[ mark finds him in the rec room, and actually hesitates in the threshold of the room, doing the indecision dance as he steps in, changes his mind, steps back out, looks back in, stares for awhile at the back of spike's head, and then finally squares his shoulders and comes in. i'm sure spike heard all those fancy footsteps, he's a fucking vampire. ]

Hey. [ s-so casual. ]

[Spike doesn't look up.] No, don't stop, your tap dance routine was almost perfect.

... Sorry. [ it seems a weird thing to apologize for but he sounds pretty intent on doing it anyway. ] How... [ no he can't even finish lol ]

[Spike pauses the television show and gives him an annoyed look. Apparently absence and torture do not make the heart grow fonder. Or at least, not more patient.]

I'm sorry. [ he blurts it out, and it's not sarcastic - it's... a genuine apology, actually, but it seems very hard for him to say for some reason ] About what happened. I--

Unless you're allied with Kyp and Dimitris, and I haven't entirely ruled that out, mind, you've got nothing to be sorry for.

[Who's joking? But no, if Spike seriously suspected Mark had turned traitor (again) he would be a lot more violent about it. He rolls his eyes.]

[ he rubs the back of his neck ] For what happened to you. For not-- catching them before they could do it.

Yeah, cause you were the one I thought'd catch on. [He rolls his eyes.] The real me'd punch you if you questioned my identity. Can't imagine fake me'd taken it much differently.

I do remember. [At the time, Spike hadn't felt much more inclined to tear out the man's throat than he did for anyone else. That was then.] What do you think we ought to've done? Shot him from the air ducts?

Honestly? I wouldn't say no.

Yeah, well. You'd probably have missed and shot me instead. [He's just saying this team has a friendly fire problem.] Look, it's not like we can go back. Does no bloody good to think about what we could've done when we'll get the chance to kill him again in the future.

I just... [ he frowns, frustrated ] I just wanted you to know I won't miss that opportunity again.

Being tortured? [He glances over at Mark and raises an eyebrow like WHY ARE YOU EVEN ASKING ABOUT THIS.] ...painful.

I meant the set-up they've got there.

I didn't see much of it besides the prison area. But it was bad. Loads of Shadowkind trapped their, tortured presumably for some sort of reason besides sadism, but... [He shudders.] Hard to see what it might be.

Could you tell where the prison was?

[He squints, thinking back (wis 11).] Not sure. Might be able to find it again.

I can't imagine it's somewhere most people know about.
