The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ lila, looking absolutely amazeballs, is in deceptively cheerful mood. she's still riding the "my boyfriend is momentarily geographically desirable" train of good vibes. she's still on her phone half the time, but she gives off an actually approachable air for once, smile on her face natural and bright. even her scar can't do much to make her look in any way intimidating at the moment. ]

That dress is lovely on you. [Helen isn't quite so dressed to impress. She may have been caught up in her work, researching and studying something under a microscope. Whoops. But she's here and still rocks the more casual clothes like a bad ass (disguise 24).]

Thanks. [ she says thanks and yet it sounds just like "oh, i know". modesty is not her strong suit, okay. but she smiles and smooths her gloved hands down the front of the dress, absently adjusting the little belt. ]

[Scanning the girl's face, Helen tries to place her. She knows they've never spoken before, but she has seen her around the castle. It takes a bit of digging in her memory, but she can recall a few bits and pieces (int 16).]

You're Eric's squire, aren't you? Lucy?

[ SHE IS DISTINCTLY HUFFY for a second, like a cat puffing out, but instead of snapping, she just nods. that is the depth of her good mood. ]

Lila, actually. Lila Zacharov.

[Helen picks up on the huffiness and the reason behind it (wis 15). Her expression immediately shifts to one that's more apologetic.]

Lila. Of course. Forgive me, it's been along day. My name is Helen Magnus, but you have full permission to call me Helena at least once. How's that?

Seems fair. [ her phone chirps and she glances down at it briefly, smile widening before she turns her attention back to helen. ] Although Helena and Helen are a lot closer than Lila and Lucy. Maybe... Hermia instead.

I have had my fair share of romantic trials and complications. Perhaps Hermia would be more fitting. [Her eyebrows raise slightly as she watches the girl smile in response to her phone.] I'm not keeping you, am I?

Huh? Oh, no. This is my knightly intermission between afternoon and night boyfriend time and it's not done yet.

[Ah young love. She's endeared by it.]

How are you finding it? Striking the balance between work and your personal life, I mean.

It's easy, he lives in Chicago so he doesn't get in the way. [ ah young love. ] And then when he visits, work... only sometimes gets in the way.

[Times have changed quite a bit since Helen was Lila's age. A few centuries actually. But she's a modern woman now, and she can appreciate how Lila seems to be making a long distance relationship works, despite all odds.]

Keeping your priorities in that order can be difficult, I've found. [Or maybe that's just her.]

I'm not going to make him leave his job and he's not going to make me leave mine, so. We make it work. [ though, to be fair, she does ask him to move to london all the time. ] Just takes effort. And unlimited texting. And, like, so many frequent flyer miles.

Perhaps if I'd had those things at my disposal all those years ago, I might have found it a bit easier. [Wow, sound older Helen.]

They didn't have airplanes where you were my age? [ she's willing to play the kid when it comes to stuff like this, ever so curious. ]

I'm afraid not. [Her expression is a tad mischievous. She remembers enough of her time before the Veil to know that her lifetime isn't normal at all. And she has no secrets here in the Knighthood. But that doesn't mean she can't have fun with it.] Just between us girls? I'm a bit older than I look.

A bit? Kitty Hawk was in 1903. [ knowledge: random useless history 18 ]

Yes and it was quite the sight. [Helen Magnus is all up in your historical events.]

That makes you over 110 years old. [ she makes a pointed show of glancing at helen's ears. no elf-y. ]

It would. [She will go ahead and tuck her hair behind her ear just to solidify that for the girl.] I'm human, though. It's usually everyone's first instinct- and for good reason.

Because humans don't live to be plus a hundred and still looking... forty. [ she says this with a stern confidence.

Most don't. I'm a bit of a rare circumstance.

[ her arms cross over her chest, leaning back some as if waiting for helen to elaborate. her phone chirps, but she ignores it. ]

The long and the short of it is that I was born in 1850 but my genetic make up was altered to extend my life indefinitely. Sort of an ongoing experiment.
