Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Hook's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Hide members - the largest sect in the castle, with the most representatives here, and Dovan, Wynn, and Thoster wait up at the front of the room for David to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides.

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Killian Jones."

If I'd wanted to, I wouldn't need an invitation.

[ she offers him a tight-lipped smirk in reply. anyway, more to the point, she glances around. ]

Did I see Gold here?

[unhand]

[Yeah, it's no secret she's got an open invitation to bang a pirate if ever she desires. But his smirk dims at her question. He shrugs.]

I think Belle dragged him along.

[JUST QUIETLY DANCING AROUND THE PART WHERE HE INVITED HIM.]

Huh.

[ with her sense motive of 30 she's got the feeling there's something to that story that hook's not telling her, but after a brief, brow-furrowed look of confusion, she simply shrugs it off. ]

Well, good for them.

[unhand]

It's not a big deal. [His shoulders hunch.] It's not like the bastard doesn't lurk around us enough as it is.

I just mean—They've been dancing around each other since Scotland. It's good to see they're figuring it out. [ she's not worried about his presence if hook's not; but him being belle's date is cute. ]

[Wow does Hook ever not care about Gold's love life.]

Isn't he twice her age or something?

[He's mostly only judging because invitation or no, he still kind of hates Gold.]

You really want to get pedantic about two consenting adults? Because there are 28 years of curse-time that I'm fairly certain make you eligible for AARP.

..."Arp?" [Hook does not understand the reference, but he waves it away.] So long as they don't make too big a show of it. [If anyone's gonna be making a show of it at his knighting party, it's gonna be him.]

Is that bitterness because it's Gold, or just garden variety jealousy?

[ she's actually curious. humor her. ]

[He glances over at her and raises an eyebrow.] Lovely as the lass is, I've got my eye on another. I'm not jealous.

I didn't mean of Belle.

[ she arches her eyebrows in a critical expression, but it softens out at the end. she searches belle and gold out in the crowd. ]

They're ... happy.

[unhand]

Ah. That sort of jealousy. [The answer is, perhaps, a mix. He's extra bitter because it's Gold, but he'd certainly like to be happier. He'd love it if he could openly look at Emma the way Gold looks at Belle.] Are you?

I'm not the one trying to police their PDA. [ aka we're not talking about me. we're talking about you. ]

[He raises his eyebrow at her because that's totally deflecting, but in fairness, he did deflect first, so he relents.]

Doesn't help that it's Gold. But I suppose I wouldn't be opposed to having... something like that.

[uncurse]

Yeah? [ that awkward moment when she really walked herself into this one, but now she’s hyper-aware of their closeness and the speed of her pulse. her gaze wanders away from his eyes for a moment and she just barely shakes her head as she draws it back up, forcing herself to find something more to say to dispel the tension. ] I’m surprised. I didn’t think pirates were much for settling down.

We're not, as a rule. [But he glances back at her with a smirk.] Course, we also don't care much for rules. Right woman, right place and time... [He shrugs, expression softening.] I wouldn't think twice.

Well, I’m sure the knight in shining armor thing will help with that.

[ she offers him a tight smile, effectively stepping out of the running with her remark. ]

It’s sweet, but that kind of thing’s just not meant for everyone. [ she’s talking about belle and gold again. ] Or maybe it is, and we screw it up. Either way.

[Hook raises his eyebrow at her. It's not exactly subtle, what she's saying.]

Does that mean you don't want it or you don't think you can have it? They're two very different things, you realize.

[ truthfully? it means she doesn’t want to take the risk, knowing it might not work out, because of how badly it’s gone before. another encounter like neal or graham might just be the straw that breaks her. but hook’s not subtle either, and she can tell he’s more or less gauging his chances here. so she wants to be very careful in how she answers. ]

I don’t think it’s in the cards for someone like me. I accepted that a long time ago; after a while, you stop wanting it. [ she’s still kind of waiting for the stop wanting it part to really stick. ]

I don't believe that. [It might be his sense motive of 15, but more likely it's the fact that he's a fairy tale character and happy endings are so engrained into his sense of life that he simply can't imagine not wanting one.] Don't you ever think about it? About... being happy?

[ IT WASN'T REALLY A LIE, she really believes it. she just hasn't stopped wanting it yet. so ... stop projecting your fairytale shit, hook. ]

I'll be happy when my family's back together. I can't think about anything else until then.

[Convenient evasion.] How's that going, by the way? Any progress on your memory spell?

[ she just shakes her head like no don't go there. that is not an acceptable topic change. she regrets it. ]

That would generally be the point of memory spells. [He raises his eyebrows, a hint of a smirk playing around his lips.]

Cute. [ in the not at all kind of way. she settles into a combative smirk of her own. ] Fine. Let me spell this out for you. Magic is different here. It's not as simple as just ... brewing up some potion in a back room and helping Amara forget her troubles. I have not found any memory spells.
