While scams about genetically modified corn wouldn't normally fall under the purview of the Knights, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has called in assistance from Wynn because of reports of the two agents investigating the matter running into some sort of Shadowkind that attacked them at the silos containing the corn in question.

The Knights fly out to Tennessee to check out the situation, and Christos drives them directly towards the silos in question, which are three lonely, old looking structures set in the middle of a field far away from any other civilization.

[ Sebastian pulled the Excalibur gun from behind the suit jacket he was wearing, taking aim but not shooting yet. These were moments he cursed not having his sword on him.]

[ mulder draws his own gun, aiming it at the creature as he moves in closer to amy, putting a hand on her shoulder and squatting beside her. ] What's wrong with her? [ he casts a panicked expression back at sebastian and the doctor, and then a wary eye back at the creature, who is already lumbering towards it. before mulder can react, it rakes down at him wit a long-clawed hand (atk 28, dmg 7), cutting him right across his beautiful cheek. ow. ]

Oh for gods' sake, just stay back. [ christos gets an attack of opportunity on the thing when it stupidly disengages from him just to fuck mulder up (atk 26, dmg 13), and follows behind it to get in a backstab swipe (atk 26, dmg 26), which causes it to let out a horrible wail, turning to glare at christos, all its anger fixed on him now. ]

[ up the treehouse the doctor turns to find the girl, hands out and palms up. ]

Hello! Blimey, it's all a bit go out there, isn't it? I'm the Doctor. Thought I'd come for a bit of a chat. What do you say, eh?

[ sans monster might be best, but one step at a time (diplomacy 34) ]

[ yes, mulder, stay back! amy's head clears enough for her to wobble to her feet, concern for mulder flaring as she pulls him away from christos and the monster. ]

You're bleeding! [ she's just gonna pull the sleeve of her jacket down over her hand and ineffectually try to stop the bleeding. (treat injury 14) ] Where's Agent Fowley?

[ IS SHE IN DANGER TOO??? must protect the fbi agents. ]

[ Shit just got real ♫ Sebastian moved from where he was to try and get between Mulder, Amy and the creature, while keeping the gun leveled on the creature, finally firing off (Atk 12, Dmg 9) ]

[ sebastian's shot can't pierce through the creature's tough hide, and mulder winces as amy tends to him. ] She [ he hisses a sharp intake of air ] went to get the local police, to report the missing girl, and see if we could get backup. [ he's honestly happy to stay out of it, if christos wants to fight the thing so badly.

meanwhile, up in the treehouse, the little girl is cowering in a corner, shaking like a leaf, hands drawn around her knees. she has her eyes shut tightly.

"It's my fault, my fault," she says. "They're going to take my Daddy, the men in suits." ]

[ as the creature turns to face him, christos stares into its eyes with a baleful expression, before springing into a blur of movement (atk 34/29/36 (crit)/20), slicing it with a series of expert cuts, strong enough to rip into it for 68 dmg, which is enough to send the creature slumping to its knees... and then falling face first into the snow, where it promptly vanishes upon impact. christos is left staring at the spot where it just was, shoulders heaving slightly, sword in hand, looking up to meet sebastian's gaze.

[ still patting mulder's cheek like the worst nightingale, amy manages to focus enough to watch the monster fall and vanish. oh. ] Is Robert okay?

[ the doctor doesn't move up too close, not wanting to scare her. he just sits in place, and crosses his legs a bit, getting comfy as if he's there for the long run ]

Dad's are great, aren't they? I had one once. Bit embarrassing sometimes though but they try their best. What did you do? You can tell me, you know. I've done all sorts of weird things. Tell you what, you tell me then we'll go and find your dad together, how's that sound?

[ Sebastian lowered the gun looking shocked as the creature vanished. Moveput the gun away moving over to Christos since Amy and Mulder seem to have each other.] You gotta show me how to do that shit, and hide a sword.

[ He hated being useless.]

[ mulder looks over to where robert is, and moves to get back to his feet, with amy's help. the man is slowly shaking his head, heavily confused. ] Are you alright? [ robert looks up at them all in turn, and then at the treehouse. "My girl... Is she--" ]

[ christos casts an unimpressed look at sebastian, before flicking his wrist with the blade in hand. it retracts into itself in moments, and he easily hides it back on his person. ] He'll be fine.

[ the little girl looks down, staring at her hands. "He told me not to tell anyone. About my... my powers." ]

Well that's okay, I'm not anyone, I'm the Doctor.[ he shoots her a big idiotic smile and offers out his hand towards her. ]

Hello!

The Doctor is with her, [ amy assures robert, looking a little pale but confident. so confident. ] He won't let anything happen to her. Trust me.

[ speaking of: ] Oi, Doctor! Update?

[ He still looks hella impressed at that sword retracting. That was cool as fuck. He finally looks over to Robert.]

I wouldn't worry, he's good people.

[ the girl looks a bit skittish when she hears amy call up, but looks back at the doctor and tentatively reaches out for his hand.

"Those men in suits came to ask my dad questions. They must have found out about me. He's going to be in trouble because of me. It's all my fault," she says, eyes filling up with tears. "Please don't let them take him away from me." ]

[ with a smile, the doctor takes her hand and gives it a gentle squeeze ]

That's just my friend Amy [ he assures her ] Bet you'd love Amy. And nobody is going to take anybody away. They'd have to get through me first. Promise.

[ carefully, he shifts a little, and looks towards the opening on the treehouse ]

All right Pond! [ he calls back ] We're just having a bit of a chat. Everything okay out there?

We're fine. [ christos seems unconcerned about any of the minimal damage suffered by the team at least. nothing they won't survive. sorry mulder. ]

Well, we're something. [ it's softly muttered as she casts a worried look at mulder and rubs at her forehead again before raising her voice to reply. ] You haven't any paracetamol, have you? Maybe a humbug?

[ Sebastian looks back to Robert a moment then to Amy.]

He doesn't look that bad, besides, chicks dig scars.

Hold your horses! [ he calls back out ] I've got just the thing!

[ looking back down to her he whispers. ] Think my friend isn't feeling very well. Shall we go out there, see your dad? What do you say, eh? Together?

They do, do they? [ mulder directs to sebastian, before dropping a very wry hint of a smile at amy as if to ask her to confirm. they're interrupted as the girl nods shyly to the doctor, and deigns to climb down with him. robert rushes forward towards his daughter, who leaps off the ladder to go running at him, throwing her arms around his legs.

"I'm sorry, Daddy," she murmurs, muffled against him. robert looks confused a bit, glancing up at the doctor. "You've nothing to be sorry for, sweetheart. This wasn't on purpose." ]

Course it wasn't. These things never are. But you're both alright, aren't you? And cuts and bruises'l heal.

[ he reaches a hand out and touches it lightly to robert's arm, reassuring, before moving back towards amy. ]

Right then, what's going on over here?

[ glancing up at mulder, she makes an expression that looks a lot like maybe. ]

Psychic head shot, [ she says to the doctor, pointing to herself, before indicating mulder with: ] Physical head shot. [ her voice lowers. ] Cindi's okay? She's not hurt?
