The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

[ He's actually very sexy. The epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. And she hasn't actually had any attention, real or motivated by other agendas, since.. before coming through the Veil. Well, there may have been flirting here and there, but it's pretty much been all business.

She smiles and flips her hair. (charisma 15) So, trying to keep up here. ] I bet adjusting has been hard. Though, that's assuming you're not from here, but I'm willing to bet you aren't.

<[ with a 15, she's sexy, but it doesn't overwhelm him. pretty girls happen. ] I'm not. What gave it away?

Intuition? I'm not sure. You seem to remember more of your life before, though.

I remember my brother Stefan, Elena - yes, that Elena - and everything else fades outward from there.

[ Her eyebrows shoot up and her eyes get wide at the mention of Elena. Oh, man. But it's just a moment, and she recovers nicely. ] I know the feeling. I have memories of things I did, things I can do, but people that I knew or cared about? [ She shakes her head. ]

Nobody? No siblings?

I don't know. I try to think about it, and it's like there's, like, holes in my memories? Or blurs. Where I know people should be, but I can't see them or know who they were to me. [ And this is vaguely depressing. She's just going to grab a glass of champagne from a passing tray. ]

[ With a dex of 13, he does as well, but it almost tips. He saves it. Vampire reflexes, yo. ] That's how it is. Besides Stefan's name, Elena's name - that they're together, she's his girl - everything else blurs together. Or, there's nothing at all. It's fun.

That sucks. [ :( ] To fun. [ She raises her glass in toast. ]

To fun. [ A smirk, that he can provide, clinking his glass against hers, devilishly (charisma 18). Because he'd like some fun tonight. ]

[ The smirk brings a faint blush to her face, one she tries to hide by looking away as she takes a drink. Did he mean fun like what they had just been talking about, or "fun" like... well, that would be new. Different. Possibly nerve-wrecking. ] So how long have you been here? Not like here here, but general here.

[ He takes a sip, too. ] Here, here? About a month. I was wandering the castle last month. Dumage found me in New Haven. I missed the squiring by that much. [ He holds up too fingers. ]

So close. [ She nods, laughing. ] I probably should have met you before now, then. But I've spent way too much time buried in a dark corner of the library.

Big on the research?

I like big books and I cannot lie. But really, I like some of everything.

You're not the only one. [ more flirting. he's shameless. ]

[ More blushing. This time, though, she doesn't look away. ] So what is your particular talent? Aside from being incredibly charming.

You mean, I can't count that? [ A smirk. ] One would scare you, one I was barred from -- let's just say, being a vampire is a talent in itself. The charm's all me.

[ Would scare her? Sounds like a challenge. ] I don't scare that easily. [ (bluff total 20) ] But it sounds like something I could hear about later. How long have you been a vampire, do you remember?

[ He leans in, whispering. ] Let's just say this isn't the place for it. [ And then he leans back. ] A long, long time. Turned at the ripe old age of [ A beat. ] Well, your guess is as good as mine.

[ She nods. That's pretty much what she figured from the whole 'outright banned' comment. Not here, not now. ] So that's a no to being able to remember. Why did you decide to join the Knights? Not that I'm doubting Dumage's recruiting techniques.

Perks. Money. Intrigue. [ Nat 20 bluff right there. ]

[ nat 20 sense motive, 25 total. Sorry, Damon. ] And the real answer is?

A friend of mine I do remember has gotten herself into a world of trouble. And everyone here is intimately familiar with her yet not one of them is doing something about it. Looking after her became my job. She has a way of getting herself into trouble. I get it. I remember that. But, with everyone talking about betrayal and countermeasures and consequences - someone has to be there to err on the side of, it's Elena Gilbert, birds help her with her hair in the morning. Her compassion is her greatest asset and her greatest flaw and if she did anything, she had a good reason for it. [ a beat. ] As annoying as that might be.

[ She's expecting another bluff, another something simple and maybe half-true but not the real reason. This? This makes her falter, her smile fall, her expression grow serious. ] I believe that. About Elena, I mean. I... I worked with her, I feel like I at least sorta knew her. Those of us on that mission, I'm sure we're all concerned and stunned and-- [ She clears her throat, looking up at him. ] I know I want to help. Whatever way I can.
