There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[ there's no giant pile of treasure :( the room is, however, rather large, and very richly furnished, and gold does seem to be a recurring theme. decorative vases, paintings, sculptures and jewels catch the eye this way and that. ]

That's what I wanted to talk to you about. Everything has been happening really fast. And I haven't been assigned a mission yet, so this is sort of like being thrown in the deep end. I want to help. I really do. I guess I just...wanted your opinion too.

A war isn't fought only by seasoned veterans on the front lines, young lad. It takes all kinds, and I think you have the heart for it.

I guess I just thought I would get a warm up mission before everything went to hell.

And ideally, you certainly would. Unfortunately, these volatile matters are by nature... unpredictable. As least you've had a matter of months to train, even if it was within the safety of these walls.

Yeah, everyone's been great. Vi, Francesca- I don't know if I'm really improving but they're at least helping me out.

Wynnefalshond, gods bless him, has his moments of being, how should we say - a bit dramatic about these things. It's one battle, not a proper war.

Not worrying at all leads one to overconfidence, and then one makes foolish mistakes. I'd say I'm just worried enough.

I'm definitely on the 'too worried' side of things. I just don't really know how helpful I can be out there. But I want to help. I need to.

Do you doubt your ability to help others on any other mission you may be assigned to?

No, I mean... I guess I just figured it would be something smaller for the first one.

The overall scale may seem larger, but the task you are assigned will be no more than what you would expect to see on any other mission.

Divide and conquer. That sort of thing. [He was actually kind of imagining them all barreling in as one army, so this makes him feel a little better at least.]

We're not soldiers, Stiles. Wynn does not treat us as such.

I know, or-- I assumed. It's just... I mean it's war. Soldiers go to war.

A single battle is not a war. Wynn only used the word to impress a sense of levity on you all - which certainly has worked.
