[ Meanwhile, a group of ten lands on... the roof of a building in the upscale sector of town. The half-moon lights the sky around them enough for any of them to get a good glance at what surrounds them. In the distance, moonlight plays across the river dividing the city, and the roofs of the Shadow village homes can be barely made out. But here, there are opulent old-money homes scattered here and there, and a number of commercial buildings coursing up and down the main thoroughfare. Colin doublechecks the location on the phone, which lights up his face eerily as he checks the screen, and then he slides it into his pocket, turning to nod the others. ]

We find ourselves on scenic Andres Isle, atop the historic Grand Hotel.  The very heart of the Island, ladies and gentlemen.  Advising caution seems unnecessary.

[ as they make their way towards the doors, a young man comes out who sports a very... unfortunate face. red hair, freckles, glasses, acne, buck teeth - it's a mess. cordelia's smile at seeing the doors open vanishes, lip curling back in disgust as she fails to restrain a grossed out noise, mumbling: ] Shouldn't they only hire attractive people? No one wants to see that.

[ he stares at her for a long moment, clearly utterly captivated, his mouth hanging open slightly, before he clears his throat and scratches his neck saying, "Uh, yeah no problem. You said... you said there was an emergency?" ]

Yes. [ her grateful smile falls into an expression of something like worry. which is easy because she's not sure she can carry this charade ok. using what she's got available tbh. ] Unfortunately there's been a gas leak in town. [ her nose wrinkles. (bluff 25) ] Possibly the... [ she trails off with a heavy look. the convict. clearly her delicate sensibilities don't want to dwell on it. ] We're not entirely sure. Regardless, some people need to be evacuated while it's investigated and we were wondering if it would be possible for you to open your doors to the rest of us? [ SO HOPEFUL. (diplomacy 28) ] It would only be for a few hours and we would be forever grateful. Best to keep off the streets.

[ he stares at lissa for a moment before really seeming to process what she's saying, and while he seems to believe her about the gas leak, he does look a little nervous about the unusual situation - or about getting himself in trouble.

"A gas leak? How come I haven't heard anything about it on TV?"

cordelia speaks up with her usual haughty tone: ] Uh, hello? You really think they want people to start panicking and running around when there's a crazy ex-con on the loose? [ nat 20 for the assist. between the two of them, he can't keep arguing, and he looks back and forth, mouth gaping open a bit, before he slams it shut and nods.

"Uh, right... right. Obviously. Uh, I guess - I should probably call my manager though..." ]

[alex's contribution to this is staring at the lil dude and going] Well? Chop chop.

Your manager will need to be evacuated just like anyone else. You should let me speak to him. But we should all get inside first. [ he gapes again but can't seem to figure out how to argue with that??? and so he gestures for them to follow. "Uh, right, I'll - we'll let's get inside and then we'll figure it out." ]

[ lissa flashes him a beatific smile. ]

Considering some of these hoity toity people we're bringing here are used to the lap of luxury? I'd say you'll probably hear less complaints if we can direct them to a seaweed wrap, yeah.

[and then alex steps aside for a moment to take this call. and also shoots lila a text about the situation bc she's his boo and he already knows she's over there at the comm tower.]

[ as wynn's message comes through on their phones, cordelia notices, and pipes up to lissa: ] Hey, why don't you have your new friend there show you where the massages are? [ as in GET HIM OUT OF THERE SO THEY CAN PLAY THE MESSAGE Y/Y ]

[ lissa catches what cordelia is putting down (wis 14) and puts her hand on ginger's arm, flashing him a terrifyingly seductive smile. (nat 20 charm hey) girl ain't all sweetness and rainbows. ]

You know, she may be right. [ red letter day, it will never happen again. ] Maybe you could show me some of the rooms where the townspeople can... relax.

[ hurr hurr he's so slack jawed in the face of her showering attention on him that he will just gape and allow himself to be led away stammering. nessa pulls up the message to play for everyone, her expression turning thoughtfully grim. ] Well... at least we should be out of the things' way here, presumably.

We can hope. [that said, alex doesn't feel incredibly hopeful. ALWAYS EXPECT THE WORST BASICALLY.]

Hey, I don't know about you, but I did not sign up to be monster chow on this mission! We've got this whole... defensible position thing going on. And I, for one, am not going to let anything fanged or drooly inside those gates.

At least it adds a bit of credibility to our cover story. [Not that escaped prisoner needed to be upgraded to escaped creatures that could maim you is.]

If we need someone to watch the front and actually defend our position, if trouble shows up at the door looking for a seaweed wrap... I can take that on. [Because, Zoe is actually pretty good at defensive/offensive things -- oh and she has a gun. Which would be a really easy thing to hear to signal that yep - things are approaching.]
