[ dean continues to look slightly thrown off balance by sam's sudden appearance, and the domestic atmosphere, but he takes the glass because what else is he gonna do, looking between them like maybe the christmas miracle is that rose actually sam instead of shanking him in an alley. ] You know how to make eggnog?

[Rose noticeably holds her breath as Sam appears, watching Dean closely as if to gauge whether she'd made the right call or not. She'd figured, at worst, he'd yell a bunch and then it would be like a 'real family Christmas' but if it was going to be that, she wanted to be ready for it.

She gets distracted however by what's in Sam's hands, lines creasing her brow and nose wrinkling as she hesitantly takes one.]

Eggnog? [Sideeyeing the fuck out of Sam and the stuff in her cup.] Do I want to drink this? [An aside to Dean.]

I know how to spike the store-bought stuff?

[You didn't...really think he made it from scratch, do you? Please.

Also, off-balance is better than mad. He'll take it.]

It's good. Also, not poison. Promise. [A beat.] Well...not anymore than alcohol usually is.

Fair enough. [ with that, he'll down some gladly, before looking around suspiciously ] No other surprises planning to jump out of the woodwork, right?

[The corner of Sam's mouth perks up.]

[And then he heads to the front door, pulling it open to let in whoever's ringing the bell.]

[thanks for answering the door, Sam. Your reward is Helen's pretty smile right before she shoves a giant stack of presents at you to help her carry in.]

[His reflex save of 21 means he doesn't drop presents all over the floor yay. I guess it helps to have a huge ass wingspan. He follows after her before heading over to the bare tree and setting the presents down on the floor beside it.]

Helen. [ lmao he sounds surprised. and a little baffled. he still wasn't sure you liked him, let alone wanted to spend the holidays with him. ] You helped with all this, huh?

[And Rose just looks visibly relieved and equally pleased that the words 'what the fuck' didn't come out of his mouth. Also that Helen is here.]

Well, of course I did. You didn't think Rose tripped over this little gem of a home, do you? [If anyone knows the right neighborhoods to find a place like this to rent out? It's Helen. She sets down the rest of the massive amount of presents she brought next to the stack she had pawned off on Sam, then turns back towards the three of them smiles- clearly in good spirits. So much so, in fact that she greets Rose with a quick hug and a kiss to her cheek. The boys are safe... for now.]

I hope I didn't miss too much. I got a bit caught up in the celebrations back at the castle.

Naw, they just got here a couple minutes ago.

[Sam was here first, prepping some stuff. Speaking of which...]

Want some eggnog?

Oh, yes please, dear. [Slipping so easily into mom speak. Not even trying to stop it.] Just a little kick, mind you. Nothing too strong.

[She casts a small, amused look Dean's way. She's not about to try to go drink for drink with him again.]

[And as Rose hugs Helen back she drops an;] I saw. [On her. For reasons.

I know what you did at the Christmas party reasons, Rose beaming as she pulls back and throws a sideways look at Dean. Just making sure he's still breathing. As you do.]

Just as long as no one expects me to go door to door caroling.

[Rose's face? What is this caroling that you speak of?!]

Just the tree and hanging up a few things. [She moves closer to Dean, just a quiet moment to whisper;] This okay?

Door to door? Heavens, no. Now... If you felt compelled to join me for a few verses of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, I would say no...

I'm telling you right now, you don't want that. Trust me.

[As he disappears briefly into the kitchen before returning with another glass of eggnog.]

[ dean's expression twists just a little bit at the suggestion of song ] Maybe we could try to keep the religious mumbo jumbo out of things.

Maybe Sam can break out some Taylor again. [Subject change? Maybe. Probably seeing as Rose is now drinking deeply from her cup of eggnog.]

At the very least, we need a bit of Rudolph. [She's not about to try to talk to him about 'religious mumbo jumbo'. Christmas carols are just a part of the tradition, though.]

So, how about we get to work on these decorations?

He might come close, but we'll at least need one for the star.
