debriefing ♔ in the emptiness there's a solution | just look within yourself for absolution

♬ locking up the sun- poets of the fall
WHO || Wynn, Buffy, Myri, Finnick, Spike, Gar, Archer, Des, Vi, Rafael, Fred Jr., Dumage, Mark, Rocket, open! [Closed]
WHAT || Andres Mission Debrief & Aftermath
WHERE || Knights HQ, lobby etc.
WHEN || September 18th [forward dated*]
HOW || Actionspam. Single thread, don't worry about maintaining tagging order.
There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.
Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.
Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.
*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

Yes, I'm quite certain you're in good company for feeling restless today. I take it you'll be joining us at at the council then?

How have you been? We haven't had much opportunity to talk since...
[Since the counterstrike mission.]

[gurl she knows how you can be when you dig your heels in. idk people talk /handwaves her hearing a story or two.]

I only mean that you both seem to have difficulty accepting help when it's offered, or admitting when something might be beyond your ability. But that same quality makes you all the more determined to complete a task on your own. It's a matter of finding the balance. You've had more time here to find that happy medium.

Fine. But fair warning, if she ever tries to tell me she knows more about my own brain chemistry than I do, she's going to get a demonstration. [ its maybe more of a concession to helen than an actual threat. lila knows better than to use her curse work against fellow knights. her dad gave her a certain respect for the code, whether unspoken or not. but on occasion her temper trumps that respect and all her self-control and lila is slowly losing all of her patience for people acting like they know more about her abilities than she does. ]

Not on her, of course. Consent is paramount in circumstances like these. But if she could see your abilities at work on another knight- on me, then maybe it could foster a more civil, productive conversation about the process. I understand that now would be a terrible time for such things, much more pressing matters at hand, but... When we return, it would be worth bringing up.
[at the end of the day, Helen wants Lila to know one thing more than any other- that she trusts her. Lila's power is unlike most she's seen, and some might find it incredibly dangerous in the hands of someone who comes off so quick to anger. But Helen has found that Lila only strives to be heard and understood. She can't begrudge the young woman that at all.]

You want me to curse you in front of Lydia? [ dubious as fuck. ] It's not like I'm going to actually curse you. I doubt knocking you out again is going to convince Lydia that HBG exists, especially when there are spells for sleep.
[ and lila isn't going to torture helen with nightmares to prove a point. it isn't occuring to her sleepwalk helen into doing something because 90% of the time she likes helen -- not being talked down to is very attractive and helen usually knows how to talk to lila without making her defensive.
usually. and, to be fair, lila is stressed at the moment so a little defensiveness is to be expected. ]

[The problem here was that it required Lila to want to out forth the effort to teach Lydia about her ability. And Helen could see how frustrating that could be, especially in a place like this where hundreds of seemingly impossible things could happen at any given time.]
no subject
but that would be rude.
expending the energy to curse a volunteer to teach a know it all that she doesn't know it all isn't really high on lila's list of things to do. but in deference to helen she doesn't outright say no. maybe is as close as the woman is going to get, though. ]

I'm proud of you, you know. [She steps closer, cautious.] The events at the Petersen residence. You handled yourself well, did the best you could with a difficult situation. [Helen doubts that people find themselves prompted to give Lila that sort of praise. She holds herself like she doesn't need it, like it would be brushed off- and it very well might, but in case she never gets the chance to say it, she wants to say it now.]
You're a remarkable woman, Lila.

helen's praise is like a sucker punch to her lack of self-confidence and lack of self-worth. especially considering why she is being praised, for something lila considers a personal gross failure.
she doesn't say anything for a long moment, looking out at the gardens and the woods. the little vibration in her pocket is probably faye texting her that she's awake. finally, and not begrudgingly even if it seems like lila is having trouble accepting it, she nods a little. ] Thanks.

I'll see you at the briefing. If you need anything... [She trails the thought off, clearly leaving that door open, should Lila need to talk about anything more. Otherwise, she'll just head back inside.]
