[She shrugs, looking a little blasé. He doesn't look like he believes her. She didn't totally expect him to. But it is what it is.]

My dad's extended family. Dunno about outside of us. There aren't, like, Aasimar conventions. Like I know there are others, from Shadow World, but I couldn't, like, give you an exact count.

[She still looks not crazy to him, and given her casual reaction had him thinking that maybe it was possible.

Either she was truly deluded, or she was telling the truth. He was just gonna have to do something he never thought he would, but was beginning to realize that with these people sometimes his usual approach wouldn't do him any good. He was just going to have to trust her word.]

"So, how does that work exactly?" [Instead of sounding incredulous still, he actually sounds placated and interested in what she has to say. He may never have been a student by conventional means, but he sure as hell likes to learn new things.]

"I've never heard of it before, and so far as I know there's only one God and he doesn't normally give many fucks what people do, much less co-mingle with them enough to have a kid more than once.

And that didn't turn out all that good for the kid, in the end."

Gods aren't like that in Shadow World. I mean, I don't think they are. Like, you gotta understand, I am so not an expert. But uh, clearly, from the whole me and my family existing they can... [She grimaces and makes a circle with her left hand, poking her right hand finger back and forth through it.] And I think there's way more than one.

[He raises an eyebrow at her finger demonstration, a rumbling chuckle following. The thought of more than one god was, to him, not a good thing. He sure as hell wasn't religious by any means, and his hatred of the only God he's ever heard about sure wasn't going to endear him to even more.

He decided to try and reserve judgement until he learned more about them.]

So, these Shadow World gods, do they interact with humans a lot?

[It's not that Andie minds his questions, exactly. But she isn't from Shadow World. She doesn't know. And there's the other reason she doesn't like talking about what she is. She really doesn't know.]

Hmmm. [He makes a non-committal sound, rolling his shoulders. In his opinion the chances of him talking to any sort of deity or someone who had been with one were pretty much zilch.

He decided a change in subject would be good.]

What brought you to the Knights?

[...unfortunately, that isn't a change in subject. Everything comes down to family legacy in Andie's life.]

Uh. My dad. And my mom. They used to be knights.

[He thinks he hears something in her voice that cautions him from going down that path as well. He has NO social skills whatsoever, so this instinct to placate her, to bring her back to the happy state she had been in before is foreign and strange to him, but he decides to follow his gut on it.

Appeasing others to make them comfortable was still so new to him. What even was happening to his bad-ass-mother-fucker-ness? He hadn't cared about this kind of thing before, so why now? Best he could figure was now that he was working with a constant team of people he'd have to actually try to at least keep things...civil. Or something like that. Deeper meaning behind feelings mean nothing to Riddick, or so he likes to tell himself.]

Didn't you say that you could run faster than sound?

[She is SO much more in favor of this line of questioning. And the nice thing about speedsters? Ultra fast mood reset.]

Yeah! Maybe someday even faster than light! [Okay, it doesn't seem likely. But it would be so cool.]

[His eyebrows raise, slightly impressed. Apparently he had hit the right button as her mood was once again happy.]

I'd like to see that.

Me too. I'd go so fast you wouldn't even be able to see me move.

[His eyebrows raise as he gives a little shrug, nodding slightly in agreement.] Fair enough.

[He grins.] I've just got way more.

[That actually gets a short laugh out of him, a smile creeping up his face.]

Wow, that was supposed to be a she last tag, wtf are pronouns.

[Andie's grin widens at the laugh. All the initial apprehension she'd had about Riddick's former convict/murderer whatever status is entirely gone because he is clearly just a nice guy who puts on a gruff persona but really isn't that bad when you get to know him.]

How about you? Got any cool powers or whatever?

[Riddick's brow raises again at her inquiry. What was he, a show-pony? Though to be fair, he had been asking her all the questions. He normally gave no fucks about being fair but...internal sigh maybe it was time to start?

He reaches up to pull the shade of the window down next to him, cloaking the back seats they were occupying in darkness. Slowly he pulls his goggles off, his eyes closed against the light. When he opens them Andie would see the lights from further up in the plane catch and reflect within his eyes, causing them to shine like an animals eyes at night. They are a strange, muted silvery color upon closer inspection, which he allows by holding her gaze for a few long moments.]

Or whatever, in my case [he says in answer to her question.]

Cooooool. [She pushes her way a little closer, getting in his face for a better look.] Do you have like, special vision?

I can see in complete darkness better than in the light. I think it's pretty special. [He says the last in a wry voice, a smirk once again tugging on his lips.]

It's totally special. [She bounces excitedly in her seat.] So can you like, see just as well as other people in the light and really well in the dark? Or is it like normal people looking in the light when it's dark and when it's light it's just hard to see?

[He watches her bouncing in her seat like a kid, his eyes amused.] I can see really well in the dark. As for the light...

I can still see things in the light, but it's a helluva lot different now than it was before. Everything that has even a bit of reflective surfacing is amplified by ten times the normal reflection. Even things that don't normally have reflective surfaces that the normal eye can see, I can. It makes it a bitch to try and see during the day without my goggles on because the light is painful.

And I don't have the normal color spectrum that others do anymore, either. I see in shades of colors, either heightened with contrast or dimmed, depending.

Oh so it's a new thing for you? [She watches him curiously.] How'd it happen?

It's been a few years since I've had it done. I had some Doctor in the same Slam as me do a surgical shine-job on my eyes. No anesthetic either.

Slam...? [Andie isn't really familiar with prison slang words, so that sort of confuses her. Then she winces in sympathy.] Eugh, ouch. Why'd you do it?
