Arrival in the city involved picking up any weapons or equipment that they had sent to meet them here and moving into their oh-so-fancy hotel rooms on the top floor. It consists of four adjoining rooms with a shared living room space and kitchenette. Each bedroom has two separate beds and roomies are:

Buffy & Myri
Martha & Dumage
Spike & Sven

Mark's agreed to sleep on the couch, since there aren't any spaces with five separate adjoining rooms available.

Gar's new job will begin on Monday, which gives the Knights the weekend to explore the city if they like, do research on the Hoffman Institute, scope out the Institute's campus, set up surveillance plans, or otherwise unwind before the real work starts. Feel free to start threads for anything, and use subject lines to denote which day it occurs on! Also don't be afraid to jack multiple people into threads, as now is a great time for some TEAM BUILDING 8) ... Try not to kill each other, in other words.]

Oh. Right. Obviously. [ She tries to make it sound like a duh thing but ... after a long pause she gives Kat a bewildered look. ] ... That's a thing that happens a lot around here?

Not all the time. [She slips the pack back into her coat, digging for a lighter] I mean, it hasn't really happened to anyone I know.

How do they decide who ... ? [ This seems like a hot mess in the making. ]

Who what? They try to rez?

[She stops looking for a lighter and yanks a wallet out of her backpocket. (Yep) And then flips over her license and shows it to Buffy.] People who don't want to be check the little box labelled DNR - "Do not rez, do not resuscitate.'

[slay]

[ Buffy's eyebrows shoot up and she takes the license from Kat, checking it out. Wtf ... She hands it back over. ] That's ... convenient, I guess. So, people who are with the knights just get to be immortal unless they decide not to be.

[shootfirst]

Oh, not at all. I forget not everybody knows about this stuff. [She slides her license away and goes back to lighting her cigarette] Mortal bodies are only designed to handle so much, so you have to be pretty tough to survive a resurrection in the first place. ... Though I'm not sure 'survive's the best word when you're already dead if you're being rezzed...

Either way, [she clicks the lighter shut] you come back a little weaker, so it gets progressively less likely you'd survive another rez, unless you work to buff yourself back up pretty hard.

And aasimars and stuff can't be rezzed at all. Since they're like, not from this plane originally so their connection to here is too strained to summon their spirits back once they've gone "home".

Basically, the clerics can give it their best shot when someone goes down, but there's a whole tense waiting period of not knowing whether it's gonna work or not.

[ She nods her understanding along as Kat explains, looking progressively more in line with understanding and accepting than being overwhelmed and bewildered. ] I'm still working on processing the part where it can work out at all. I mean, yeah, tense period, but it's still might-not-be-mourning period. [ She shrugs. ] I mean -- I guess it's just one thing to watch them heal someone from, like, how Arthur was. It's another to think about bringing him back if he'd really, you know. [ They're walking down the street, la la. It's very cold. Buffy hunches her shoulders, folding her arms across her chest to draw her jacket in closer to her. ]

Yeah, I mean, it can't be easy or anything, since... you're stuck not knowing whether to mourn or not for who knows how long. But it's also a reason to be more hopeful about the whole situation, you know?

[slay]

Makes sense. [ She seems to give this some thought. She glances behind them, satisfied with their distance from the hotel, then fixes Kat with a look. ] ... Can I ask you something? You've ... You've been a knight for a while, right? So, with all this ... rezzing and DNR and missions and -- You've probably seen everything.

[shootfirst]

[Kat glances over, as if giving that some thought, taking a puff and shaking some ashes onto the sidewalk] Yeah, sure. Totally. Why?

[slay]

What do you know about vampires?

[shootfirst]

Vampires? [The question seems to take her by surprise, and she tips her head to the side, thinking] Bad news bears. Undead, soulless, blood drinking, that kind of thing. Not a big problem here in London though. I mean there's this whole secret organization bent on wiping out all the vamps in England, so that keeps the population pretty low.

[slay]

[ Ouch. It's all a reminder of what she'd already figured. She knew the stories, she knew what she saw in her nightmares. The secret organization is interesting, though ... Of course, they weren't a very good secret if people knew about them, but she figured knights had perks like that. She'd have to look into that with Jack later. ]

That's what I thought. [ She looks like she's struggling with the idea, very obviously bluff check 5, and she finally looks at Kat, searching for any kind of glimmer of hope that there's some way she's wrong. ] ... So, they're never -- I mean, they can't be good.

Welll, I guess in our line of work, it's sort of never say never - I mean, we have some tieflings who work for the Knights and if anybody's hardwired for evil it's gotta be those guys - but it's gotta be hella rare. Like mythical rare. But I guess I've never really met one yet.

[slays]

R-Right. So, very not your average, garden variety vamp, then. [ She looks down briefly, reaching up to tug at her neckline. ] But, it's possible. I mean, it could happen. Even though they're all ... evil, soulless and suck-y.

[shootfirst]

[Wis check of 20 means...] Is there a reason you're bringing this up?

[slays]

Hm? [ Bluff check 22. She shrugs. ] It's nothing, really. I was just thinking, 'cause, you know, me and Myri caught this movie earlier -- Van Helsing. Have you seen it?

[shootfirst]

[Kat looks... not really convinced. But she keeps her features somewhat even] ... Yeah, that was a good one. Hooray for hotel cable, huh?

[slays]

Seriously. I was just thinking, like, how cool would it be to actually do that stuff. But, of course, secret organizations for that and all. [ She hesitates, then looks over. ] Does that secret hunt-y exterminate-y organization have a name?

[shootfirst]

Sure does. It's called the Hellsing Organization. [She lets that sink in, before glancing over at Buffy] Because real life Vanhelsing's the guy who started it.

[slays]

[ If she were drinking, this would be a spittake. ] -- What? The real huh? You -- No way. Uh uh. That was a movie. As in fiction. As in there is no studly Hugh Jackman starting some big scary freemason society.

[shootfirst]

Pretty sure that whole truth is stranger than fiction clause applies. Or maybe I'm thinking of 'art reflects life'...

[slay]

Right ... [ she considers this for a moment. ] So, this Hellsing Organization. Are they allies of ours? Is that why you're all in the know gal?

[shootfirst]

Ugh. Way no. Not that they're our enemies, exactly, I mean technically they're all queen-and-country-certified secret ops but they're also religious whackjobs who pretty much hate anyone getting in their way. Which they consider us to be doing whenever we try to take on anything roughly related to the undead in the entire country.

[slay]

But, if they're trying to wipe out all the -- [ god, it still feels a little weird to say ] vampires, then shouldn't they want all the help they can get? I mean, hello, big evil.
