What was supposed to be a night to unwind wound up with a confrontation between Failboat and Keijen Blade that didn't exactly go the way the team was hoping for. However, in the process, they at least managed to get Isabella back and extract Dumage from her long term undercover assignment.

The remainder of the night is spent back at the hotel, recuperating, in order to catch the flight back to London the next morning. This also means saying goodbye to those who will be going back to Chicago: Isabella, Burt, and Rafael.

If you ask him, he did it out of the goodness of his heart. Not wanting his kneecaps blown off probably helped, though. [He smirks.] I told you not to expect a miracle, Blondie, but I managed something.

I never should have doubted you. [ a grin works its way onto her face and she reaches over to squeeze his hand. that grin drops into something more warm and genuine. her elbow leans on the armrest between them. ] Thank you.

[Des's smirk doesn't fade, but he ducks his head and stares at the window.] You and Rafael have come too far for it to end like that. Both of you deserve a decent shot.

Who knew you were such a romantic.

[He barks a laugh.] I think it's rubbing off on me. Between Fluffy and... [He trails off.] Mostly Fluffy. The bastard's too Italian for his own good.

He's a dangerous guy to have around. Next thing you know we'll all be singing ballads and throwing roses around.

Yeah, well if I start singing "That's Amore" at anyone, put me down and hope I get over it after I wake up.

I think cats in heat have better harmony than me. [He rolls his eyes.] And my taste in music is fine.

If by fine you mean terrible. [ just sayin. she pulls a book out of her bag, settling into the seat. ] It's a long way home. Hope you brought sudoku.

Your home. I'm gearing up for another long trip away from mine.

[He was getting really used to his own bed too... That whole two days.]

What's that saying? "Home isn't a place, it's people"?

[ though by that warrant, she supposes she's taking a long trip away from hers, too. ]

[He's quiet for a moment.]

You know this ain't forever, right, Blondie? You think leaving Rafael is hard- that pointy little SOB won't be nearly as much of a ghost as I'll be.

[It's a small movement forward. He's not pushing them away to avoid the inevitable, just pointing out that it is inevitable.]

[slay]

I know you keep saying that, but ... [ she looks up at him and shakes her head. ] I don't believe you.

[Des can only hold her gaze for a second before he turns away.] This don't end with me doing freelance for Wynn and doing these missions for years- for you and then for your kids, and then for their kids. I mean, that's what you're expecting, right?

[slay]

I don't think fat grandchildren are in my future, Des. [ she laughs at that, but it's a bitter thing that sounds like something breaking. ] But, I know you're gonna be there 'til I'm not.

[nothingsodivine]

[Des can't hide the overwhelming look of despair that crosses his face.]

And if you were me, you'd know why I wouldn't wanna stick around to see that happen.

I don't have to be you to know that. But, I also know that it's better to stick around than to sit around in a hundred or two hundred years and realize you missed out on time that you could have been there and weren't.

It has to end sometime. [He stares at his open palm, studying it like he's expecting to be able to read it or count his age lines or something.] The Lazarus Talisman might be the key to ending it or it might just be another bad idea. And if it's the latter, then I have to keep looking.

[He closes his hand.] I don't want to live forever.

[slay]

If all you're doing with your life is searching for the next Talisman, no wonder you don't want to. Des, that's not living. That's surviving. You have to stop for a minute and look around, smell the flowers.

[quietly] It's been four thousand years, Buffy. And I'm so close. I know I am... And that means I have to carry this as far as it takes.

[He finally looks back at her, expression pleading.] You understand that, right? Curses get broken eventually. And it ain't as easy as the fairy tales'll make it seem.

[slay]

Guess we'll see which one of us lasts longer, in the end. [ she shrugs. what else is she supposed to say? the chances that both of them leave this mission alive are getting slimmer and slimmer - seeing keijen fight, the goddess, the spider-war prophecy. ]

It better be you.

[He leans back in his seat, reflexively clenching and unclenching his hand.] I don't think I could bear it, and Rafael would kill me.
