[Myri looks at her hands, feeling like a bit of a disappointment for not understanding. However, she knows that the only way to learn is to ask. And clearly the woman beside her wishes to discuss something, so she takes a breath and pushes away her insecurity.]

I have seen things that some of the others aren't used to. Magic seems to be a more common thing within the Knights, but I'm guessing that it isn't running rampant where you're from? And I'm certainly no stranger to knowing that things are not always as simple as they seem.

[Myri looks to Amaranth and gives him a little nod. She has to learn to trust these people, and while it will certainly be a slow process, she believes that opening up to Buffy may help in many ways. The large cat in Buffy's lap flexes and curves its back. The fur begins to ripple and move at either side of his spine. Slowly, two wings extend for the briefest moment, then retract back into flaps built into the animal's body.]

We can only learn from each other if we are willing to share.

[slays]

[ Honestly? She doesn't know how rampant it runs where she's from. She doesn't remember magic, but she doesn't remember a lot of things. The only memories she does have are the dreams, filled with monsters and vampires and pain and violence. But, even though they feel like her, she knows, rationally, that they are not her. And it doesn't make sense.

But all that seems to fade away as wings spring forth from the back of the cat in her lap. She jumps a little, pressing back into the seat, eyes widening. Wings. Just for a minute, and then they were gone, but they were there. On a cat. Wings on a cat? What kind of cat needed wings? ]

Did he just -- And with the -- Huh? [ She looks back at Myri. ] Cat. Cats aren't supposed to -- Are they? Are cats supposed to do that? Because I was under the distinct impression that they were definitely a wing-free type and --

[witchwoman]

[Amaranth begins to purr to try to soothe Buffy, nuzzling his head into her hand to remind her that he's still just as gentle as he was a moment ago.]

Amaranth isn't a cat. [Myri says, not sure how much to reveal. She doesn't want to start a scene.] He's a flywacket. And I promise he won't hurt you.

[slays]

A fly-whatkit? [ Her eyebrows raise, confused, then she looks down at Amaranth, slowly reaching out a hand to pet him again. Her hand brushes over his back, trying to figure out what the hell happened to those wings. ] What's a -- a one of those?

[witchwoman]

Flywacket [She says slower.] He is what he is. I'm not certain if there's a better way to describe it. Unless he chooses to show his true form, he looks much like a typical cat- although a little larger than most...

[slays]

And does a fly-whatsit come with any other ... uh, special traits? Or is it pretty much just wings for the sake of wings?

[witchwoman]

The wings are functional. There isn't really the room to let him make that known, nor do I think now is the time...

Amaranth and I can speak without words. And if he chooses, others can hear him as well. He's a very special familiar.

[As he had already shown Kat and Alainn, but for now the flywacket will be quiet. He doesn't want to scare Buffy too much just yet.]

A flying telepath cat. [ She looks down at Amaranth, eyebrows raised. ] You really are something, aren't you? [ She sighs, shaking her head and goes back to petting him, looking over at Myri. ] You should show him to Nessa Harvey when we get back. I'll bet she'd get a kick out of him.

[witchwoman]

[Amaranth answers with a rolling purr.]

I don't think I've met this Nessa. Is she another squire?

[slay]

No, she's a knight. At least, I think she's a night. Anyway, she's a telepath.

[witchwoman]

Oh. I suppose I still have a great many people left to meet.

[The Knights are more like a village, really. SO MANY PEOPLE]

I cannot imagine Amaranth meeting another telepath- human or otherwise. He'd likely be beside himself.

[slays]

Wouldn't it be all nice and cozy? I mean, I kinda figured it'd be a load off. No tongues required.

[witchwoman]

[Myri laughs lightly.] I've heard from some that it can be incredibly mentally taxing. Amaranth has been with me my whole life, so I think that I've just grown used to it.

Plus, I think he'd like to have more than just me to talk to. It must get terribly boring for him.

[slays]

Oh, yeah. I mean, Nessa said she had to concentrate ... [ She looks down at Amaranth, considering this, then shrugs. ] Well, either way. Worth looking into it, at least.

[witchwoman]

Certainly. I'll be sure to seek her out once we get back.

[slays]

Anyway. I've got in-flight movie to get back to. I'll let you make with the gawking. [ She lifts up Amaranth, getting to her feet and then setting him back in the seat she'd stolen from him. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri doesn't understand what that means at all, but she understands enough to smile and wave.]
