The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ he looks up from his drink, glancing at her. ] You really like cherries. [ with a wisdom check of 12, he doesn't quite get that she's not in the party mood. one thing he does recognize. ] Not itching for something a little stronger?

I'm not old enough. [ (bluff 19) look, do you know how many times people have looked at her askance because they don't believe her actual age? she looks like she's sixteen, especially rocking flip flops and munching down on maraschino cherries like they're going out of style. ]

[ he believes that. ] Who knew they robbed the recruitment cradle here. [ he's this side of one hundred seventy, age isn't really a thing for him anymore. ] Do you have a curfew?

I was already in the Roman legion, they robbed the cradle first. [ she holds up her right arm so he can see the tattoo on the inside of her forearm. it's a crowned pomegranate crossed with a sickle and the letters SPQR with eleven horizontal black bars underneath it like a particularly uniform barcode. ]

[ okay. impressive. he brings the glass to his lips. something about her seems weathered - but not broken. like she's been through some shit. that earns her his name and concern. she's interesting and not in an alcoholic half-orc, knife happy pint-sized brunette way. ] As you heard today - Damon. Damon Salvatore. Sir, now. [ A smile. ] Can I have a cherry?

[ she genuinely thinks about about for a moment before she shrugs. ] One. If you try to take two I promise it won't be pretty.

[ he takes a second to evaluate her, deciding to only take one. teeth closing around it, he pulls the stem off and chews. ] Thanks. How's your Shirley Temple? [ nat 20 will save to not mock that shit. ]

Sweet. It's just cherry sprite. Shirley Temple is just easier to order than a sprite with grenadine and extra cherries on the side.

Less to mix. [ He gets it. ] The castle really adheres to drinking ages?

[ she scoffs out a short laugh. ] No. I do personally.

And the drinking age in Europe is still eighteen. [ but, he drops the cherry stem he'd been fiddling with to the side, he puts his hands up. ] Not that I'm judging.

Good. Because judgement would also end in the not pretty. So, Damon Salvatore, what are you going to do for the knights? Go around stealing girls' cherries -- don't. Don't answer that last part. Phrasing.

[ spend a year with archer and you're bound to pick up his favorite word. ]

[ he smiles at that, doesn't answer the second part. ] I asked for your cherry. [ a beat. ] Phrasing, again? [ innocent flower, here. bluff 13 ] I'm going to be doing whatever the knights want me to do. Isn't that why I'm here?

Yeah, but usually people come into this with a pre-existing skill set. Like I shoot giant thorns at people with the power of my mind.

And I'm a vampire. Which brings with it a unique skill set. [ nonhalance~ ]

My mom is a goddess. [ more nonchalance. ]

[ He downs his glass like a shot. Sticks a finger up ordering another. ]

But, I have a vampire brother. And apparently, he has a doppelganger girlfriend.

[ that piques her interest slightly. in a way that makes her shoulders slump and all the light dim out of her bright blue eyes. she misses elena. and more than that, she doesn't want elena to come home and realize what she missed, elena doesn't need that guilt on top of everything else she is going through. and vi knows she will feel guilty, elena has more compassion in her pinky finger than anyone vi has ever met. she's just so worried about her and knowing how smart and capable elena is doesn't do much to lessen the worry. she'll be fine, but vi won't believe it until elena is right in front of her. ]

Doppelgängers are pretty rare here so I'm going to go out on a limb with your lack of parental memories and guess you're not a native.

I have - three clear memories. And two names. So, not a native. [ he's unaware Elena's a doppelganger back in her own world. he's only heard the term here. he's heard too much by this point. but nobody's said enough about her. they have contempt for her. what she did. but they don't know her. it's weird for damon to know only three things for certain but he does. stefan is his brother. and he loves elena. and so does damon. what a tangled web we weave.

and somehow, alaric fits into all of this. ] But, I think we're talking about the same doppelganger.

Unless your brother is dating Kyp, I'm not sure we are. [ elena is a strong woman who don't need no man, alright. ]

Not Kyp. [ what're you talking about. she constantly gets herself into trouble. he... knows this. somehow. ]

[ her eyes narrow slightly. she is very protective of elena. she doesn't like the idea of some random person apparently knowing elena without having elena around to say yes, this is this person. it was easy with ric because vi could see how comfortable they were together with her own eyes but since elena is not here...

hesitant distrust is the name of the game. sorry, damon. ] I'm not sure Elena is the same person you think you remember. [ not just because what are the odds but because elena has been here for over two years, none of them are the same person anymore ]

Well, for starters, she's clearly not with my brother, anymore. [ he'll drink to that. ] I know what you're going to say. I just met you, Elena's never mentioned you. Why do you get more memories and why does Elena get two years in a castle? The answer to all those questions is, "I don't know." [ whomever elena is, however she is, he'll care about her. work at saving her. even if she doesn't want it. that's who he is. ] She means something to me. Even if nobody here gets that and even if I can't prove it.

Actually I wasn't going to say that at all. [ just, for the record. ] I was going to say, Elena is my family. And we're not the most trusting of people. You might want to take it slow with the people that know her. [ a beat. ] Kyp said he was her friend, too, she meant something to him, too, and it endly badly. No one is keen on letting that happen to her again. [ also they're kind of a violent bunch. they do love their weapons. ] If you are her friend, and I'm not saying you're not, but if you are, be gentle with the people that consider her their family because we're the ones that lost her. [ not you. ]

[ she's family to him, too. more. she gave that up because he didn't deserve it. but, he doesn't like being in this position. he's not used to being the outsider and caring about it. and the only reason he does care is because elena is embroiled in yet another mess.
