While scams about genetically modified corn wouldn't normally fall under the purview of the Knights, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has called in assistance from Wynn because of reports of the two agents investigating the matter running into some sort of Shadowkind that attacked them at the silos containing the corn in question.

The Knights fly out to Tennessee to check out the situation, and Christos drives them directly towards the silos in question, which are three lonely, old looking structures set in the middle of a field far away from any other civilization.

This was meant to be a routine investigation. We were only called in for it because we happened to be in the area when the case comes across our AD's desk.

We were already inside the silos when they appeared. It was if they came out of nowhere. We counted four of them, but there were no lights inside the structures, and one of them knocked the flashlight out of my hand before we could get a clear look at them. [ she holds up her arm, drawing back the sleeve, and they can see claw marks attempting to heal on her wrist ] We at least know there are no traces of poison.

From what we could see, they were small, scaled, and had what I could only call long snouts.

[ small, scaled, with long snouts. in amy's mind that narrows it down to crocodiles, but she doubts that is the case and so she pulls out her phone to pull a rory, i mean, take a picture. ]

May I? [ she motions between the phone and her wrist, question obvious even as she continues questioning, glancing at mulder. ] Did you have a similar... [ what's the word when it's possibly aliens? ] Encounter?

[ agent fowley nods, allowing her to snap a pic, as mulder watches. ] Seeing as how I was there, I can certainly corroborate Agent Fowley's story. Whatever they were, they walked on their hind legs, and they didn't seem interested in talking. If they were some kind of lizardfolk, maybe they'd built a nest that we'd walked in on.

I've not met lizard blokes yet. Rubbish, mind you. [ the last part is directed at the doctor as she passes him the phone. the phone with the picture because she was worried he would lick fowley's arm or sniff it or something ridiculous as he is prone to doing and fowley is an american fbi agent.

they probably have guns. she might shoot the doctor if he licked and/or sniffed her so amy attempted the no licking plan. ] All I got was a great big eyeball threatening to "incinerate the human residence" over the ice cream truck loud speaker and a toothy eel thing livin' in my back room.

[ she does not actually sound overly disappointed about that, fyi, eyes bright and smile ever cheerful. actual alien enthusiast up in here. ] It may be you just don't speak lizard. Or Parseltongue.

[ mulder chuckles, drawing a bag of sunflower seeds out of his pocket and downing a handful. he proffers the bag to agent fowley, who shakes her head slightly, and then he holds it out to amy. ] Well, you're right about that. And we didn't exactly have time to turn on Google Translate. Does one of you speak Lizard?

[ um of course she is going to take some sunflower seeds, smiling flirtatiously with a murmured thanks. it's the nose. she doesn't know why, but the nose, it speaks to her on a deep, emotional level. ]

Not unless they're Scottish.

[ The Doctor takes the phone, turning it upside down to look at it, before turning his head and then finally turning it the right way up, only half listening to them as he tries to do the two finger pinchy zoom thing. ]

Depends on the species of Lizard. Speak most of them though.

[ He lowers it down and grins, handing the phone back towards Amy. ]

You know one of my best friends is a Lizard.

[ Sebastian was listening and once he was done smoking he finally made his way over to stand near them.]

Then let's just hope that they haven't moved on yet. If they have, you've come a long way for nothing. [ with that, fowley pushes past them towards the silos, and finds the way blocked by christos, who has neither introduced himself, nor contributed to the conversation, glowering instead from the back in his customary dark cloak. she pauses in front of him, eyes widening slightly, then looks back at amy, the doctor, and sebastian as if to confirm that he's their.... bodyguard or something, before she says: ] Excuse me. [ and makes her way around him. ]

Don't worry, he doesn't bite! [ he probably does, but amy calls after fowley all the same because clearly amy is the relationship manager in this quartet. a moment later, she turns back to mulder because this is what she's here for y'all. ] Is there anything else you can think of before we head in? Weird lights, crop circles, god I'd love a proper crop circle. You lot have got corn here, so why haven't y'got crop circles?

[ mulder gives a half-grin at that, and the interest in his eyes is... not hard to notice at all. ] Last I heard, crop circles have appeared even in times when the so-called Veil has been closed, so I'm not certain that there's ever been anything to link Shadowkind to their formation. Although if you're interested, there were new patterns just this last Christmas, in Mexico, which hardly seems a coincidence given-- [ fowley speaks up from the distance in a stern voice of warning: "Mulder." and he looks chastened but doesn't drop the boyish grin. ] Right. Lizards.

[ amy is just the epitome of chinhands right now, making a note of mexico and christmas and looking at mulder like he is the shiniest toy in the store. ]

Lizards like heat, don't they? When corn's put in silos it creates heat, 'cause of the natural fermentation process. Maybe that's why the were in the silos. Nesting. So their nesting, you think it's full of lizard people eggs? ...Lizards come from eggs right? [ He's not the brightest bulb some days.]

If they are, it would explain why they wanted to run us off first, ask questions later.

Teenagers. Crop circles that is. It's usually teenagers. [ Alien teenagers sometimes, but still... teenagers.

He steps back over, frowning a bit. ]

And if it is, is there a good reason to disturb it? Probably wouldn't be best pleased if a whole band of lizard people popped into your local maternity ward and moved around all the babies, now would you?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we disturb anything. But I think the situation warrants confirmation, don't you?

Oh, I do. [ of course she does. in it to win it with agent mulder. ] He's right, Doctor. As are you. But we cannae help them if we don't know the full scope of the situation. [ there's something in her tone that implies the "them" she wants to help are the lizard folks and she makes pleading puppy dog eyes at the doctor, wheedling. ] Come on, Doctor. Geronimo.

And if their aggressive, we burn the bitch to the ground.

[ He was maybe coming around to the idea a bit until that. He gives Sebastian a rather severe glare. ]

If they're hostile, I think we focus on containment. [ opennnning the silo doors, and drawing out her flashlight to shine the beam inside. it's dark, smells heavily of corn, and the floor is covered in a few husks here and there. ]

[ amy crit failed her spot check so there is a good chance she is just staring at mulder with heart eyes. ]

[ And wow, sorry the Doctor also crit failed, so he's probably still looking in the opposite direction or something. GO TEAM. ]

[ mulder got a 17 and fowley got a 23 so they're at least actually looking around actively here i guess. they train their beams around the interior, stepping carefully around but coming up with... nothing. at all. ] I don't understand... There aren't even any tracks.

oh right though, she's supposed to be looking around and not at mulder's downright precious confusion. right. job to do. wait, wtf does no tracks mean? ]

Maybe... Lizards shed, yeah? If they've been here long enough maybe they've shed a skin.
