There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[ okay, pacing is fine, she guesses, although it makes her awfully uneasy again. tbf that's probably the mindset she should be in anyway. ] I suppose I hadn't considered that.

[ she looks down at her hands in her lap, her mind racing through all the young squires she's come to know of the last year or two, and just how unqualified most of them are for a war. but, when they have no idea what to expect, and it's nearly impossible to properly convey the gravity of this all, it's very difficult to imagine being able to dissuade any of them. ] They must think it their duty, as part of this Knighthood. That's certainly how Wynn made it sound.

Their duty to die for the cause. A cause I'm certain most of them barely understand.

I never said it was noble, nor do I think it the right decision for most any of them to make, but when you leader makes a call to arms, what kind of knight doesn't raise banner for the cause?

They'll likely just get in our way.

I've no doubt of such, but Wynn's fairly single-minded at the moment, and having the most bodies is always an advantage in a war. [ #coldhardtruth ] Although, honestly, I truly believe he intends to trust each one of them to make their own decision on the matter, and he would never refuse to allow one of his Knights the chance to reach their glory, most especially when they're aim align with his.

In other words, he'll use their idealism to his advantage.

I don't think he intended any malice by his actions. [ but using others' idealism to his advantage is kind of... what the knighthood is ] In his mind, he's come to realize this is an evil that needs to be stomped out of existence, and sooner rather than later.

I have to trust he has some sort of plan up his sleeve. Something to give us a more solid advantage. [ actually, she doesn't sound so sure of that, because it's not like they really have a choice anymore, is it? ]

[ she eyes him suspiciously, the tension slowly draining from her face as the corner of her mouth twitches ever-so-slightly ] You say that as if you know something I don't.

[ hmph. she tries to look unaffected by whatever it is she might not know yet, but she rolled a 2 for her bluff check, and it's pretty obvious she's perturbed. ] Well, if it's enough for you to rally behind, I suppose I'll just have to trust your judgement.

I'm not yet certain how on board I am with the rallying.

And what actions do you intend to take? [ she's not criticizing his uncertainty, but rather is genuinely curious. and slightly concerned. but she's with him, if she's with anyone, so his plans do greatly impact her own. ]

We'll likely be infiltrating the guardhouses of the palace themselves. Taking what weaponry we can out of their reach before the alarm sounds.

Seems straightforward enough, I suppose. [ and now she's just... watching him. because she can, as he's here... in her room, and she's just starting to slowly realize this. ]

Once the guards realize what's going on, they'll likely send back for reinforcements and supplies. It'll be our job to hold the facility, and dispatch any guards who return before they realize what's going on.

[ she nods ] I suppose it's quite fortunate, then, that there are those of us skilled at quickly dispatching of enemies that stand in our way.

You're hopeful, then, that we'll be able to take the island?

Take it, yes. Hold it? Is quite another thing.

Of course. I assume Wynn has some sort of plan for that, as well? Not that we know what that it now, but I trust it'll come up soon enough.

"Some sort" of plan, is it. I can't say I have the same amount of faith in it as he does.

You've certainly never been quite as idealistic as he is. [ said with a smirk, but she's clearing teasing, as much as it may be true

also, she's realized he's not going to spill all his secrets about what's coming, but at least she'll know soon enough. instead, she stands again and makes her way over to the dry sink she keeps as a mini bar in her room b/c that's certainly healthy. ] I know you've got lots to do before tomorrow, but do you think you might have time to spare for one drink? It's the sort of night one doesn't wish to spend alone.

I could certainly spare a break from dealing with the other Sect Leaders.

[ I can't imagine she has much more furniture on her room than this sofa, so they can just sit on opposite sides. or she could sit on her bed, but that might be more awkward. she motions to said couch as she takes out two glasses and fills them both almost to the rim. christos needs to relax, and while she only keeps the really good stuff, it's gonna take a bit for him to even feel it bc he's a recovering alcoholic. she, on the other hand has no where to be and would like to manage some sleep tonight.

she hands him his glass carefully and moves to sit on the sofa, a leg tucked up beneath her so she can probably face him. she's glad he's willing to stay for a bit, even if he feels the need to make excuses, and she enjoys a comfortable silence with him for a few moments before speaking up again ] Was there much discordance among the ranks about the upcoming invasion?
