[Yes! This is what she's thinking! Not so much the last part because she's never encountered a god so she wouldn't really know, but it's sound logic to her.]

I just ... I don't know how to convince him of that. Because he became what he is after he was a paladin for a long time. And while he hasn't lost his blessing yet, he's convinced it's because he's fighting his new nature and not because they don't care.

[She sighs.]

He's a good man, and I want to help him do better, but in order to do that he can't treat the beast like something else. He needs to acknowledge that it's a part of him too, and he's worried that if he does that, he'll lose his blessings. But if he doesn't learn to deal with this, he'll lose control and he will kill someone innocent and definitely lose his blessings and ... I'm pretty sure if that happens it will kill him.

[And she wants to help that not happen, but there's only so much she can do without Lan meeting her halfway.]

I figured if there was something in a book or ... someone's own experience that might help, but I haven't really found anything yet.

Oh, sweetie. [she reaches a hand over to touch cora's.] This is a crisis of his faith. No one else's experience is gonna get him out of that hole, because even if there were two hundred werewolf paladins out there with their own words of wisdom, it doesn't explain why he's suffering. If you want my opinion, it sounds like he's angrier at his god than he is at the monster.

That doesn't change the fact that the monster is the thing that will destroy him in the end. I just want to make sure he doesn't hurt anyone, but accepting the wolf as part of him is the only way I know how.

[she pulls back a bit.] I wish I could help, but it sounds like something you have more experience with than me... Y'know, being a werewolf and all. But maybe I can talk to him. Cleric to Paladin.

[While she'd like to think that may help, Lan is old and stubborn and he might take more offense to the fact that Cora talked to her about him than he will actually listen. It's not that she doesn't think he can be reached, but she's not sure hearing that people have been talking about him behind his back will help, even when that isn't what this is.

Exactly.]

I don't know. I mean - I think it might help, but ... he's pretty sensitive about this. He's been keeping it a secret from most of the castle for half a century, and it recently came out in a pretty explosive way. I don't know how he'll take it.

Men. [she blows a lock of hair out of her face.] I hope he figures it out soon. It's just not healthy to repress a huge part of yourself like that, regardless of how dangerous it is. It'll just make him bitter. And no one wants a bitter Paladin.

[There's a small smirk at that. There's a part of her that almost wants to sic Paige on Lan, just to see what he'll do, but she knows it's for the best right now now to. She'll just try and teach him through Liam, if he's actually paying attention.]

No, they don't. And I agree. Repressing the wolf only really makes it harder to gain control in the end. I know from experience.

[Though her repression was forced on her by circumstance, rather than a personal choice, but the same rules apply.]

It's because you're young. [She plants her elbow on the table and sets her chin in her hand.] The only thing more stubborn than a man sometimes is an old man, who doesn't wanna listen to these young pups- no pun intended- and their hardships, because back in his day he had to walk eighteen miles in the snow to find a safe place to transform and fought armies of... I don't know. Sparkly vampires. Single-handedly. Eventually, he has to realize you know what you're talking about.

[She shrugs.] Or you could take up being a Paladin, yourself. Not that I'd recommend that to someone who wants to prove a point, but with all these books... You might find your calling.

[She wouldn't deny she hadn't considered it once or twice. The problem is, she would be doing it just to prove a point, and she had too much respect for people who actually did believe to try and make a mockery of it like that.

Her hand drifts over one of the books for a moment before shaking her head.]

I don't have that kind of faith.

[But maybe she could find someone who did. Just because Wynn couldn't find one didn't mean one might not still be other there.]

But I'll just have to keep wearing him down until he sees it my way.

[She's half kidding. But it's barely half, it's actually probably closer to twenty-five percent kidding.]

Maybe not now, but... [she shakes her head, letting the thought fall to the wayside. the girl will do as she will and no one can pick her destiny for her.]

I think it's wonderful that he has someone like you to believe in him. Sometimes that's enough.

[True. She wouldn't rule it out if somehow she happens to find herself on that path, but for right now, it's not something she has planned.]

I hope so. From what I've read about his gods, they're ... practically made for wolves.

Well, see, there you go. [She huffs again.] It's just getting him to believe it, the fool.

[She gathers up her books and gives her a wink.] I'm Paige, by the way. If you ever need any help with any of this, just give me a ring, okay? I'm from Alabama. The only type of man we have there are stubborn ones.

[She laughs a bit at that before nodding.]

Cora. And thank you.

[Both for not judging Lan for what he is and for at least managing to talk her through it a little.]

I'll keep that in mind.

[Her smile widens a bit at the thank you, and adds, as if by explanation for her tolerance:] People come in all sorts. It doesn't make them any less people.

[She backs away a bit, nodding.] Good luck, Cora.

[She nods once in agreement, and with that she'll let her go, turning her attention back to her book again.]
