[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of the first half of the month. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.
You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]
On this log:
Drax @ the desk
Kate Bishop @ the desk

Kate
But other than the scraps of absurdism it feels like an incredible waste of time and resources that she resents and chafes against, and when her laptop and whatever books she's brought lose their allure after too many hours of stillness she sometimes starts doing yoga on top of the desk in between (and while) answering the phone. ]
sneak attack.
[ yep. ]
[ as if that wasn't enough, he gets the fright of his life when he actually looks up and sees the spitting bloody image of morgana before him. ]
[ fortunately, the absolute mess of their relationship is one of the key things he lost to the veil when he first came through, so despite a strong sense that he knows her (a residual mixture of fondness, sadness, and aversion) he doesn't immediately draw the pistol he's carrying. excalibur, of course, though the real thing is not currently on his hip. swords, it turns out, are somewhat difficult to get through customs. ]
[ so instead he just approaches awkwardly, one hand braced on the desk, sandy hair falling into his eyes as he's forgotten to cut it lately and hasn't had merlin around to do it for him. ]
Er. Hello.
aaaaaaaaa
When he comes up to the desk she hangs up without so much as a goodbye, looks up at him, and smiles. There's no recognition in her expression, but he's probably been here long enough to know that may not mean anything. Jeans and Converse might be a little more of a clue, but of course those are hidden under the table; above it she wears a loose sweater, deep purple with a wide neck that's threatening to drift off one shoulder. Her hair is down (and doesn't look at all like it's been styled by by Helena Bonham-Carter), and she tucks it back behind an ear on one side with a gesture, earrings silver and dangly. ]
Hi. Can I help you?
no subject
Perhaps. What's your name?
no subject
look i will never ever ever ever care if you default me tbh
[ is the absent reply — and is that disappointment on his face? relief? perhaps a mix of both. he doesn't give his family name: he's learned better. ]
You remind me very much of someone I knew once, Kate. I don't mean to pry, but — are you of a world beyond the veil?
<3
I am. I've been here about a year. Who do I remind you of? You're the second person here to look at me strangely and say that.
no subject
[ though the more she says the vaguer he gets, because he doesn't think this is morgana. not even a morgana with no memories: simply another woman entirely. ]
You could be twins, and your speech is similar.
[ ireland, manhattan, it's whatever right? he crooks his mouth, self-deprecating. ]
But no, I'm definitely mistaken.
no subject
Her smile tilts a little further at his reply, and there's a brief flash of annoyance in her eyes and tightness in her jaw that probably are not going to help make this situation less weird for him. ]
Wynn was vague, too. You know the more you dodge the more I am determined to find out.
no subject
[ he leans a gloved hand on the desk. ]
People often arrive here with little or no memories of their home lives, and my memories of her are somewhat blurry. So it's my mistake. Are you a squire?
[ hope your determination just grew, kate, because arthur isn't just dodging, now, he's outright changing the subject. ]
no subject
And yes, her determination definitely just grew. The memories thing is real, she knows, but she finds it difficult to believe he doesn't know plenty more than he's willing to say. So she gives him a long look made even more unimpressed by the cant of her head and then finally nods. ]
Yes, I am. You?
no subject
[ he's not really smug about it, because honestly, it felt more like a restoration to the natural order of things. he'd graduated squiredom in Camelot years ago after all. ]
[ he leans both elbows on the desk, deciding she doesn't really need to be doing her duties. it's going to be much more interesting talking to him, obviously. ]
So who's mentoring you?
no subject
The recognition thing definitely rubs her the wrong way a bit but it's an irritation that's surmountable and she isn't actually displeased when he leans on the desk, because it is almost certainly going to be much more interesting talking to him. It's a low bar. ]
Alanna. Are you just back from a mission? I don't think I've seen you around since I got here.
