You've dealt with werewolves? Bullshit, really? [ He doesn't mean to sound disparaging but no, seriously, he's shocked. ]

So you were headhunted? Nice, nice. And how's that working out for you?

Werewolves are kind of my specialty. Pre and post Veil, actually. But yeah- this place is great. It's got a little bit of something for everyone.

[ Matt watches Stiles a bit, a sort of halfway smile on his face. ] You're pretty confident aren't you, kid?

[ He's almost envious at that. When he was younger it was all bravado and trying to cover up the fact he had no fucking clue what he was doing. ]

[Honestly, a lot of it is just a cover up for his insecurities, but Stiles is a great liar so he can sell it really well when he needs to.]

I guess? I mean I'm freshly promoted into being a real Knight. Kinda hard not to feel like a badass.

Yeah well being a Knight should make anybody's parents proud, right?

[ And maybe in part that's why Matt wants to do this. He'd love to make his parents proud, even if he doesn't talk to them now. ]

Sure. If you have parents here that you remember, I guess. [it's a little bit of a sore spot for him. Realizing that he had forgotten his father completely had really freaked Stiles out before.]

[ ouch. he sort of... forgets the whole veil thing sometimes. ]

If it's any consolation, man, I wish I could forget mine sometimes. [ As soon as he says that he feels guilty. He doesn't really mean it. His family life had a lot to hate, but he'd never wish them away. Apart from that time he just did a bit. ]

[He gives a little snort.]

I remember my mom, but... she died when I was younger. I didn't really think about my dad until someone I knew on the other side of the Veil brought him up and I realized I didn't remember anything about him. It sort of freaks me out. Just knowing that there's this whole chunk of my life that's gone.

You mind me asking what happened? That's if you can remember it I suppose. If I'm intruding then don't feel like you can't tell me to piss off.

She got sick. [He says, glancing down and rubbing the back of his neck.] Frontotemporal dementia? Not that I expect you to have heard of it. It's kind of like Alzheimer's on speed.

I'm sorry man, that must have been rough. [ He can't imagine how awful it would have been without his mother growing up, his dad was bad enough as it was. ]

But hey, not done so badly for yourself.

Yeah, this place is cool. And the stuff with my mom is years ago. I don't even remember my dad. So most of the time, it's not even something I think about.

How old are you anyway? [ He's aware he's been calling him kid, but he doesn't actually know much else past a vague teenagery ballpark, or at least that's what he assumes. ]

What, 16, 17?

Sixteen. Well- I mean as best I can figure. Falling through a Veil and forgetting half your life makes it kind of complicated.

Yeah? Well maybe you're like forty and just used to use some really hot shit face cream.

What? It could happen.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I don't want to be the forty year old virgin. I've seen that movie. I'm not interested.

Awww, are you a virgin? [ he grins and nudges him by the elbow, apparently that's delightful. ]

[He gives a shrug, glancing away, like he's trying not to seem embarrassed when he kind of is.]

Maybe.

[ Apparently that makes Matt DELIGHTED. He's grinning ear to ear and reaches over wrapping an arm around his shoulders. ]

Well don't you worry. I'll show you the ways of the world.

[Rolling his eyes, Stiles shrugs his shoulders to try to step out of the embrace.]

Uh, that's my job okay? Official mentor to you. Not the other way around.

Yeah in the whole knight thing, not in knowing what to do with what's between your legs.

I'm pretty sure this counts as workplace harassment. [He grumbles, embarrassed.]

I think if I shoved my hand down your jeans you might have a case, but trust me I'm not about to do that.

This is not at all how I wanted our first mentor-squire conversation to go, dude.
