There's nothing inherently villainous in the science of it. Villainy implies motivation, and science exists for its own sake. Imagine if an evil sorcerer threatened a city with his spells. Would the technology seem so villainous if it were used to shut him down?

Well, no, but it's the whole principle of the idea of getting rid of one or the other that's whack. Why not let both co-exist? Zero's managed to make it into an artform.
