The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ don't think he's not going to take a moment to appreciate it either. he looks her over as she approaches, eyebrows lifting, and lets out a low whistle. ] Yeah? And what was that?

That you'd wear jeans. [Not that she seems to care, Rose's fingers brushing his side as she tries and fails to hide her smile.] So... Better or worse than you imagined?

Which part? [ he sweeps a gaze out at the crowd with a grimace of a smile, before looking back at her. ] I mean seeing you looking like this definitely makes the 'better' list.

I was talking about the Squiring part but... [That Will Save of 7 is bad enough to show him that his flattery will get him everywhere.] If I'd known all I had to do was wear a dress I'd have offered back in Andres.

Trying to get out of the party already? [Tone light and teasing.] Wynn tell you who you're being squired to yet? [The conversation she'd overheard playing on her mind and while she's not about to burden Dean with it, some of that light fades from her eyes. (WS 10).]

That honor would be mine. [Helen comes up behind the pair just in time to catch Rose's question. Poised and polite, Helen gives her new squire a brief nod before turning her attention to Rose, a much more conflicted look in her eyes as she holds the young woman's gaze. She didn't mean to be rude earlier, Rose. She's just had a long few days.]

[ sup helen. dean nods, looking to rose a bit sheepishly. ] ... What she said.

What?! [Rose gaping as she stares at Helen... Then Dean... Then Helen again. (WS 7)

No really she has nothing else cause she's so not sure how she feels about this even taking the Sam Conversation thing out of the equation.]

[There's the slightest trace of a smile in reaction to that. Rose's outbursts are at least familiar enough to be a comfort.]

Yes, we've been paired up. [She turns to Dean, eyebrows lifting.] I had assumed you would tell her.

But... [/resist the urge to spend on action point to re-roll the Crit Fail on her Will Save because it's so Canon it hurts.] You don't even like him... And you're like my.... [Mom.] Helen.

[With a wis check of 19, Helen is completely aware of what that unspoken moniker would have been before Rose corrected herself. Her will save of 14 is high enough to keep her from getting too emotional, but still low enough to cause her jaw to drop a little, leaving her speechless for the moment. She's touched that Rose would think of her like that, especially since she does think of the young woman as a daughter of sorts.

But given the actual context of the conversation, her silence is certainly up for interpretation...]

[That was an horrible Sense Motive on Rose's part (6) though coupled with her Will Save of 24, whatever it is she takes from her silence is hidden behind the mask she puts in place, back straightening and the hand that had lightly touched Dean's side now moves to take his hand.]

Well I guess that answers the squiring question anyway.

[ dean's wisdom check was a... 4. ahahaha he totally missed out on the unspoken implications. ] Maybe this Wynn guy just has a secret sense of humor.

[Dean's words seem to snap Helen out of it.]

No, it's-- Rose, I... [wow okay she needs to collect her thoughts.] Not seeing eye to eye with someone doesn't mean I don't like them. Dean and I have very different views, yes, but we're all here for the same reason in the end. Aren't we?

[She shifts her gaze to include Dean in that last part. The other thing? The mom thing? That isn't really a conversation for right here, right now.]

[Rose at least knows Helen better than to think she'd be anything other than fair where Dean is concerned (Wis 19) and she supposes, if nothing else, that's all she could really hope for.]

It's fine just, unexpected that's all. [And also, weird because Helen is who Rose turns to when she needs to talk and this, changes that.

Turning her gaze towards Dean.] Wynn's given you the best Knight you could ask for. Really.

[Perhaps for more reasons than just the fact that Helen will be fair but at the very least, it sounds like she really does mean that.]

And at least he didn't try to saddle me with some stranger. [ he grabs a carrot stick off the table to bite in half because food is a good distraction. ] You seen some of the weirdos walkin around here?

[Rose's compliment is well received, but then Dean goes and opens his damn mouth. A will save of 11 will not keep a scathing look from her features at his comment.]

Surely you're not referring to our colleagues- many of whom happen to be my very close friends?

[Rose lets out a huff of a sigh.]

Yeah, I need a drink. [Muttered. (WS 12). Clearly not pleased with how this is going, Rose bites her tongue and scans the crowd for anyone bearing drinks. She's so not ruling out taking one from somebody else.]

[Turning to find just who he means, Helen bristles further.]

Sir Koraith does happen to be a dear friend of mine. [idk we once joked that they may have even had a thing once. It could happen.] He also happens to be the leader of one of our sects, the Dragon's Tongue. Fear not, as the diplomatic sect, I highly doubt you'll have much interest in joining them, should you be promoted.

[Not when. You lost your "when" privileges when you started this shit, Winchester.]

Rose cuts Helen a look first.] Helen, he's my boyfriend - [That sure is the first time she's said that out aloud.] - and if you call him out like this in front of me I'm going to want to defend him and you - [Dean's turn, Rose's look saying more than her words, like 'I know what you're doing'.] You're better than this.

[She begins to extricate herself from between the two of them.] Feel free to keep going at it once I'm out of earshot.

[One final look between the two and she's, going, going... you get the idea.]

looks like a chastised puppy. ] Rose-- [ he calls after her, but she's already gone, leaving him awkwardly here with helen. who he looks back at with a rather chagrined expression. ] ... Alright, alright. I'm pushing it.

I have no intention of alienating myself from her, so perhaps we should establish a few ground rules. [She pinches the bridge of her nose, not even sure where to start.]

I will not tolerate your blatant disrespect of the knights and squires of our order. Whatever prejudices you might harbor need to be left at the door. Is that understood?
