The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

[ thomas gives a delighted laugh ] As you wish, my lady, you make a good point. Two good points, actually. It is a party. Do you dance?

At my Prince's request and to prevent war over imagined slight only, I'm afraid. [ she says it with a cheeky grin. ] I've had no such occasion since coming here.

[bancroft]

Why, with such weighty reasons, how can one be expected to remain light on one's feet? I think it's high time you had a dance for the hell of it. Would you do me the honor of allowing me to be such an occasion?

[trebond]

[ he reminds her of someone, though she can't quite put her finger on who, which is why the grin doesn't leave her face, but rather widens. except better because she won't have to worry about him convincing her to marry him. ]

Oh, the honor now, is it? [ she holds a hand out for him. ] How could I refuse?

[bancroft]

In a number of ways, if history tells me anything: a simple 'Shove off, Bancroft' or perhaps a drink thrown in my face. [ but he takes her arm with a grin ] Endless possibilities, really.

[trebond]

So, have you chosen to abjure romantic companionship because you wanted to be a Dragon's Claw, or is it simply happy coincidence after a series of rejections?

[bancroft]

Ah, wrong on both counts, my dear. [ and he spins her about with a 26 dance check ] I had more than any man's share of the truest type of love there is, and I'm afraid I knew no other woman would ever compare.

[trebond]

[ alanna got a nat 20 dance check what the fuck. the most ooc roll ever. but she's just going to follow his lead really well apparently instead of battling him for it and that will explain why. ]

She's gone? [ she shakes her head, sobering up. ] Rough lot. [ all the more reason to STAY SINGLE AND LET MY HAIR FLOW IN THE WIND AS I RIDE THROUGH THE GLEN. ]

Better to have loved than lost... isn't that what they say? [ yeah damn gurl they on fiyah. it helps that thomas is an exceptionally easy to follow dancer ]

Depends on who you're asking. Some would say far worse.

Some might, but if you ask me, they're profaning the memory of the one who graced them with their presence for a short, magical time.

[trebond]

And what, people are all supposed to just pledge themselves to pining after a memory? Might as well pack up the rest of their lives then, if it's so awful by comparison. I can't see how anything that makes someone think their own life on their own isn't enough anymore is supposed to be good.

[bancroft]

You're putting words in my mouth, my dear. I didn't say there was no reason to go on. I merely feel content with what I had, and have no desire to look for love elsewhere. There are plenty of other pleasures in this life, and I intend to enjoy those to the fullest. Dancing, for instance.

[trebond]

Well. [ huff. alanna is much too stubborn to be deterred from her position by distraction. ] Maybe you haven't said so, but there are plenty who would waste away just because they've lost what they never needed to begin with.

[bancroft]

[ he looks intrigued by something in there that she said. ] Never needed, eh?

[trebond]

Of course not. [ is it really that hard to imagine not needing anybody else thomas gosh. ]

[bancroft]

[ he breaks into a grin as he whirls her around ] Not everything in life is about necessity.

[trebond]

Fair enough. [ she twirls out and steps back in. ] Seems a waste to get so bent out of shape over something that isn't, though.

I was under the impression that I was perfectly well-shaped.
