Perched at the edge of any civilized lands, the small lumber town of Falcon's Hollow has always had to rely on itself to solve its  problems.  Now the hacking coughs of the sick are heard throughout the town.  The plague has come to the Hollow, and the town is ill equipped to stop it on its own, particularly given its resistance to magic.

That's where the Knights come in, sent to assist a local herbalist in putting together enough supplies to mass produce a cure.

[ yeah no. SO THE WOLVES ARE GETTING A SURPRISE ROUND :D all four of them. everybody but grimrot is getting attacked by one as they leap out of the shadows growling and gnashing their teeth (atk 14 @ abigail, 5 dmg if it hits; 17 @ miles, 9 dmg if it hits; 16 @ nels, 3 dmg if it hits, and then one totally misses wolverine)

and they actually get to go again so second set (atk 16 @ abigail, 6 dmg; 19 @ miles, 6 dmg; 19 @ nels, 6 dmg; annnd a miss on wolverine) ]

[ UM YEAH so that brings abigail to a whole 5 hp so she's going to back the fuck away as her move action, not looking good at all even a little bit, before drawing her excalibur for the first time on any mission every and firing at ...any wolf. (atk 23 plus -4 penalty for not having precise shot, so atk 19; penetration dmg 19 dayum if that hits) ]

[WELL CRAP WOLVES. Grimrot raises her mace and moves in, swinging it down at the closest wolf (atk 20, dmg 4).]

[Miles manages to barely dodge out of the way of the first attack, but he takes the second, cursing before he strike out at the wolf that got a piece of him (atk 21, dmg 9).]

[ abigail's shot goes right through the chest of the wolf that had attacked her, tearing into its heart and dropping it instantly. grimrot's mace smacks into the back of the one on nels, and miles gets in a good blow on his own. wolverine tears into the wolf that was dumb enough to attack him, driving his claws up through its jaw, so that they come out the top of its snout, felling it entirely (atk 30, dmg 37).

miles' wolf gets a hold of his arm and jerks his head violently aside, as if he's trying to rip it off. muscle tears as the arm threatens to give way beneath its powerful jaws (atk 20, penetration dmg 15). the one that had been attacking nels turns its attention to grimrot after she smacks it, snapping its jaws at her quickly with a 22, for 4 dmg. ]

[ oh no, wolfy, you don't get to murder abigail's new friend. she has seen too many limbs being cut off, she does not need to see any more. she fires at the wolf attacking miles, horrified gasp punctuated by the sharp crack of a gunshot. (atk 20 total, dmg 10) ]

[Nels is hovering at 0 HP and Staggered, so he will make use of his precious half-action to Fight defensively, taking a -4 atk for +2 AC, pumping his defense to 18, and he will swing at the wolf nearest him (The one Grimrot already blasted with her mace) Boosting his Atk & damage with his cunning insight ability. Atk of 18, for 15 damage.]

[ both wolves reel from the impact of the bullet and the sword simultaneously, and there's the sound of twin whimpers as the wolves meet their ends and fall to the ground.

wolverine whirls in place, still heaving breaths, veins bulging out, before he gets a hold of himself and retracts his blades with a half-snarl of his own. ] Might be more where that came from. We need to move, and move fast.

[Nels stumbles along slowly after Logan, dizzy from blood loss. Fucking wolves.]

[ abigail is in pretty bad shape herself, but not as bad as nels, so while they walk she's going to scamper over to him and (successfully) try to stem the bleeding with her med kit (treat injury 28 = + 1d4 hp). when he seems as okay as she can make him whilst walking she'll move on to work on miles and herself. ]

[ logan looks over the heavily injured group, clearly concerned about running into something else out there that might finish them off in their current state. ] We could always head back to that witch's hut. Wasn't exactly a friendly place, but maybe we could at least pass the night.

[Miles does not like the sound of that, but he likes the idea of being out here even less.]

I'm down with taking the lesser of two evils.

Then let's get moving. [ the trip to the hut itself is uneventful, and while the place is full of strange smells and unsettling sights, there's room for them to huddle for now, at least. logan offers to keep watch, pacing outside. ]

[ abigail will patch herself up for 3 hp, bringing her to 8 total. (treat injury 25) and she'll do the same for miles and grimrot if they need it. preemptively rolls treat injury checks of 25 again and 20 total, respectively, so tada. add your own 1d4 hp. :)

and then she's going to curl up and try to rest. weeee. ]

[He was still holding it together pretty well other than that arm bite, but he'll gladly take 2 hp. Thanks frand.]

[Yeah, Grimrot's doing all right, but certainly not so all right that she won't take a bit of extra. She bustles around fussing with her alchemy stuff for a little while before also trying to get some sleep.]

[ the next morning, they begin their trek back once again, this time without any event. as they return to falcon's hollow, laurel looks up, surprised to see them.



"You actually made it. A little worse for the wear, it looks like." Her eyes travel over the tell tale remaining signs of injury. "I suppose it's too much to hope you found what you were looking for." ]

[ abigail wrenches open her bag to reveal so many mushrooms. i think that was the only one she held on to?but if not then she has that other stuff, too. ]

[ laurel's eyes widen as she examines them. ] And the rest. [ logan nods as they present the other ingredients as ordered, laying them on her table.



"I have to admit - I'm impressed. You lot really risked your necks for this, and I just hope that Grandma's recipe doesn't wind up letting us all down." she looks them over sincerely, wiping a strand of hair back off her forehead. "Thank you. Really. This could save our town." ]

I hope so. [ it's a genuine sentiment, but part of it is also that she doesn't want to have gotten badly injured for... nothing. 8 hp, yo. ]

We'll stick around until we see whether it works or not, at least. [ plus, that'll give the others some more recovery time.

laurel again, thanks them profusely, and then directs them to where they can stay (with the mayor, no less) until she's done, so they won't be underfoot.

by the very same evening, many local residents are already on their way to recovery. the mixture not only works, but works quite rapidly, and the mayor is happy to send them back with a hefty reward to add to the knights' treasury. they're sent off like heroes by a very grateful town, knowing they'll leave a lot of saved lives behind them.
