Sam Winchester has not a very easy time of this world.
Most of the reasons for which, it seems, can be traced back to the fact that there was another Sam Winchester native to this dimension. One who somehow managed to alienate his brother Dean to the point where he almost murdered Sam on sight, and it's been a very slow, uphill battle ever since to get Dean to say more than two non-hostile words in a row to him.
An uphill battle that's going too slowly for Sam's taste.
Upon googling his own name and doing some research in hunter circles, he learned more and more disturbing facts - including the fact that he and Dean from this world were held responsible for the deaths of Jo & Ellen Harvelle, and Bobby Singer. Distraught by what he'd learned, he shared the facts with his new friend, Buffy, who agreed to travel with him to Chicago tracing down one of the only leads they have on finding out more about what happened, since Dean doesn't seem inclined to share.
And so off they go to Chicago - home to some of Buffy's own demons - to check out the Hunter's bar run by Robin Wood.

[ she walks past him and then uses both hands to hop up and sit on the edge of the pool table, obviously not just going to give him shit, but also... her name. ] Gayl.

[Because let's be real walking into a bar fight/attempted assault isn't generally something a nice girl wants to walk into. Not that she's probably a 'nice girl' given what just went down.
Still, it's worth nothing that anyone happy to see him might not be the best company given that Dean wanted to murder him on sight, along with these other two hunters, so he's gonna...try to be careful here? (sense motive 23).]
Are you a regular around here, Gayl?

Would you believe me if I said I didn't...mean it like that?
[HE REALLY DIDN'T!? .....Not consciously, anyway...]

I really did come here looking for information, okay. I'm dealing with...amnesia of a sort.
[He gestures toward the door, where those other two had left.]
They didn't seem too keen on talking, though.

Maybe somewhere not everyone can hear. Sam. [ she utters the name with a saucy wink, and jerks her head towards the door. ]
no subject
...doesn't. Instead he just nods, assumes Buffy is asking her own questions to the bartender in the back, and nods.
Fair enough.
He gestures for her to go ahead, that he'll follow, and he shoots Buffy a text as he's following her out the door.
Following a lead. Back soon. Everything okay?]

Makes enough sense, right? (wisdom crit fail? idk ok)]
Let's just say she can be scary when she wants to be.
[So yeah, it's less about being sweet and more about not wanting her to kick anyone's ass looking for him.]

When it comes to her? I'd probably be the one protecting you.
[Follows after her casually. So trusting. Very pleased with this turn of events. Clearly, nothing could possibly go wrong with splitting the party over even greater distance.]

You know, you're looking pretty spry for a dead guy.

Maybe some people just wish it were true. Maybe I didn't die at all?

Just like Sam would want the same for himself.]
He would have had a good reason.
[Just like he might have a good reason for not telling him what he wanted to know.
That hadn't stopped him from coming here, though.]

That sort of smacks of a sad story, Sam.

[Tries to act like it doesn't bother him. He's probably pretty transparent. (will save 14).]
But he won't, so here I am.

He's not playing with a full deck. The cards were sort of stacked against him. He was never going to understand. [ she turns around and snakes either arm through the rungs of the ladder above her head, arching her back slightly as she watches him, her hips undulating ever-so-slightly, just enough to make the posture incredibly alluring. ] Tell me, Sam. Do you really think any version of you is capable of hurting him the way he claims to have been hurt by you?

This is all starting to get...pretty specific. There's a whole lot here he hasn't brought up, and he'd have to be an idiot not to notice (wisdom...nat 20. of course.)
Apparently she's also...super fucking distracting and getting what he needs is more important than a million warning signs (will save crit fail. i couldn't make this shit up).]
I think something big happened. We've had our differences and our disagreements, but this is something else.
