Last April, a kindly book seller and purveyor of magical lore found himself the victim of an attack via mail when dangerous magical creatures were sent to his shop from the untraceable sender "PTC".  Since then, Wynn's been tracking the mail system, waiting for that name to pop up again, in case it might lead them to find out who was behind the first attack, and stop any other disasters from occurring.  Recently, something popped up on the radar, so the Knights have to find a way into the exclusive restaurant the Spider's Web in Manchester, or its attached nightclub The Lagoon Club.

[Kate eyes the descending spiders for a moment, before asking, idly, to their mark and the bugbear operator.]

How far down are we going?

[ the bugbear just gives them a toothy grin, and then the doors slide open onto a raised platform inside a huge cavern that stretches in all directions. columns of natural rock separate the tiled floor from the stalactite-covered ceiling overhead. an ornate bar wraps around one column, white tables and chairs and a large dance floor surrounding a portion of a beautiful underground lagoon. soft light emanates from recessed rocks and glowing strands of spider web decorate the rock ceiling. the place is alive with music and conversation, and crowds of people engage in a variety of lavish activities and entertainment. their date grins at them, and shouts: "Can I buy you drinks?" ]

[Kate's phone buzzes with her text back from Phineas and she nods, both to the question and the response. She then glances up with a reaffirming smile.]

Sure. I'll have a martini. Lots of olives.

[And she'll text back: Sounds good. Keep me posted if you find it.]

[ "You got it, beautiful," he says with a wink, and then hurries off to do exactly that. at that moment, a drow emerges slightly from the shadows, just long enough to smile at them, give them a wink, and slip back into the darkness that fills the darkness to the right of the elevator platform. he looked to be dressed in a smart, all black suit, with a pure white tie that matched his pony-tailed hair, but that's all either sees before he vanishes. ]

[ Alisha gives a heavy knock against Kate's arm. ]

Did you see him? You think we should follow?

[Her eyes are still following his retreat as she nods.]

Yeah, it's at least worth checking out. Up for a little sneaking around, or do you want to make sure our date stays distracted?

[She almost feels bad for the poor guy they're about to ditch, but they do have a job to do.]

We're in here now. What's he going to do, find us and get us kicked out. [ she scoffs, yeah right, he'll be too embarrassed to do that ]

[She smirks a bit in return and nods, before following after the guy in question, moving as slowly and quietly as possible so as not to attract attention (move silently 15) and keeping to one side to hopefully use the darkness to stay out of sight (hide 6 action point says 20 total).]

[ as they head that way, they can make spot checks, plz ]

[ it's hard to see anything down this hall, and they follow into what seems to be a deserted portion of the cave partially hidden by both the lack of light and wide columns of natural stone that cut it off from the direct view of the patrons near the lagoon. ahead is a shadow-filled area nestled between four massive columns of stone that loosely form a 40x40 square. they don't see any trace of the drow. ]

[Kate still does her best to keep to the shadows, trying to stay out of view and still get a look around at the same time. They don't see the drow - that doesn't mean he isn't still there somewhere (hide and move silently both 19).

She doesn't go for her gun yet, as much as her instincts may tell her to. That'd be harder to explain if they get caught.

She glances back over her shoulder at Alisha, before tipping her head towards the shadowed area up ahead in a "you good to check it out?" sort of gesture.]

[ If a look could say 'are you fucking kidding me?' then the look on Alisha's face would be saying just that. She nods down the corridor before adding in a whisper. ]

You're the one with the gun!

[She snorts softly at that before nodding, slowly making her way towards the patch of darkness. She should have brought a flashlight, but she doesn't draw her gun right away. She still wants to make sure she has a cover intact in case they can talk their way out of it first.

So onwards they go, Kate's eyes sharp for anything she can see (spot 21). Clearly her eyes are adjusting to the low lighting. Or something.]

[ stepping into the square, a listen check of 10+ is enough to notice something odd - as they move between the columns, they can no longer hear any of the sounds from the nightclub area, whatsoever.

she doesn't notice the drow until it's too late, thanks to his nat 20 hide check. he steps out behind one of the columns, levels a glock 17 at her and fires, but the shot strikes one of the columns next to kate, shattering pieces of rock off of it (atk 10, which doesn't hit her flat footed def either i think). another hand flashes out from a column on the opposite side, tossing a shuriken at alisha but it's an equally inept throw (atk 5).

the drow with the gun takes two more shots in rapid succession (atk 13/atk 16; dmg 7 & 10 if either hit kate's touch ac, before ducking back behind the column for partial cover. ]

Fucks sake!

[ She looks down at the shiny thing on the floor and moves to grab it, quickly picking it up and lobbing it back in the direction it came. Maybe not entirely thought out, but that's what you get (attack 10) ]

[ lmao that actually does hit him??? he's flat footed ok. it only does one damage but he has to roll vs poison too. he curses something in drow, before throwing another one at her, and... crit failing, fumbling and dropping the little spider-shaped shuriken, which clatters to the floor. ]

[The first shot misses, but the second shot catches Kate in the shoulder and she recoils at first, but she recovers quickly enough to draw her gun and fire off a shot in the direction of the drow with the gun (attack 17, damage 8).]

[ it's only the cover of the column that keeps kate's shot from striking the gunslinger. he spends his turn holstering the weapon, pulling out some other kind of weapon and loading it out of sight. ]

[arrested]

[ Alisha moves to a position looks quite possibly like 'hiding behind Kate'. It isn't though. Course not. ]

What the fuck is going on?

[ the flunky pulls another shuriken off his belt, this time going to hit kate with it (atk 16, 1 dmg if it hits plus a fort save vs poison) ]

[Kate hisses as the shuriken sinks into her arm, pulling it out but staying on her feet (fort save nat 20). She's going to shift her focus and shoot at the flunky since he doesn't have cover at the moment (attack 24, damage 10).]

[ the deadly shot bites into the drow's vital core, blowing him back off his feet, where he slumps, bleeding to the floor.

the drow gunman is partly visible, and when he sees the body drop, his hand flashes up to his ear, and he pauses as if listening to something. he curses under his breath, glances around the column to give them both a penetrating glance, and then steps into the shadows (hide 22) going who knows where ]

[Kate turns and manages to catch his escape (spot 26), but she glances back to Alisha first to make sure that she's okay. Kate's got a bullet wound but she needs to assess the situation.]
