Once Alec is settled, I'll go out there myself and pay him a visit so that I can properly yell, but for right now I'm letting him have his space.

You know how he can be, dear. Though it is hard to see him leave so abruptly.

[Considering he's the only one she would feel comfortable telling about the wedding and the whole debacle with Des? Yeah she's missing him pretty fierce.]

[She shakes his head.]

It's what he does. Something upsets his delicate balance of the universe and he bails.

[She knows it's more complicated than that. The first time he did this his dad and his sister were dead, and she didn't let him go alone because she had nothing left for her in New York and it seemed like a good idea at the time. This time she has roots, things and people holding her down, and while those are good things, she can't help but feel like she should be following him again, even if she can't.

So she resorts to trivializing it, because maybe if she acts like it's not such a big deal, then it won't be.]

I know it isn't easy, dear- believe me. He'll be back in his own time. In the meantime- I'm always here if you want to talk. About him or anything else, really.

[There's a pause as she swallows hard, not entirely sure how to approach it but deciding that the best way to do this is in her usual blunt fashion.]

Just ... far be it from me to judge, given some ... questionable choices I've made in this particular department.

[Especially as of late.]

[Helen's mouth drops in wordless confusion for a solid ten seconds as she tries to process what's been said.]

[are you catching her drift? Picking up what she's putting down? She knows that it's uncomfortable but if she needs to have a Talk with Helen (which she shouldn't) then she wants to know now.]

Quite the opposite. I hardly know him, but I'm hoping to change that in the near future.

[Thankfully Malina's on wisdom roll is just high enough not read the wrong way into that particular statement either, and she relaxes some.]

Good. [She will just push that thought as far away as possible.] I think we should take a trip to New York some time in the coming months. Surprise our dear friend and try to have a good time.

I think that sounds like an excellent idea.
