It's Valentine's Day! All around people are happily snuggling up with their loved one or drowning their feelings in booze and/or ice cream. Give out cards or chocolate or commiserate with other single people! Whoo Valentine's Day!

Phineas walks in cirlces around Lis'sa's office...

[thesleeper]

[Phineas screws up the courage necessary to go forward, after several minutes of pacing around in the hallway. He's decided to call on Naberius' powers for the day, but like most days he rolled terribly on his binding check(Natural 1 - Hoorah!), so he suffers the sign and influence of Naberius - making him have Christian Bale super-gravelly batman voice, among other things.]

[After some time, he stomps forward and knocks on the door; with a large red rose in one hand, and a curious little trinket in the other. It's a fist-sized polished stone, with some strange symbols and runes carve along it's surface.]

Anybody home?

[lissatrinall]

[ as usual, lis'sa doesn't ever deign to open the door herself for anyone, so she simply says, loud enough to be heard: ] Come in.

[thesleeper]

[Squeak. Phineas slides through the doorway.]

Good afternoon, Sir Trinall... I hope you're not too terribly busy today... [He says, kind of pleadingly.]

[lissatrinall]

Did you need something, Phineas?

[thesleeper]

I.. uh.... well, this custom is a little foreign to me, but I overheard quite a few people talking about Valentine's Day, so... I made you a little something. [He produces a charm on a chain from behind his back. ...It's got runes of protection, and good fortune.

[lissatrinall]

[ lis'sa looks legitimately surprised when he pulls out the charm, almost uncomfortable for a split second before taking a closer look and seeing it's not like a giant heart or diamond or some shit. ] ... You foresee I'm going to be needing those, some time soon? [ still, she holds out a hand ]

[thesleeper]

Well... I suppose I could hope that you would never need them. However, given the nature of our work, it seems a bit inevitable.

[lissatrinall]

I usually try to make my own good fortune. But I suppose it can't hurt.

[thesleeper]

[Phineas smiles, and starts easing back towards the door...]

Right... well, anyway; I should leave you to your work. I know you're quite busy...

[He says quite pained, clearly hoping Lis'sa will stop him.]

[lissatrinall]

[ he makes it all the way to the door before she finally gives a a sigh and says: ] I'm not that busy.

[thesleeper]

Oh? You don't say... [He spins around.] In that case... what is it you prefer to do for fun, Lis'sa?

[lissatrinall]

Why do you ask?

[thesleeper]

Well I only ever see you on missions, in here, or in briefings... I'm suppose I'm just curious if there's a Lis'sa outside work, or if you're married to your research.

[lissatrinall]

Would that be some kind of problem?

[thesleeper]

They say over-obsession with your work can be unhealthy... but I'm one to talk, right? I spend most of my time buried in books.

[He winks, and leans against the wall.]

You just seem a bit overworked, is all.

[lissatrinall]

Sort of comes with being the boss. Wynn puts a lot of responsibility in our hands.

[thesleeper]

You mean to tell me you don't make any time for... distractions?

[lissatrinall]

I've been alive a long time. I've come to not need them as much, anymore.

[thesleeper]

Well... that's rather droll. If you don't have a hobby, what are you going to go back to if we ever actually win this whole crusade? [Such a simple view of the world, Phineas.]

[lissatrinall]

[ amusement pricks in her eyes as she looks up at him. ] You think some day the world won't need us anymore?

[thesleeper]

Well... The alternative is a rather depressing notion altogether... so I'd like to think so, yes.

[lissatrinall]

There's not much point to good without evil.

[thesleeper]

Well... I don't know about that. I'd argue that good for the sake of good has it's merits.

[lissatrinall]

That's not what I meant. But very high minded of you.

[thesleeper]

Well... My art definitely has fostered a strong resolve to do good. Real good, and not just... hatred under the guise of righteousness.

And, yes - [He grins,] - I do think "good" will defeat "evil" enough that we will be able to take an occasional vacation, without the world going to shit.
