WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || March 2nd, 2012, 9:00PM

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.
Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.
Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

Opeeeen;
Well, shocker. He actually looks less out of place than you'd imagine now that he's just dressed up. All those years of mentoring he doesn't remember. That doesn't mean he's not twitchy and uncomfortable by all these strange people and would rather be ELSEWHERE, but some niggling sensation keeps telling him he knows how to behave in public and pretend he gives a shit and also there's booze. So yeah.
Being an amnesiac drunk sucks.]

maybe that's why he couldn't remember the words to the pledge hur hur. THIS CRAZY HOBO WAS SO FAMILIAR.And then it hit him! Haymitch wasn't just Haymitch, he was Haymitch. That crazy drunk mentor from District 12. ... What was he doing here??? Well, he wasn't going to find out by just standing there staring, so he moves across the room to chat.]
Never thought I'd see you at a thing like this, getting knighted and all. Congratulations on not falling down on the walk down the aisle. [he thinks he's just being kawaii and not ... insulting essentially a stranger. His bad. 8( ]

It's the first thought in Haymitch's head, because dear God, there is a bronze-haired tan kid standing in front of him and he wants it to go away. Why is it acting like he knows him? WHAT'S TATERS, PRECIOUS?]
That supposed to be endearing?

Calm down, it was just small talk.

[IS HE SERIOUSLY THIS DRUNK?????]

..Nope.]
Five minutes on a stage together doesn't count. [ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE HIPPIES WHO BELIEVE IN LOVE FOR EVERYONE???]

More amnesia, hm? You're in good company around here. From what I hear, a lot of the knights came through the Veil themselves.

He strikes a sense of familiarity, although she has no idea why. It bothers her, and like with Arthur, she spends a good portion of the night stalking him with her eyes. She isn't exactly fond of social situations, and unlike her first party, she's dressed like a normal teenager that doesn't give a fuck.
Which means jeans, Doc Martens, and a hoodie.
Her hands are shoved into the front pocket of her hoodie and she's leaning up against a nearby wall, staring intensely at him.
Watching his every move.]

And he takes it like a man for approximately ten minutes before he circles around like he's about to leave the room, only to double back and come up somewhere to Katniss's left.] Something on your mind, sweetheart?
[Uh. Weird endearment for some girl he doesn't know. But there is something familiar about her. Something that... Makes him want to patronize her and be generally jerky.
But she started it. Okay.]

I have a name.
[She nearly growls this out, and stands up taller as she steps in closer to him, as if she's honestly going to intimidate such a big barge of a man.]
It's Katniss, not sweetheart.

My mistake. [The most condescending ever.] And I'm to take it you're boring holes in the back of my head for fun?
no subject
[She's curt and honest, and gives a shrug of her shoulders to show that she doesn't really care who he is at all.]
I should, but I don't. [And this bothers her. But...she won't say that.]

And also how much he drinks.
And that he likes to try cutting off a fellow Squires' head with a broken wine glass.
Interesting. She couldn't hear the conversation from where she had been standing and had begun moving that way when Risa intervened. It was quite obvious, at least from Haymitch's face that whatever had happened wasn't over between the two of them, and then they were moving outside. She debated following them but thought it best to give them time to work through their issues. Hopefully if either of them did end up dead they could be rezzed.
It would sure suck if her new Squire died before they even met.]

But... First unfinished business. He's had people watching him all night and he's pretty sure in two cases, it was long before he tried to stab Finnick (or so says his friggin' spot check of 20- obviously he's been doing more hoarding than actual drinking), so after dealing with Katniss, his other shadow gets approached.]
Not big on interference?

Not if I don't know what the beef is about.
[She has a thick Irish accent mixed slightly with something else that he probably wouldn't recognize since he is so new to this world. She stands at five and a half feet, has unusually bright green eyes (and with a spot check of 12 or more he would be able to notice how pointed her face looks, sharper than most, and the tips of her ears are slightly more pointed as well.)]
Okay, maybe that wasn't true, I usually don't mind getting into the middle o'things, but I figured I'd give ye time to work this one out.
[She straightens up, offering her hand and another friendly smile.]
Sir Alainn O'Rourke, at your service. I'm the Knight you're Squired to.

Haymitch Abernathy. [He intentionally leaves the Sir, off, because he's not sure how he feels about being Knighted right now.] I'd apologize for how this is going to be, but I'm not that sorry. [But he's honest. Mostly.]
no subject
"How this is going to be?" I'm curious about how you mean that. [There is nothing condescending or sarcastic in her tone, just genuine curiosity. There also seems to be a touch of
maybesomething that sounds like concern.She gives him a chance to reply by pulling out a chair and sitting, gesturing to one across from herself while crossing her ankles and putting her hands behind her head.]
