The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.

Finnick. [He will take her hand and kiss it like a gentleman. :3 ] But you learned that earlier tonight, I guess.

[She watches him as he takes her hand and kisses it. It's not an unusual experience to her, just a less common one as of late.] I actually wasn't in attendance for your squiring ceremony, so this is the first I've gotten to see of you. Quite a first impression, I must say.

You weren't missing much. [Besides him boggling his pledge, a moment in time best left forgotten.] It's a shame my first impression to you was under such circumstances. [SIDEEYE TO LAN.]

[technophobic]

Perhaps he'll make the second count. [He sounds doubtful of that however. And shoves past you both without a goodbye. TO THE BOOZE.]

[She watches him go, not sad to see him leave. A smile still graces her lips when she turns back to Finnick.] Shall we start over? I'll give you a chance to make a real first impression.

[She motions to herself] I'm Francesca. [and then to him.] You're Finnick. And I'd let you kiss my hand again, but I suppose it's unnecessary. [Although she does sound slightly disappointed. She's a sucker for the chivalry.]

So what brings you to our castle, Finnick?

I could if you want. [He grins, but doesn't reach for it.]

[As she asks her question, his smile starts to fade.] I came from -- what do they call it? The mist? The shadows? I didn't know where else to go. And this ... it's something I can do. I know that I can. I feel good about it.

[socialgraces]

I came from the mist, too, though it was quite a while ago now. A lot of us did. [She offers, attempting to give him some comfort.

She studies him for a couple seconds.] I feel I should apologize for my earlier comment about exploiting your talents. I meant no harm. And obviously, that's not exactly what we're after here. So, I'm sorry if it offended you in any way.

[At this time he realizes he crit failed was not as successful at reining in his abundant feelings as he thought. He waves his hand dismissively.] I'm not offended. I know you meant no harm. I was just ... reminded.

You remember then? Your life before your journey through the Veil? [Her interest is definitely piqued.]

Most of it. There are fuzzy parts, but I don't feel broken. I feel like I'm all here. But then, I guess there's no way of knowing, is there?

[socialgraces]

I think you'd know. But regardless, new memories will replace the old, and soon you'll feel like this was always home. At least I hope you're lucky enough to be able to assimilate. [And her eyes subconsciously follow the path Lan had previously traveled.

She turns her attention back to Finnick and fixes him with a charming smile (DC 34).] You seem to be making yourself at home already.

I hope so, too. There's not much about home worth remembering, honestly.

[Aw yeah he has been charmed like a mofo. Which doesn't happen that often in Finnick's life -- he tends to be the one doing the charming. The tension in his muscles eases as he finds himself becoming more comfortable around her.] What other choice do I have?

[socialgraces]

A wise outlook. And a rational one at that. [She seems impressed, but it's mostly flattery (which he'll sense motive if he can beat her bluff check of 33). She gives him an appraising sweep, her eyes focusing on his muscles, and an appreciative smile twisting her lips. She brings her gaze back up to his.] After all, you seem like you have so much to offer the future, why dwell in the past?

[Well, since 16 is nowhere near 33, it's not likely that he will. But feel free to enjoy his muscles. And his golden skin, bronze hair, and ~glistening sea green eyes~.] My thoughts exactly.

[socialgraces]

[Her smile widens at his bold response. She takes a brief glance around them, as if creating a break in conversation, before returning her attention to him.] So, Finnick, tell me about some of your more promising qualities, as it seems I've now put my confidence behind them.

[That won't do. He's an enigmatic, evasive slippery fish.] Maybe you should tell me about some of yours. [In a flirty, seductive voice with a charisma check of 19 aw yeah] Do you have any secrets, Francesca?

[socialgraces]

[She appreciates his attempts, and he is definitely quite attractive, but his charms don't affect her the way they would most will save 28. She has too much experience dealing with his type. Still, she'll play along.] Quid pro quo then? I tell you something about me, and you respond in kind? I would be up for that.

As far as secrets go, I'm afraid mine aren't all that exciting. But I'd definitely be willing to share other experiences with you.

For example, I absolutely love to dance.

[He doesn't verbalize any kind of agreement, but he seems to be going along with her idea.]

Is that supposed to count as your first experience? Maybe we should, it seems a shame to let a ballroom like this go to waste.

[socialgraces]

Such a shame. [She gives him a knowing grin and waits for him to lead the way.]

[And lead he does. with dexterity check 19 :')]

Okay, here's something about me for you -- I spent most of my childhood on boats.

[socialgraces]

[And she'll follow dance check 21 quite happily.] Was your father part of the armed forces? Or were you fishermen?

[She'll wait for his answer before sharing something else.] I can see better in complete darkness than in the light.

The second. I grew up in a seafaring community. Or something like it.

That must come in handy. [cheeky grin.] No clanging around in the dark in search of your toothbrush.

With the downside of light blindness, for which sunglasses are much appreciated. And yes, it does prove very useful. No fumbling around in the dark for me. [Giving him a cheeky grin of her own.]

Was that your next fact, or do I get another?

It could count, [He gives a small shrug,] but would it be fair? Here's one. I always carry a piece of rope with me -- not now, obviously. I like tying knots. It keeps my hands busy.

[socialgraces]

[Her face changes almost completely at his remark, her expression much more open and soft. It doesn't appear to be a deeply personal revelation, but to her it is. He's a worrier, and he doesn't know how express his anxieties, with anyone, knowing they either wouldn't understand, or care. She knew there was more to him than just a pretty face... and body.

She doesn't want to make a big deal about it and embarrass him though, so she just smiles knowingly before moving on.]

I like to bake, for pretty much the same reasons. I made an amazing chocolate cake the other day.
