[Fortunately for Sam, this time around, when Dean arrives at the Castle? Sam hears about it.

He's made friends since back then, ones that know their relationship, and know that he would want to know. And they're right, because he's been waiting for this awhile, wants to know what took his brother so damn long to come home, wants to know if he'd being avoided on purpose or...no, it's probably on purpose.

Well, that was going to come to an end in a hurry. He doesn't particularly want this conversation, because it'll probably be uncomfortable and angry and horrible, but it has to happen. He can't sit on any of this forever.

Not when he's not the only one who knows.

So that afternoon, Dean will hear a rather...forceful knock on his door, following quickly by a voice.]

Dean, it's me. Let me in.

[Because he's not going away. Sorry, bro.]

[ he watches him for a long moment, before answering ] You can say that again.

When do you want to go?

[Why yes, Dean, he's insinuating they go together. No, he's not giving you an option. Oops?]

After whatever this thing is Rose got called back for, I suppose.

[familybusiness]

[A beat, before...]

How much does she know, Dean?

[He knows it has to be a lot.]

[ he stares for a moment, deciding what to say ] ... She knows about what I went through. At least the Cliff's Notes. She doesn't need to hear every gruesome detail.




She knows about you. Or him.

[familybusiness]

[He nods slowly.]

I just don't want to say anything that will make things worse. I freak her out enough already. And there are things about me I can't change.

[Like seeing demons, what happened to him as a baby, his abilities. Even if he avoids every other pitfall, those things are still there.]

What exactly are you plannin' on telling her?

[familybusiness]

I don't know, Dean. If she knows, she might bring it up. Hell, the last time I talked to her, she was googling herself, and if that doesn't have something to do with me I'll be shocked.

And what if I suddenly start having visions again or something?

[likedillinger]

What do you mean, she was googling herself?

[familybusiness]

She was trying to do research on herself. [A beat.] Like I did.

[likedillinger]

Did she find something?

[familybusiness]

[He shakes his head.]

She asked me to help her look up some stuff about being 'shadowkissed,' but I came up empty there, too. And believe me, I looked. I'm still looking.

[From time to time, when he thinks of something else he can search.]

It seemed important.

[likedillinger]

It is.

But far as I can tell, it's not something that exists in this world outside of her.

[familybusiness]

It's not.

[He sounds pretty damn confident. Thanks nat 20 research check.]

At this point I'm hoping to maybe find someone else with it that came or might someday come through the Veil.. It's pretty damn unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

[ he finally sits again, on the edge of the bed, beer bottle in hand. ]



You put a lot of thought into this. [ there's a hint of surprise there. pleasant surprise. ]

[familybusiness]

[Sam looks over briefly, then back down at the floor.]

She's important to you, Dean. Why wouldn't I want to help?

Because all I've done is give you reasons not to since you showed up here.

[familybusiness]

You had every reason to be careful.

[He's already forgiven you, bro.]

Now that I know what happened, I know why you did what you did. I probably would have done the same, if our roles were reversed.

Doesn't change the fact that I made you deal with this shit on your own all this time.

[familybusiness]

And it's not something you need to beat yourself up over.

[He levels a serious look at him.]

What matters to me is that you're still here, and that now I don't have to. We don't have to.

Literally nothing about any of this is easy. I know that.

[He finishes off his beer before he balances it by the neck between his two fingers.]

But forgiving you is the easiest part. I did it awhile ago. Not sure I was ever even really mad in the first place.

[Just really fucking confused and frustrated.]

Yeah, well things are a little more complicated on my end.

[He can't look at him now, because even though he gets it, it still hurts.]
