[ It seems that Wynn was hoping for Sir Mark Sandazhard to reveal his true identity, and to lead the charge against Dimitris Sarandis' tyrannical hold over the island he was born to rule.   He was not disappointed, and Prince Marcus Andres stands poised to lead the group of Knights who he's worked beside for two years, to confront Sarandis, save their friend Kat, and search the castle dungeon for the captive Dragon's Claw, Sir Thomas Bancroft.    

Before they attempt to answer the castle, however, it's time to reunite the Prince with his childhood friends on the Isle, who had long held out hope that he was still alive, including his once-betrothed, Countess Lara Tamon.  Their first task will be to convince Lara to make a risky attempt to draw Kat out of the castle.  

The fate of their captured allies, and the future of Andres Isle, lie in their hands.  ]

[ A hand drops on Myri's shoulder—silent appreciation for her priorities. But she doesn't take her up on the offer, instead following Mark out onto the roof after a quick, anxious glance around that never truly engages with any of them. ]

[Elena answers Dean's question, if only because she answered Will's too.]

Some kind of portal? It opened up behind her and swallowed both of them. Myri said they could have only traveled about half a mile at most.

[There's a lack of emotion to her words, but she manages to meet his gaze.]

We'll be lucky if we even know who we're looking for. Psions can screw with your senses. For all we know, they'll double dutch off the island looking like two of us.

Just an illusion, at least, which means if people are really tryin, they might be able to see through em. Beats looking for doppelgangers. And I doubt Dimitris' got his Wynn impression down.

[rationalizes]

[ gar hangs up, upon watching Jack's entrance and subsequent reaction, and moves towards him with an arm that intends an embrace, but he arrests her approach with a gently lofted palm before she can touch him. Her already fretful expression becomes riddled with insecurity, eyes skating to Wynn, as if in sudden fear of some tacit agreement between the men, that had allowed jack to participate in this battle, at the cost of forsaking the relationship he had promised her. His expression shifts when he takes note of her doubt, and he offers her a sad smile, acknowledging his still acid soaked armor, that he was merely shielding her from. Embarrassed relief floods her features, which melts into sympathy quickly for his loss, ]

[ meanwhile, wynn has shifted his attention to Kat and Fred, approaching her slowly, and then squatting down to place one hand on her shoulder. She looks up at him, and he scans her face, seeming to register the affection at the root of her loss, and it prompts a subtle shift behind his eyes. his tone carries an all too rare intimacy when he speaks to her, and there's a quiet privacy to the words, though they're said for all to hear. ]

The castle is ours. He will be borne to one of the rooms here, where our clerics may tend to him.

[ the optimistic turn of phrase, which makes it sound as though his condition were so much more simple to remedy than it is in truth, seems to afford her the comfort she needs to nod slightly and stop looking ready to fight anyone who dares come near him. ]

[Elena's eyes flick over to Dean, brows knitting together, wondering if there's something more to that doppelganger statement beyond the last hour-ish(?) they've spent together (wis 23).

She hopes not, considering his current company.

Elena looks toward Kat then toward the door, because she sure doesn't want to be in this room anymore. Embracing Kat isn't an option for a myriad of reasons, and intruding on this moment otherwise just leaves a sick feeling in her stomach.

Too bad she'd have to...walk past Wynn, nope.]

[In the midst of that swirl of emotions, Myri might at least feel a little surge of warmth and relief when she speaks, Rose finally able to take her in properly rather than the fleeting glimpse she'd been granted before and though it feels selfish to be grateful when they are surrounded by loss, there's at least a twitch of a smile that touches her lips as she nods to the others who had just entered.]

Them first.

[Dean's words seem to spark something however, her expression grim as she turns something over in her mind. Being still like this, doing nothing makes her feel useless and if there's a chance? After a moment of hesitation, she turns her head towards Dean to speak in a low voice.]

These illusions... would they work on Spirits too or just us?

What, like ghosts? [ give him a sec. ] Not sure. As far as I know, they're not immune. You can trick a ghost in other ways, so it might not be impossible.

[technophobic]

[ as jack goes to pick up fred, lan moves to take up myri's offer with a slightly developing limp. it's been a long day for the paladin, and he's out of spells to heal himself, ok. ]

[witchwoman]

[Just kidding. Myri has a cure light wounds mass spell so instead of waiting for a line to form, she casts it quickly before Mark and Buffy get out the door. And using that roll from that tag that totally didn't happen... 18 hp to anyone who needs it. Merry Christmas.]

[bigbad]

[Spike climbs slowly back down the stairs, shoulders slumped hopelessly. He doesn't know why everyone's wasting their time searching. He could be anywhere, and no doubt had an escape plan all ready for him to vanish and put into effect while they waste time combing the island for him.

He heads towards Elena shoving aside his anger for long enough to give her a slight smile. At least they got her back. There's one upside to this whole mess.]

Been a while, pet. You've been missed.

[Again, her expression is guarded as Spike makes his way over. Of everyone here, he's one of the two people who should be the most upset with her.

Her expression is almost stony, giving away none of the surprise she finds at his words (will save 30).]

Really? [She says it as if it's a preposterous idea.] I can't imagine you're speaking for everyone.

[wynn]

[ kat follows jack out, and wynn straightens up to standing. without looking over, he says firmly from across the room: ] Sir Gilbert.

[Yeah, that's why she was being quiet...

Her shoulders visibly tense, though at least she manages not to...look like a frightened little girl as she looks away from Spike and toward his intimidating gaze(will save 18). She's clearly not as solid as she was a moment ago, though.]

I'm surprised you're even calling me that.

[What is that sir doing there, sir?]

[wynn]

Is there a reason I should not? [ he turns to study her, looking her over. ] I don't recall you tendering a formal resignation.

[doubletake]

[Her brows furrow, conflicted and confused.]

I guess I thought deliberate disobedience and a prison break would make that decision for me.

[Despite the presentation of the words, there's a lack of sass to them. It's not like she can pretend it didn't happen, and she's going to own her choices, no matter how badly the went.]

[wynn]

Your concern over the potential fate of Kyp was made quite clear in our last conversation. So, too, your desire to find the best in him, to allow him a chance to atone for what he had done.

To rescue Thomas. [ the words are flatly composed, not betraying a hint of emotion, despite the man in question being carried out of the room as they speak. ]

I choose to believe the best in my Knights, Sir Gilbert, or else I never would have allowed you to take the oath in the first place. Before any decisions are made, I will hear what you have to say on the matter.

It doesn't matter anymore.

[She sure did whiff that will save (14, rolled a 3), so she starts to show signs of wear, of coming apart at the seams the longer she talks.

So she keeps it short. He'll make her talk if he has to. Of that she's pretty damn sure.]

You knew exactly why I left, and there's no other reason I would be here now. And I was right about Kyp.

[What she'd suspected, what she'd told Wynn.]

And now they're both dead, no thanks to me. What else is there to really say?

[wynn]

Everything that matters. [ implying she's wrong about none of this mattering, for one. but it's clear that he's not looking to start that conversation now - and also that she's right, in assuming it isn't over. he does, however, look her over with a bit of a frown, asking in a slightly quieter tone: ]

Are you alright? [ he clearly knows she isn't, but the question runs deeper than that. intentions aside, kyp's reaction to her attempt remains an unknown, and the time they spent together could have taken any number of forms. hurr hurr doppelganger jokes ]

[Rose almost looks relieved at Dean's response, nodding her reply and though she's ready to move out and start searching, the conversation between Wynn and Elena captures her attention, the brunette lingering longer than was probably polite.

The moment Elena says a word in the defense of Kyp however, Rose's face darkens, hands balling into fists and without a word, she turns and walks away from the throne room, headed back for the Great Hall with her stake still clenched in her hand.]

[She swallows, eyes glancing away, missing Rose's departure.

Of all the things she expected today from Wynn (which she wasn't expecting in the first place), concern was definitely not one of them.

She figures out the subtext there easily enough, too (wisdom 21), and she's quiet when she answers, clearly uncomfortable.]

I'm the only one that hurt him, not the other way around. [She takes a moment before she adds a bit more, to clear any doubt.] He...kept his distance.

[Which is enough for anyone in this room to catch her drift if they knew what she was referring to.]

[ dean looks ready to speak up, but gets a nat 20 wisdom check to read the room, and realize that his damn mouth doesn't really belong here rn. with that, he'll duck out silently after rose, frown set in a grim line.

hunting dimitris and the mind master might be a needle in the haystack, but it's more his territory than this is. ]

[witchwoman]

[As Wynn and Elena talk, Myri hangs back, but as the conversation continues, she slowly inches forward, closing that distance. She doesn't want to interrupt, doesn't want to say or do anything to jeopardize Wynn giving Elena a chance to come back.

From what she can tell, she had little to worry about. But isn't that how it normally goes for her?

It's the mention of if Kyp hurt her or not that twists at Myri's heart. And even when Elena confirms that she wasn't harmed, it doesn't really stop the rest of her emotions from bubbling up.

Without any sort of warning, Myri closes the remainder for the distance and throws her arms around Elena, holding her tight for as long as she might allow.

The reasons for leaving, the motivations behind it... They don't matter to Myri. Elena is here. And she's helping them, helping Myri just by being there. But all of that being unspoken might make the only words she can manage to speak that much more confusing.]

Thank you.

[For being here. For not running at the sight of them. For giving Myri hope that she might return with them, to come home when this was all over.]

[She's not expecting that either, but she can't find it in herself to even try to resist the emotion that floods through her, her arms wrapping around Myri before she can stop herself, before she can let herself feel it.

She doesn't want to, on the chance that she can't go back. She can't lose everything all over again.

She doesn't deserve to be thanked. Screaming and accusations would have been easier to take.]

I'm sorry. [Not for leaving, not for all the terrible things she's done. For failing.] You weren't supposed to even have to come here.

[witchwoman]

Of course I came. [She muffles against the girl's shoulder, eyes pressed tightly closed. Whatever responsibility Elena seems to have taken on for this whole thing completely escapes Myri. In her mind, this is still her squire, her ward to protect and teach.]

I could never leave you.
