[There's that brief moment where Martha thinks about telling Gar that she'll find a dragon and discover how unusual it is first-hand if she's curious, but she's not Dumage not...really going to do that, and Gar has no sense of humour.] Are there many corporations and organisations that are fronts for things like the Hoffman Institute, then? And are they run by Shadowkind?

Not to mention some of our expeditions lead to discoveries of large amounts of treasure.

You didn't strike me as the Shadow world type. [She nods at the video games] I assume you've been here long enough to wrap your head around things, at least.

[She has a sense of humor. It's just a ... really old-fashioned one...] Oh, yes, a great deal of them. While Shadowkind are accepted in many societies, they're also almost universally discriminated against on some level. It's quite common for some Shadowkind to attempt to hide their heritage, or for groups that support Shadow goals to disguise the fact.

Even our own organization operates behind the facade of a research institute.

And does a fly-whatsit come with any other ... uh, special traits? Or is it pretty much just wings for the sake of wings?

See, now why couldn't I get one of those for a first mission? Go all Sir Indiana Jones and the considerably more fashionable excavation of the lost tomb of whoever. But, you know, a girl.

[Spike scowls at him.] No clue what you're talking about.

It's been over a month now. [He shrugs a bit.] Might not be Shadow world, but it isn't here. That's about all I know.

[Not really, but he's curious enough to keep asking.] Would it make me glow?

You're the second person to mention this... elven to me upon introduction. I assume this has to do with the shadow world? I'm not from there, if that clarifies anything.

[Myri looks in Gar's direction, trying to imagine that pairing.]

Fascinating. How long ago were you squired?

[Because now Myri is worried about her own safety and the safety of those she has met. Good job.]

Having the ability to do something doesn't make you an expert. I was born with magic within me, and raised by a woman who could also heal others. But she was taken from me when I was very young. There's still a great deal that I do not know.

[witchwoman]

The wings are functional. There isn't really the room to let him make that known, nor do I think now is the time...

Amaranth and I can speak without words. And if he chooses, others can hear him as well. He's a very special familiar.

[As he had already shown Kat and Alainn, but for now the flywacket will be quiet. He doesn't want to scare Buffy too much just yet.]

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that! Just that...I mean, I figured that since you're from a world with magic, you're more likely to know more about it than I am. [She gives a shrug that's somewhere between apologetic and a little self-deprecating.]

Right, that explains the credit cards. What're Shadow goals? Obviously some of them are, you know, taking over the world, killing all humans, things like that, but do some of them work towards the greater good? More acceptance within the existing society, rights for the Shadowkind, et cetera?

[witchwoman]

I just worry that everyone has put too much stock in what happened. Not many people bring up the fact that I nearly lost consciousness right there beside him in doing what I did.

[rationalizes]

Both, actually. There are just as many different groups representing "Shadow interests" as there are... the interests of anyone. Some of them want equality, some of them want to help educate people of this world about their people, others have much more sinister desires.

[She lives for it.] Well, it's always a good idea to stay on your toes. The Knights do have an awfully high casualty rate.

Might not be? Well, aren't you mysterious, then.

The land of elves and hairy footed halflings doesn't sound like home?

Last April, and then I got my full Knighthood in June. Gar was still pretty new herself, to be honest. I think Wynn yanked her out of college or something.
