It's Valentine's Day! All around people are happily snuggling up with their loved one or drowning their feelings in booze and/or ice cream. Give out cards or chocolate or commiserate with other single people! Whoo Valentine's Day!

[ emma swan's doing what she does best: spending time alone.

she doesn't really do valentine's day. she's not big on gorging herself on chocolate (unless it's poured into coffee), and even the thought of romance has left her cold for the past decade. there have been flashes in the pan that she briefly believed might become something, but all they did was reinforce what she already knew: alone was better.

so, instead of dwelling, or gorging, or making a mad dash to desperately get herself a date, or making a holiday out of her own bitterness, emma curls up in one of the living rooms of the castle with a bottle of sweet white wine and watches movies - drama, not romantic anything - from the couch. fuck romance tbh. the only thing she wishes she had when it comes to love is her family. ]

[Thoster has been humming all day. While he doesn't know much about the holiday, it's hard not to catch things on television and around the city, so he's caught on. Romance and bards are sort of a match made in heaven... except when the bard has a cracked heart. Still, he has a song to get out and he plans to do it at some point in the day. He just has to write it first.

But as he wanders aimlessly, he happens upon a certain woman that always seems to make him forget his troubles.]

Emma! [See? He's already smiling. Even if their last conversation ended a little strangely, he is always pleased to see her.] You look quite comfortable. Mind if I join you for a spell?

[uncurse]

Go for it. [ she pulls her blanket aside and draws her knees up to make room on the couch, straightening. she sets her wine glass on the coffee table, unsure if he's just dropping in or if there's something in particular he wants. ] You don't have plans today?

[bluffcheck]

Sadly, no. I thought briefly about going into town, serenading the couples as they walked by. I've made money that way plenty of times before, but... I don't know if I can put my heart into it today.

[he gives her a weak smile.] No need to dwell on that, though. I've found fairer company than most can hope to dream of.

[he means you :D]

I'm the back-up plan. [ she reads right through it (nat 20 sense motive) and can tell precisely why his heart's not in it. maybe it's because she's made of true love ok she just knows when someone is having a rough time with love as a result. she lifts the wine bottle. she's not bitter about it, just wryly amused. ] Well, if you grab a glass, there's room on the couch.

[bluffcheck]

[He'd hardly call her that. It's more that she's rescuing him from himself. But he will just go find a glass and come join her, pouring the wine to give himself a hearty serving before relaxing back beside her.]

Shall we toast?

[uncurse]

To what? I know why I'm drinking, but why are you? [ toasting is a matter of shared sentiment, after all. she'll grab her glass off the coffee table all the same and swap it for the wine bottle, setting the latter aside. ]

[bluffcheck]

[He thinks about it for a long time, face twisted in deep thought.]

To friendship. [He settles on finally.] And not dwelling on the heaviness of the heart.

[uncurse]

You've got it. [ she raises her glass, lightly touching the bowl to his with a soft chime before taking a long drink. her eyebrows raise as she brings the glass away from her mouth, ready to start her sentence before she swallows. ] I've got to admit, I'm ... relieved that's all you're here looking for. Not really the standard fare for the broken hearted on Valentine's Day.

[Pan's picked up on the fact that today's some sort of holiday-- one of celebrating romance and love and all of that stuff that he could happily live without. Seriously. He doesn't even want to kiss anybody, let alone declare his love for them through... cards and flowers and diamonds and whatever else he's seen advertised.

So, rather than find someone to share this day with, he's wandering around the castle, looking for... mischief or something. And that's when he comes across the Savior, sitting alone in one of the living rooms.

Well. This could be fun.]

[ in all of emma's scouring the ballroom trying to learn what she can about peter pan, it's him who winds up approaching her first - MUCH LATER ON BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE SQUIRING PARTY POST DID YOU KNOW. it strikes her as particularly odd, considering she'd never made it clear to him - unless he'd heard between now and then. she could imagine brantley being a dick like that tbf. all the same, it's an uncomfortable feeling, but it doesn't budge emma from the couch. she merely works her jaw, sizing the kid up before responding with a cagey; ] Wasn't aware we'd had the pleasure. [ because that's the other thing that gets her - he knows her name. how the hell does he know her name? ... ok well other than hook probably gushing about her. and the aforementioned possibility of brantley. emma approaches everything with a healthy sense of skepticism, which leads her to expect the worst and keeps her from ever assuming happy coincidence. ]

I'M TOO FAST. Except when I fall behind :V

Haven't we? [Pan tilts his head curiously. So, she doesn't know who he is? Somehow, their... timelines must be different, if their paths hadn't crossed yet. How convenient. He puts a hand to his chest and smiles.] I'm a friend of Henry's.

... Henry? [ there's a lilt of saddened hope and promise in her voice. she doesn't know him, she's never had the chance. or at least, she doesn't remember getting that chance. but what if he's here? what if pan knows him because he came through the veil too, and it's not too late? what if she could still meet her son? ] I - I'm sorry, I don't ... remember. Is he ... Is he here?

No. [He rolls his shoulders back in a shrug.] At least, I haven't seen him.

Then, why is it I don't remember you from Storybrooke? [ she leans forward, elbows propped on her knees (sense motive 30 DON'T YOU LIE TO ME ABOUT THIS ONE BOY). that's, to her understanding, where she'd met henry. and while she's happy to hear the kid's made friends, she had been pretty sure she hadn't lost anything else in the crossover. ]

Do you know everyone in Storybrooke? [He's not... lying, exactly. Just dodging the truth. Which isn't really going to work out for him.]

Well, I am the Sheriff. [ she arches her eyebrows, then relents, admitting. ] No. I guess I don't. But, my kid's friends would definitely fit the long list of people I do. [ bluff 26 bc she technically ... cannot say whether she'd know her son's friends or not since she doesn't know him at all! but she has been stalking after lila's boyfriend so tbf it's a pretty safe bet. but he's being dodgy, and she doesn't like dodgy, so she's just not going to point out that she can't remember her own son ... ]

[ a voice pipes up from behind her, hailing the entrance of fred jr. who comes around the couch taking a swig of beer. ] Anything good on?

About 600 channels of Hallmark. [ she's reserving judgment on that. some of it's not bad ok but it's not for everybody. ]

Who thought it was a good idea to make movies based on greeting cards, that what I wanna know. [ he's just gonna ... flop in a chair. over here. ]
