The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

You're forgetting who you're talking to. If there's one jackass in the known universe who can honestly say he has a unicorn for a downstairs neighbor, it'd be me.

It's been some time since I've dealt with a unicorn. I'll take your word on it.

Faith has already taken leave of the castle for the night, I believe. But her mother should be here somewhere. She's difficult to miss.

Even if he did stonewall me, it's me. I get what I want.

[There's no "usually" or "generally." You get to be as old as Des, you do get what you want, eventually. It's kind of a side effect of not being able to die.]

I'll find her. [He doesn't ask for a description, BECAUSE HE IS A BIT BUSY STARING AT WYNN LIKE HE KILLED HIS DOG.] So are you gonna talk about it at all?

I'm not certain I know to what, specifically, you are referring.

[He's mad, but he's not rude enough to accuse Wynn of conspiracy in the middle of his own ballroom.] We can take this elsewhere, if you want.

I see no reason to leave, unless you'd prefer to.

[ he looks unruffled but no surprise there. ] I'm aware of the... situation Sir Sandazhard found himself in that evening. And the choice he made, as well as his reasons for it, yes.

Which I know. What I need to know is why nothing was done about it. Why did you let him go through with it. Why not tell me, Wynn. I was a loose cannon. It wouldn't have come back on your boy.

[wynn]

[ he tilts his head, considering des for a long moment. ] Desmond, I had no indication of how far these people meant to involve any of Sir Sandazhard's personal matters in this mission. He himself wasn't given the order to open that door until that evening had arrived.

Do you really think he paused to ask for my advice on the subject?

That's why you're here. That's what separates people like him from people like me, so yeah. I kinda thought he might.

He had very little time to come to a decision. I can't imagine how agonizing it must have been for him, and I certainly don't claim that he made the right one. But what I do here is to place my faith in those who serve our cause, faith to make those decisions, and when they make the wrong ones, faith that they'll set about righting what has befallen as a result. I don't spend every moment over their shoulders, nor do I tell them how I feel they should resolve the situations I point them at.

The freedom they're afforded here is important, Desmond, and I think it's something you understand.

They have to have the freedom to make mistakes, otherwise an army of robots could do what they do for me, perhaps with greater efficiency, even.

I believe in Sir Sandazhard's guilt, his repentance for the choice he made that night, and his firm resolve to do everything in his power to stop these men, and never let them take advantage of him - or anyone else - again. That doesn't in any way alleviate the part he played in events, nor does it bring back the woman who died as a result. I'm perfectly aware of this - but so is he.

[TONGUE. IN. CHEEK.] Yeah. Guess I do.

[Everything about this leaves him feeling uncomfortable and exposed. He wasn't looking for some big conspiracy. He didn't think he'd actually find something here that could give him someone else to blame.

But he wanted to. He wanted to hear how he could have helped her, had something not been in his way.]

I just needed to hear there was nothing I could've done.

[wynn]

If there had been, Desmond, I'm confident you would have done it.

Yeah. You'd think.

[He's not that convinced though.] I need to find Anastacia.

[ he nods ] If I see Sir O'Keefe, I'll send her in your direction.
