[I imagine 18 would do it? Helen steps closer and takes a look at the books he's got and sees a bit of his notes. Her knowledge arcane lore check of 20 total has her familiar enough with the study to piece some of it together.]

Would you mind if I-? [She gestures to his notebook, not snatching it up but obviously very curious.]

[Yeah, that is definitely enough!

He stares at her for a moment, almost like he's shocked that she would be interested in what he had written. He blanks his face quickly, shaking his head that no, he wouldn't mind, avoiding her eyes as she begins to read.]

I-It's not really that good, it's just... just some theories I've been putting together. [Actually, it's really good. Like really, really good (craft writing 29). It's theories on how the Weave and Shadow Weave are connected, along with Divine Magic both good and bad, how they are all balanced, how without one the other would be out of control. While it is definitely far from finished, it is also clear, concise, and quite clever. Basically boy has brains.]

without warning (move silently nat 20), fiona's suddenly on jordan's back, jumping up to wrap her arms around his neck. yeah, sure she can fly, but piggy-back rides are still more fun (jump 18; climb 11). ] Jordan!! [ she says in a voice much too loud for a library, scrambling to get her knees up around his waist.

but as soon as she steadies herself against him, fully forcing her embrace upon him, her voice calms almost instantly, and she coolly adds: ] Hey. What's up?

[He was so far from expecting that, especially here in the quiet sanctuary of the library. He freezes, hands flying up and shaking, mouth dropping open in a loud, high-pitched scream that lasts a little longer than it should. He looks absolutely petrified, frozen in shock, eyes wide and hands still up. His chest is heaving in shaky, deep breaths, and he tries to form words, but is unable to speak just yet, and all that comes out is a squeak. (Will Save: Crit Fail. You're welcome.)]

[Helen's only managed to read about two sentences when Fiona comes barreling in. Her eyes go wide, body shifting into a more defensive stance before she realizes that the two seem to know each other.]

Hello, there.

[She may be trying to hold back a smile for Jordan's sake.]

[ jordan's reaction was not unexpected to fiona, so she's just gripping his shoulders tightly, grinning from ear to ear. sorry not sorry tiny baby brother.

and then she acknowledges helen without giving up her perch. ] Hey. I'm Fiona! [ the most awesome person in the world, obviously ]

[With a much better WS (24, thank you very much) he's able to breathe again, head leaning forward as he collects himself. At Fiona's perky introduction he can't help but to chuckle, not able to stay mad at her. He straightens up, boosting her up a little higher so her knees aren't digging into his kidneys, not even trying to get her off his back as he says-] You know, you really don't have to scare me every opportunity that you get.

Fiona, this is Helen. Helen, this is my sister Fiona. [Despite the fact that they look absolutely nothing alike. At all. Whereas Fiona is very obviously a Drow, Jordan is very obviously not, but that doesn't seem to phase either of them. And there is an obvious difference in his demeanor now that Fiona has arrived, a lightness that comes into his expression that was not there a moment ago.]

[Helen doesn't think its odd at all for brother and sister to look so different. She's seen stranger things.]

Lovely to meet you, Fiona. Jordan- I must say, from what I can tell, this is quite good. [So good in fact that she takes a seat and continues to read.]

[He gets a sheepish look on his face, scratching the back of his head uncomfortably at the compliment. He watches her continue to read with a mix of worry and pride.]

Hey, th-thanks Helen. That means a lot to me, coming from you. [He turns his head to Fiona, smiling-] So, what's up with you Fiona?

Nothin'. [ she actually jumps down from jordan's back, moving over to the papers helen is inspecting ] What have you come up with that's new?

Nothing really too much, honestly. I'm more just refining the notes I have already. [Blah blah blah insert magic talk here blah blah Knowledge: Spellcraft 22.]

[Helen will just continue to read while she listens to the siblings chat. Carry on- she's very engrossed in this for now.]

[Yeah, Jordan is still watching Helen as she continues to read, worrying his bottom lip nervously, obviously waiting to hear what she has to say about the material. He kinda looks like he's expecting some kind of criticism or something along those lines.]

[She glances up after a few more minutes of reading.]

Jordan, this is fascinating work. You're really onto something here. I'd love to take a look at the full draft once you're finished.

[He actually looks kinda surprised at that compliment, mouth dropping open as he fumbles for a response.] R-really? You don't think it's a waste of time?

Heavens, no. I think you're really onto something. A bit of polishing and I have no doubt we can see it published.

Published?? I-I never thought about being published before. [He's honestly just staring at her like she's either insane, or has just given him the best news ever. Maybe a bit of both...]

It can be a bit complicated, but once you've got all your thoughts on the page, I can work with you to polish it up and find the right academic journals to submit to.

You honestly think that people would be interested in reading about this stuff? [He actually looks like he is starting to get excited about the idea of his work getting out there.]

Oh, yes. There's an audience for nearly any academic study. And your work will grab the attention of a lot of people. Trust me. [She knows a few of them personally and will hand deliver it to them if she must.] You're much more talented than you realize.

[He gives her a grateful look, smile growing more confident at her words. After a moment it falls just a bit, hand coming up to scratch the back of his head.] Would I have to uh... have a degree to be published in an academic journal? Isn't that a requirement?

Usually, but I think your work speaks for itself.

[Her last reassurance seems to sink in, finally having a good effect on his conscience. His smile is relieved, a tinge of hope shining through his self-doubt.]

Thanks Helen. I... you have no idea how much I appreciate that. [He sounds almost like he's never received any kind of encouragement or praise before, the look in his eyes a bit like that of a young boy.]

[She can see it, can see that he's never really believed in himself- at least not when it comes to this. But she means every word of what she's said.]

Of course. [There's warmth in her tone as she smiles and nods.] Until then, keep up the good work.
