Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Emma's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Fire members and Gold, Wynn, and Hasmed wait up at the front of the room for Emma to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides from the other sect members.

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Emma Swan."

[ ain't no after-party like a mage's after-party because a magic after-party has a giant heroes' feast, colorful lights floating around the ceiling, and beautiful magical illusions everywhere to deck the place out. awww yeah. ]

[Hook's got a glass of rum in his hand (no one's surprised) and a smile on his face. He's not all that interested in socializing with all the dragon's fire people, so he keeps to himself, hanging out near the food table and skewering food on his hook. Hopefully he cleaned it first. That's still pretty gross. He wants to congratulate Emma, but he's willing to wait til the throngs from her new section have finished. He'd rather the moment be at least slightly more private.]

[ she doesn't seek him out immediately, but she does make her way over before too long—that's how she catches him skewering food with his hook. ]

Seriously? [ she grabs a napkin, pulling a chimichanga free from his hook and folding it into the napkin. ] In what world is that sanitary?

The world where I need my good hand free. [He wiggles his fingers at her.] Congratulations, love. You'll be a wonderful knight.

[uncurse]

You're changing the subject so I won't point out that it's a good sign to cool it on the rum if you can't slow down to use your hand for anything else.

[ she smears grease off her hands onto a second napkin, mostly in an attempt to divert her attention from his congratulations. ]

That your way of hinting I should offer you a celebratory drink? [He dangles his flask in front of her even though there's no way this is the one party without a booze table.]

If I wanted a drink, I would get my own—from a glass. [ she rolls her eyes at him. ] But thank you.

That's not as fun. [He pulls out the cork with his teeth anyway and spits it out. Who knows if he'll ever recover it.] Still, you're worth drinking to, Swan, even if I'm doing it alone. [He raises the flask, then takes a swig.]

You really know how to charm a girl.

[ is this is supposed to be charming ... emma just blinks at him and turns to make her way to the bar because yeah on second thought she will need several glasses of that champagne for his manners. ]

[Hey, look at the proud knight. He doesn't even look ungodly smug about being right about which sect Emma would choose. Honestly, he looks like he's only here because he's expected to be. In fact, he's a bit distracted, as he idly sips his wine and politely schmoozes, all while glancing at the door.]

[ eyes like a hawk (spot 16), lila somehow winds up next to gold. curiosity gets the best of her. ] Who are you waiting for?

[undealt]

Not waiting, per say. [He's surprisingly stoic for someone who got caught trying to escape his own squire's knighting party.] Just considering when might be the right time to slip away.

[bittersweeter]

You're really escaping her party? Classy. [ feel the judgement, son. feel it. ]

You know her as well as anyone can, Ms. Zacharov. Do you honestly think she wants to see me any more than she has to?

[bittersweeter]

[ snort. ] No. Isn't that all the more reason to stay? [ look at who you're talking to, the most spiteful human being ever. ]

Unfortunately, there's nothing to be gained from sheer spite. [And she already accepted the Dragon's Fire into her heart. He got what he wanted, so rubbing it in her face is unnecessary... right now.] And I'd hate to spoil the mood. It's a very special day for Ms. Swan.

[bittersweeter]

[ ukw milah isn't there so it's not like lila gives a fuck if he stays around so she just waves a hand dismissively. ] Super special.

[ emma gets between him in the door, smiling with some trepidation. ]

Look, I know things ended up pretty ... tense back in Scotland. I'm not gonna drag this out, I just—I wanted to thank you, for not letting that get in the way of evaluating how ready I was for this.

you're a sorcerer now. sorcerers are never late.

[Gold stares at her for a second, wondering if there's a catch. One he's concluded she's probably genuine and he should ACCEPT THE GRATITUDE, he deflates a bit.]

You proved yourself more capable than me there at the end. [he's blaming stress on that fuck-up.] I was burdened by how the entire thing had been pointless from the start, and lost my head a bit. But you, Ms. Swan? You were capable of maintaining as much control over the situation as you could. And that is one of the best qualities a knight can have. Any squire can be honorable, dedicated, or courageous. But a knight knows how to handle any given situation without faltering.

[ even without full memories, he's still emma swan's number one fan. ]

[ oh man compliments this is so uncomfortable. the stony edge comes off emma's expression and she's left looking more or less like a little girl, dwarfed in the presence of an authority figure. she swallows her surprise and soldiers on. ]

It wasn't pointless. That druid had been kidnapping and enslaving people; we stopped him. Just because we didn't save Amara doesn't mean we didn't do exactly what we're here to be doing. [ as much as it had felt like a waste of time in the moment, time has offered her perspective. they did the right thing, even if it wasn't right for their particular goal. ]

The fact that you can see that, as well, means I made the right choice. [Even if he's still bitter. He's a goal-oriented bastard.]

Why did you end up choosing the Dragon's Fire? [THERE'S A QUESTION. He's not even trying to be a dick. He's curious.]

Well, I thought about joining the Dragon's Tongue, but diplomacy doesn't afford as many chances to kick doors in. [ he gets a wry smile for that. after a beat, she drops the sarcasm and gives him a more honest answer. simple, but honest: ] Faye. Running from my magic isn't going to help her embrace that hers can be used for good.

[Oh. Faye. Of course. Bless that girl. He looks down, thoughtfully.] She has had a certain lack of a decent role models in her life.

[And he's probably not the best one in Emma's book, but SHH.]

I feel like the Veil did some of us a favor.

[ not her, but faye? gold? hook? whatever had made them the way they were is gone, or at least forgotten. they're probably better off without those memories, even as hesitant as emma is to accept the change in two of the three. ]
