... Wait. He funds this whole thing himself?

[rationalizes]

Technically we don't charge anyone for our services, but we have a number of grateful patrons, including certain governments who gladly donate to the Knighthood in return for our assistance.

[slays]

... Huh. Gratitude. Who woulda thought? [ She looks thoughtful at this, giving a shrug. ] Well, I guess if that's what we're counting on, I guess magicking up the food really does make the most sense.

[rationalizes]

Not to mention some of our expeditions lead to discoveries of large amounts of treasure.

[slays]

See, now why couldn't I get one of those for a first mission? Go all Sir Indiana Jones and the considerably more fashionable excavation of the lost tomb of whoever. But, you know, a girl.

[rationalizes]

Well, we are looking for treasure, actually, it just isn't located in a haunted tomb. [Silly Buffy.]

[slay]

But, wouldn't it be great if it were? I guess an invincibility talisman thing is cooler than the long lost treasure of Pharaoh Whoever, anyway.

[rationalizes]

We do get our share of... Indiana Jones style exploration too, I assure you. If that's your preference.

[slay]

[ She shrugs, chilling out a little bit. ] Just seems like it'd be fun is all.

[rationalizes]

It can be, but it also tends to involve things like... hacking through bug-filled jungles and crawling through spider-infested rooms that haven't seen light in hundreds of years.

It's certainly worth the thrill of discover, but it isn't always as glamorous as it may sound.

Hey, I said it'd be fun, I didn't say the ick factor wouldn't be major.

[rationalizes]

I suppose that's the proper spirit.

[slay]

So, what do you think about this whole thing, anyway? Our treasure-hunting mission, I mean. What are the chances you'll even actually need us?

[rationalizes]

Relatively high. I doubt I'll discover the Jade sitting in Dr. Hoffman's desk. It's more likely I might find information that will help us decipher what lead they've been pursuing, and then we'll need to investigate it as a unit.

[slay]

Got it. But, wouldn't it be great if he were just using it as a paperweight?

[rationalizes]

It would certainly make our lives simpler, yes.

[slay]

Well, lots more hours of plane ride left. I say until touchdown, we can dream. [ She pulls out her headphones, shrugging with a certain nonchalance and then pulls them on, sinking down in her chair. Yep. She's pretending it'll be smooth sailing. ]
