Now officially Knighted, Vi exchanges her ceremonial armor for a wedding gown, and the guests head into London to gather at the Chelsea Physic Garden.  The evening is warm and clear, and the flowers in full bloom, chairs set up on the main lawn with name tags on them for people to find their seat.  Gentle Elvish music plays everyone in, and at the front of stands an arbor covered in wisteria.  It's a remarkably peaceful setting, enough to dispel further some of the grimness of the past few days and create an atmosphere of smiles and warmth.    It seems to reinforce what Luthir has been telling Vi all along: that maybe now more than ever, this is the sort of thing they need, in order to remember what they're all fighting for.

About three years ago.

[ she tightens her smile, tilting her head. ]

I don't remember anything before that. On the other hand, I'm always learning new things about myself.

[fornicator]

[ he examines her with interest, a curious light in his eyes as he asks: ] And what would you say has been your most interesting find so far, Buffy?

[slay]

Oh, I'm ... really not that interesting.

[ she laughs it off awkwardly. ]

[fornicator]

Des seems to think differently.

[slay]

Maybe. [ she takes a sip of her drink and then sets it down, pushing it away. ] You really go for the personal questions, don't you?

[fornicator]

You don't have to answer if you don't want. I'd rather not kill the conversation.

[slay]

Sorry. I don't mean to be mystery girl, I just don't really like talking about me. [ mayBE IF HELLSING HADN'T CALLED HER A MONSTER. ]

[fornicator]

It's just that Des drops your name enough that I can tell you're important to him.

[slay]

[ she smiles at that, looking over at ... wherever des is right now. ]

I know. He's important to me too. I love him. [ a beat. she looks back at zarad. ] Not ... like you do. [ because she does know that zarad does, there's no doubt in her mind after talking to him (sense motive nat 20??? nat 20 on whatever that check would be lmfao awkward). ] That's—[ she glances back out at the partygoers and her gaze briefly touches on rafael. she bites her lower lip and looks down for a minute, then back at zarad. ] But I do. I know being away from him must be hard, but he's in good hands. I promise.

[fornicator]

[ her nat 20 means that it couldn't be any clearer to buffy whatsoever. zarad does indeed love des - loves him passionately, an all-consuming level of emotion that's... a very familiar sentiment in her life. ] Oh, I've no doubt of that. [ it's clearly directed towards her, an expression of faith in her being there for him. still, he casts a half-wistful glance in des' direction. ] But it's always a temptation to put pleasure before duty for him.

[slay]

I know the feeling.

[ she looks back at her drink, then finishes it off with a long gulp. ]

[fornicator]

That so. [ he backtracks to follow her gaze a moment earlier (spot ... one million or sth) ] ... Speaking of demanding careers.

[slay]

Is there a word for long distance relationship when it's not a relationship?

[ at least she can make fun of herself. she chuckles and shakes her head. ] It's not like that. Not for him, at least.

[fornicator]

I followed what happened on the news - on top of what Des told me about his case.

That's a difficult thing to bounce back from quickly.

[slay]

[ buffy swallows, pressing her lips together and nodding. she scoots her chair back suddenly and stands. ]

I'm ... gonna go see if they have more wings. Do you want anything?

[ abort abort. ]

[fornicator]

I think I'm good. [ there's a twinkle in his eye that seems to indicate he understands very clearly that it's an avoidance tactic... but doesn't mind. ] I should see what kind of trouble he's getting himself into.

[slay]

Well. Try not to exacerbate things. [ she crinkles her nose as she smiles, teasing him. ] It was nice to meet you. I'd say I hope to see you again soon, but ... [ the safest place is far away from all of this and she'd rather he stayed alive tbh. ]

[fornicator]

But I think we both know why Des would rather that not be the case. [ he finishes the thought for her with a nod. ] So don't take it personal if I don't write.

[slay]

Then don't take it as stalker-y if I steal your number outta his phone and call you the next time he tries to do something stupid.

[ she shrugs simply. you are a resource now, zarad. ]

[fornicator]

Or you could just ask me for it.

[slay]

Well, if it's your suggestion and not mine, then I don't have to worry about being the pushy, protective sister. [ she pulls her phone out of her purse and hands it over to him. ]

[fornicator]

Well played. [ and he'll code in the number for her, and then hand it back. ] I can't promise I'll always be able to get right back to you but...

As far as priorities go, he's at the top of my list.

[slay]

I really believe that.

[ she smiles, taking the phone back. she types in his name quickly and tucks it back into her clutch. ]

Well. However long it takes, I hope we haven't seen the last of you, Zarad.

[fornicator]

I doubt you have.
