Know what's even worse than Kansas? Kansas after a long winter that just won't die. Everything is creepy and flat and the grass is struggle-bussing its way back to life, and the trees are still skeletal, which just lends an eerie semblance to everything as they drive by. Drive by with a U-Haul attached to the back of her their rented vehicle, because they're bringing a fucking bear along. Luckily Gus was able to coax her into this arrangement, but man, I would not to be the one to draw the short straw opening the doors to that trailer when they arrive.

It only took a single stop at a crappy diner for Zatanna to get someone to spill the whereabouts of the survivor of the night they're looking into: she's being kept at a hospital in the nearest actual city. Zee drops off Adam, Dimitri, and Gus near the crime scene, and takes Dawn with her to go see what they can learn from the girl (after telling Gus to behave).

[ wow dimitri this is about to be some straight up disappointing shit, ok. dimitri brings down his stake in a perfect line for the thing's head...

except oh shit its head is over there. #displacement

it whirls on dimitri, tentacles flailing and jaws snapping, but it's still shaken so it can't land a blow (atks 11, 21, 18). the living room displacer beast doesn't like this fucking lightning frying it, so it goes for gus, one tentacle raking across his arm, and the next hitting him full in the face (atk 24, nat 20, dmg 23). it turns its head to try to bite him, but whips it around too fast and slams his face into gus' quarterstaff (crit fail... the beast takes 3 dmg, a+).

meanwhile, the pack leader seems to realize grudgingly that it's not getting a constantine snack right now and turns to stalk after mellie instead, one tentacle whipping out to rake across her back viciously as she snarls (atk 23, dmg 13).

i keep forgetting zatanna a+ go me. (concentration 28) she takes another step aside and yells: ] Llaberif! [ a glowing pea sized bead streaks from her fingers and detonates with a low roar, blossoming into fire as it strikes the beast. it fails its reflex save, and that's enough for it to let out a final yowl as it burns up to a crisp on the living room floor ]

[ mellie just got this coat washed, you whore. she retaliates with a terrific full attack and a tremendous roar that probably shakes the floor boards in this farmhouse, both huge front paws sweeping out to bat at the helpfully sparkly glowbug wanna be, while her teeth snap out at the beast's throat like she's gonna rip it out. (claw atk 22, dmg 13; bite atk 17, dmg 7)

with a grunt of pain, gus ignores the blood, you know, cascading down his face (fort save 24) and heads for the kitchen to pull his last streak of lightning down on the beast trying to maul mellie. (concentration 22, atk 20 total, dmg 15) ]

[ Well okay then, that's one of these bastards down. And hopefully, it wasn't one that had previously been human. Cause that would be bad. Dawn's going to move to the kitchen as well, winding her way around the dead fried beastie and dead humans and whatnot, fun fun. ]

[Thanks for taking one for the team, Dimitri. :') Adam appreciates you acting as a distraction for Mittens' fury. But then Mellie turns around to swipe at Mittens' mom, and Adam is like fuuuck because there goes his back up.

Mitten's is getting another mental lashing courtesy of ego whip as Adam attempts to daze a bitch (1 charisma damage whether Mittens makes the save or not, but will 16+ prevents it from being dazed for one round).]

[ still got a 21 will save, so not dazed, but it does take the charisma damage!

constantine takes a few steps down the stairs, and raises one hand, focusing on the giant pack leader and chanting, chanting, chanting something, but... it ends with some colorful swear words so I don't think whatever it was... was effective. :| ]

[Dimitri will just continue his attempted assault, turning toward where the creature apparently teleported, his stake slashing out at the creature's face (atk 26, dmg 10)]

[ NOPE STILL WRONG DIMITRI wow this guy is an asshole, someone should cover it in glitter too, get on that constantine. it's getting kind of pissy at adam and his whip tbh, so here comes the pain as it lashes past dimitri with two tentacles towards adam (atk 26, dmg 7; atk 21, dmg 13), and then turns to bite at the dhampir with a nat 20 omfg. (16 dmg > dimitri). rude.

the pack leader turns around now that it's fucking surrounded. one tentacle goes for dawn (atk 22, dmg 13), and one for gus (atk 31; dmg 15). then it turns to bite at constantine coming down the steps (atk 23; dmg 12). he is not fucking around.

zatanna runs into the room behind them, eyes widening at the sight of everyone getting fucked up by these monsters. shit damn. she'll have to do her magic next round. ]

[ again, ow. gus swings his quarterstaff like some fucking baton twirling champion, whaling on the pack leader like fuck you a lot. (two weapon attack 21 & 17; dmg 4 & 13)

mellie is getting peeved and she lashes out with her paws again (atk 20 total, dmg 6) but her bite misses. like a lot. (atk 4) idk glowbugs must taste gross. she doesn't love y'all enough to do that again. that is vile. she is biting no more butts. ]

[ The blow from the tentacle staggers Dawn. Well, there goes most of her hp. There's blood on her forehead, her cheek, blooming bright red from her shoulder through her shirt. She really can't take another hit like that.

She drops her gun, stumbles back away from the fray. Sorry, folks. ]

[Meanwhile the double bitch-smack that Mittens just delivered fucks Adam up pretty good, too. He backs up away from said tentacles real quick now that he's all ripped up and bloody, but he doesn't get very far since there's a wall/counter-top and a dead dude like right the fuck there.

Luckily he doesn't have a weapon to drop, because he's moved past trying to daze this fucker and focuses on assaulting its mind directly ([mind thrust] concentration 21, damage 10 unless Mittens' will save is sky fucking high again [dc 15] then that damage is 0 jfc).]

[ sob, its will save was exactly 15, even with the -2, it's rolling like a motherfuck.

constantine doesn't look particularly thrilled about what he's about to do, but y'all are getting fucked up over there in the kitchen, so... he steps back up the steps so that he's not right on top of the pack leader, and tosses out another handful of that glitter shit, which goes flying through the air in a stream, exploding golden particles in a ten foot radius in the kitchen. ] Mind your eyes! [ luckily, he can fucking aim, and it explodes on the side where they're not all standing. the displacer beast FAILS A SAVE FINALLY, and the dust settles in its eyes, blinding it. WHO HAS A 50% MISS CHANCE NOW, BITCHES. the tables have turned. its defense has dropped to a 12 as well. :') ]

[Shiny golden glitter to save the day hooray!

Dimitri's eyes narrow at the dust explosion, but at least stranger on the stairs didn't shower them in evil blinding gold-dust. Time for some payback, because fucking ow nat 20 tentacles no thank you.

He continues his physical assault because this shit has to hit sometime, right? He'll aim for the body this time because clearly going for the head shot just makes him keep missing (atk 15, dmg 17 penetration dmg ftw)]

[ this time, dimitri's stake strikes true, penetrating the side of the beast's glitter-stained coat. it retaliates by blindly lashing its tentacles out at him, atk 17, 14, both of which don't even come close to hitting the mark. neither do its teeth as it gnashes at the air (bite 7).

the pack leader turns on zatanna now, but wheels around too quickly and fucking slips on some of that goddamn glitter that's everywhere, crashing into the floor and losing its turn. aw yis. ]

[ zatanna shouts out another backwards incantation (spellcraft 44), and paralyses the fallen creature, although its nat 20 will save means the effect will only last for 2 rounds.

that taken care of, she does a fucking double take up the steps. ]

[ mellie is back with her snapping jaws (bite atk 16, dmg 7; claw atk 14, dmg 10) om nom nom, tastes like sparkles. yummy.

with another wicked swing, gus is the opposite of pulling his punches. (atk 25, dmg 14) fuck this noise basically. the faster they murder these bitches, the faster he can heal dawn and adam because those kids do not look good. (also dimitri, but that guy just looks like he could go ten rounds with mellie and it would be a blast, so gus is more worried about dawn and adam.) ]

Is now really the time, Sparky?

[ Yes, please, healing would be ever so good.

There's not much that Dawn can do at the moment. She could try to get her gun, but bending down would probably lead to her falling over and that would be bad. And she doesn't have awesome mind powers like Adam, so she can't attack the beast any other way.

So she'll just stand over here, keeping the blood out of her eyes. ] I'm gonna be totally obvious and say you two know each other. But maybe we do the reuniony stuff after everything trying to kill us is dead?

[Adam takes the opportunity to wipe some of the blood from is face, which is probably blinding him a lot more than the fucking fairy dust this dude's throwing around right now. It don't even matter though, because whatever he wipes away is replaced just as quickly. Alas, the severity of his wounds hit him all of the sudden and he crit fails his concentration check to gain psionic focus.]

Seriously, kill tentacle rape cats now and catch up later please. [He doesn't want to end up like Farmer John over here.]

[ once it's clear that zee's spell had immobilized the big kitty, Constantine takes the steps back down to her side, looking over the limp monster. ] Your friends have a point, love. [ he sounds morbidly amused, as he flicks his fingers together. ] Igniculus. [ electricity crackles between his fingertips, and he grabs the beast by the scruff of the neck, shocking it (10 dmg). His lips curve up in a grimace that turns into a cheekier grin as he glances over at zatanna, an intimate familiarity in his grimly set gaze. ] We've got to stop meeting like this.

[No really, now is not the time.

Dimitri is just going to be all business, though, because the sooner they dispatch this creature the sooner it will stop attacking them. After evading his attacks, Dimitri pushes forward, hoping to keep his advantage by stabbing into the creature's neck (atk 20 total, dmg 10)]

[ dimitri's stake punctures the skin, and blood spurts everywhere. the creature staggers, blind and bloodied, and wildly flails tentacles once more, but they slice through the air since it can't see where y'all even are. its teeth snap and spittle flies as it snarls.

the pack leader is... still paralyzed so there's that. ]

[ zatanna snaps her jaw shut as she half-glares at constantine, obviously rattled by his appearance, either from surprise or something else. ] Move. [ she gives him a moment of caution to step back before she raises her hand and says: ] Nosirp fo eci! [ (spellcraft 43) ice starts to form swiftly around the paralyzed beast before he can move again, freezing in a large block around him, until he's all but trapped by it all. she looks up at the others, glancing back at constantine out of the corner of her eye ] We have to make sure it's not the kid.

[ gus doesn't have dispel magic, so... he's sort of at a loss as to how to make sure (or fix it once they are sure). unless adam can. he swipes the blood off his face and twists his hand, a ball of flames appearing in his palm that he hurls at the blood blind beast. (produce flame ranged atk 20 total, dmg 10) another ball of flames blossoms in his hand once the first is thrown. ]

Adam, can you see if there is a kid in there? [ you know, telepathically. ]

[ nooooooooooooo blind glowbug... got incinerated 8( r.i.p.

since scruffy mcpack leader is in an ice coma, we can end init and go back to freeform. call for dibs in the init plurk! ]

[With Mittens dead and Mittens Sr. in an ice prison, Adam's able to relax a little--as much as anyone bleeding from the head is able to, anyway.]

I can try, but these things have pretty good about resisting my powers.

[And after taking a second to get psionically focused (concentration 21), he immediately expends that focus while he attempts to read the pack leader's thoughts (concentration 24). Which bumps the will save up to 17 if this bitch is going to resist. The range for this power is sixty feet, so Adam ain't moving any closer either. Fuck barbed tentacles tbh.]

constantine turns to look between them incredulously, tho. ] You mean to tell me you think this ruddy tom's your junior would-be summoner? [ he swings his gaze towards zatanna, amused disappointment in the tilt of his head ] Zee. You should know better than that. That spell was full-on conjuration, not a whiff of transmutation about it, was there?
