after-party ♔ february

Kodo (Inside the Sun remix) - Yoshida Brothers

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || February 1st, 2014, 6:00PM [backdated]
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but t
onight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.
As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

I'm not afraid of anything.

[Excessive teenage bullshit is basically what is happening at tonight's party okay. (bluff 16)]

If that were true, you would hardly feel the need to act defensive when someone seeks to give you advice.

You aren't giving me anything. You're just making vague comments about pride and self respect. If you want to say something, just say it already.

What do you think the difference between the two is?

They call pride a sin, which just makes it more fun.

They call pride a weakness, and with good reason. It blinds one to their own faults, makes one easy to exploit and manipulate, and loathe to ever admit it when one is.

[Well... that shuts her up, because if there's anything that Faye doesn't want to be? It's weak.]

So what would you suggest? Since you're in the mood to hand out advice.

Spending time in extra lessons in the Fire wing, now that you're a full fledged member. Learning to master your abilities, instead of allowing them to master you as you grow.

Last time I tried to practice? I got shot by a lunatic.

Do you think there's no chance such a thing could happen in the field? Would you rather not be prepared for it?

Are you saying I can learn to stop bullets?

[Because yeah- she would love to learn that spell thx]

Such a thing can be done, yes. But it requires a great deal of study.

...You're not about to give me homework, are you?

Homework implies a punitive system, forced assignments. You're a grown woman here, a rising student of magic. You should be taking the initiative for yourself, not looking upon it as a potential chore.

[Again, her first thought is that the last time she had the initiative, she was shot, but... she wont bring it up again.]

You guys don't have any kind of... how to guide or anything, do you?

[Look, she doesn't want to be told what to do but she also has no clue what she's doing.]

Of course there are lists of texts for any interest. You should consult Sir Desrosiers, she maintains records of the mage's library, even though it's located in our wing.

Desrosiers. Got it. [And just because it could get her somewhere in the direction of what she is interested in, Faye is actually serious about wanting to find this person.]

Any other tips before I find something mildly entertaining?

I think one at a time is best for one such as yourself.

Whatever. [But she's not that offended. She will flounce off to enjoy the party, though.]
