[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.  This takes place after the Knights have returned from rescuing Gar in New York City, but before the planned Keijen Blade concert at the beginning of 2017.

[ tracking rafael is a process that involves delving into anything that can be found about the black scourge - and the many enemies that he's made along the way. hiro and isabella did their job well, however, and it hasn't been exactly easy to find any trails to follow.

the job has taken them to italy itself, breaking into the homes and businesses of those connected to his victims, those who might have received an invitation to the auction designed to put the black scourge up on the block.

right now, they're parked a block away from a government official's house, the fourth in a string that they've 'visited' just in the past week, thus far to no avail. ]

Mario Ametti. Fiscally and socially conservative to the extreme. [ jack flips to the next page on the tablet in his hand, that shows a photograph of the heavily bearded middle aged man ] Went on record with the local paper as proposing that all Shadow immigrants should be jailed until they've been vetted for entrance into free society. Charming.

Isn't it weird how "socially conservative" really just means a stuffy racist?

[ Rafael would appreciate that kind of comment. She doesn't suspect Jack does. Still, she diverts her attention from the window she's been trying to x-ray through with her mind to look over the photo. ]

[ he doesn't laugh, but his lips twist in a humorless smirk ] People will always find a way to euphemize their dark sides and make them sound acceptable.

Ametti was a strong supporter of every step taken by Giacomo Finelli, a Senator who was assassinated six years ago.

You know, if they weren't neo-nazis, it might just be inspiring. Resolving yourself against the killer of an old friend.

[ The hard edge of her voice makes it sound like she's

Like, ok, Finnick's not objectively dead, and Rafael's not dead (yet), but revenge is looking pretty good and the longer he's gone the tinier that voice of reason in her head gets. ]

He must have heard something. A guy like that would be on the top of the invite list for a Black Scourge murder party.

Precisely what we're hoping for. [ he lets the other comment slide, with simply a bit of a side-eye ] I think it likely that any invitation might have been sent the old-fashioned way, as it were, considering the danger of any sort of digital information being readily hacked. Of course, it may be disguised or encoded in some fashion.

[slay]

So, stealthy until we find it. Got it. [ She turns to peer at him. ] I'm not exactly a cryptographer, you know.

[dragonsclaw]

I can manage, but even if we can bring it back to headquarters, no doubt one of ours can decipher it.

[slay]

Yeah, I bet Gar won't have to look twice.

[ She nods resolutely, skimming straight across any discomfort there might be in acknowledging that Gar is with them and Rafael is not. ]

So how do we want to do this? No invisibility this time, but if we can come in from the roof, I bet security's lighter on the upper floors.

[chessing]

And hopefully, the master bedroom. The most likely place beside the study for us to find what we're looking for.

Unfortunately, the latter is likely to be located below...

And me without my concrete drill. That's a thing, right? [ she crinkles her nose like construction equipment ?? ? who cares. ] We should have brought Myri.

We'll have to settle for the old fashioned way.

[slay]

Okay, but just so we're on the same page, I suck at stealthy.

[ which means she's gonna punch heads. ]

[chessing]

It's still worth trying. But if things go sour, aim to disable.

[slay]

[ with enough sarcasm in it to be slightly this side of too-sharp. ]

Sir, yes sir.

Buffy. [ the word has a gentle note of warning in it, as he glances over at her. it doesn't sound like he's chastising her, at least, but it's clear that for all his sympathy towards her situation, he also doesn't enjoy the implications of her words ] I hope you know why I'm here.

[slay]

Because Wynn asked you to be? [ She shakes her head, curt enough to show she wants to End This Suffering aka the conversation. ] I know how this works.

[chessing]

For you. I asked Wynn to be the one to do this, and asked to be able to do so with you. [ he reaches for the handle, his hand pausing there ] As you might imagine, I can certainly understand some of what you're facing.

But even if I couldn't, I would still do the same. [ without waiting for her response, he opens the door, and gets out ]

[slay]

[ have you ever been in just such a bad mood that being around decent people doing decent things is just infuriating because you want to hate the world and everyone in it?




buffy gets out of the car after him, sulking silently. it hadn't occurred to her, honestly. a part of her wants to claim that it's guilt—that they risked their lives to bring the both of them back, and only retrieved gar. but that's absurd. they both care about gar. it shouldn't be—

but it is like that. at least somewhat. she trudges after him. ]

[dragonsclaw]

[ he's quiet now as they move up the block, and nods to communicate that they should cut across the swath of green that makes up a neighbor's yard. ]

[slay]

[ rolling her eyes only slightly because like OBVIOUSLY~ but also she just doesn't like to be cooperative after being deservedly bossed around, she treks into the neighbors yard and quiets, keeping her eyes peeled.

[ despite buffy talking about sucking at stealth, it's jack who just crit failed his hide check. maybe that will help salve over that feeling of guilt, buff. or maybe it will just suck royally, because he walks right past what buffy sees is a security camera attached to the roof up there, oblivious to it. ]

[slay]

[ goddamMIT jack!!

she slips around the long way and waves him towards her, out of the line of the security camera and (hopefully) in a path that will help him avoid any others. ]

[dragonsclaw]

[ confused, he follows her direction, glancing back and finally spotting the camera for himself, with a sheepish grimace. he speaks in a low voice when he draws near: ] ... We'll need to hurry.

[slay]

[ dryly, ] You don't say.

[ but she does make an effort to hurry, beelining for the nearest point of egress she can spot with the shittiest spot check she can roll without critfailing (24). ]

[ there's a side door - one that jack notices as well, and they both head towards it rapidly. he raises his wrist watch, decompresses something, and a piece of it fires out into the lock, which clicks immediately open (disable device nat 20) ]
