Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

The Knight's new section head, Wynn, and their mentor Knight wait up at the front of the room for their approach, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides. Of course, when Wynn speaks, people still hush. It's just how he rolls.

"Please kneel."

[nathan shows up to his afterparty looking like he stole an 8 year old girl's shirt. (disguise 9) he's also reunited with his lemur once again. barry is sitting on his shoulder while he feeds him hors d'oeuvres.]

Can you believe it, Barry? We made it, you and me.

[David's still managed to clean up well for this party too (disguise 15), though he's slightly more dressed down because ... it's a Hide party. They're probably all going to end up drunk anyway, and then it won't really matter the state of their clothes.

Right now, however, he's currently distracted by the kid with a lemur at the food table, and it takes him all of two seconds before he asks:]

You have a lemur named Barry?

[Not incredulous, mind you. He's fairly certain he's seen weirder things. But still ... odd.]

Yeah! Won him in Vegas in a game of craps. His name wasn't Barry then, though. I named him after one of my mates. They've got the same beady eyes.

[There's a bit of a blink before nodding.]

I'm sure your friend must be very touched.

Yeah, I'm sure he would be if he were here. Wonder if he's lost without me, back home. He's probably cried loads.

[His eyebrows just continue to climb, still not sure what to do with ... any of this.]

You must have been very close.

Yeah, sure. We were doin' community service together.

[He nods slowly.]

That sounds rewarding.

[Or something.]

Nah, it was boring as fuck. Except for when people tried to kill us, then it was a pain in the arse.

[His brow furrows.]

They tried to kill you when you were doing community service?

[so blase, like it's no big deal] Oh yeah. Loads of times.

Huh.

[a beat.]

You must have lived in a rough neighborhood.

Didn't seem so rough until you brought all that up. I still blame the storm, that was the root of everything.

[ why is fiona at the dragon's hide party? who knows? certainly not her, although she does look hella fly (disguise 28), and there is free booze. also nathan is here, with his lemur, and she approaches the two of them looking pleased as punch. ]

No! [ she scrunches up her face ] ... At least I don't think so.

Well, you have now! It's been hard, cracking him of his burger addiction, but I think he's going to pull through. Want to pet him?

Uh, yeah, of course! [ she grins widely, holding out her hand for him to smell, or whatever it is lemurs do to make themselves comfortable with people. ]

A burger addiction, huh? [ she's definitely amused by that, patting barry reassuringly ] Happens to the best of us, Bar.

[idk what lemurs do either, so barry does ... whatever is an appropriate lemur reaction. maybe he hops from nathan's shoulder over to fiona's. SURPRISE.] Woah, mate! Guess he really likes you.

[ fiona shriek-laughs in surprise. ahahaha a lemur. she's so amused. and also hella charming, even to lemurs (handle animal 23). ] You have anything special planned for tonight, Barry? [ but she's not really expecting barry to answer, so she's obviously asking nathan and not the lemur ]

[barry starts picking at fiona's hair. apparently the answer is ... that.] Aw, he's just celebratin'. If I'm a Knight, that makes him, I don't know, half-Knight or something.

All Knight, Barry. You're all Knight. [ she pats barry's head affectionately ] This is your squiring party, then? You know, the word 'party' is sorely over-used around here. [ she looks around at the other patrons bitterly ]

Yeah! I'm a proper knight now! About time, too. I've been a squire for as long as I've been here.

[yes nathan ... that's generally how it works...]

Oh yeah? I just got promoted, too! Guess it helped that my mentor was my best friend since forever.

Yeah? Mine was a right grouchy old badger, but I think he likes me. I'll come right out and say it — he adores me. Not in a gay way, just, you know, best mates.
