The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[he opens his mouth a few times, making weird monosyllabic sounds as he tries to start a sentence and then gives up.]

..I don't know what to say to that. Is that a compliment? Has my honor been impugned? I don't know.

It means I don't have to threaten to set you on fire if you're trying to screw her over or sell her out to anyone who might have Pegasus on their radar.

[So basically good and bad - she doesn't think you're a threat. But at the same time, she doesn't think you're a threat.]

[he takes a casual step back.] That's a valid point. Fortunately, I've got just as much of a target on my back as she does. [and then, in a more deadpan tone:] And I'm also not a cold, rat bastard.

[See, the fact that he has a target on his back doesn't make her feel better. Because people who are desperate and just want to survive could probably easily sell out someone bigger (metaphorically) and stronger than them. But she'll take him at his word for now.]

I'd hope not. Wynn usually has more discerning taste than that.

Yeah... He's pretty intense.

[Topher has no idea what to think about Wynn beyond he is scary as hell. Scarier than Adelle, even.]

He is basically the tallest person I've ever seen... And I've known a lot of tall people.

I'm used to tall people. He just has this ... presence. Kind of makes him larger than life.

It does take a certain amount of presence.

So does he ever actually run into battle with everyone like Mel Gibson in BraveHeart? ...Obviously, less with the war paint and kilts, but, you know... He might could pull that off.

[She laughs.]

Not exactly like Braveheart, but he was on the ground in Andres with us. It was pretty much an all-hands on deck sort of situation, and he was one of those hands.

Yeah, Kali... Told me about that. Liberating countries. That's a... That's a thing we do here, huh? [still a little awkward about it.] It's great! I mean... It's a good thing, but, uh, I'm more of a "curing mental illnesses" sort of would-be hero.

Not all the time, but when the need arises, we step up.

[Putting Mark back in the throne had been the right thing to do, and he seems to be doing well with it so far. Unfortunately she bombed her wisdom check to see if she would figure out how he's curing mental illnesses (wisdom 5).]

How do you cure mental illnesses?

[Those tend to be more of a maintenance thing, aren't they?]

It's not really a sound science- it's all theoretical, at this point, but I have a very specific process that gets down to the whole nitty gritty of how the brain works and... I'm sure... one day I'll actually be able to hack it.

[Hack. Hahaha. Get it. 'Cause he's a brain hacker. ahaha. okay we have fun.]

[She nods slowly, tipping her head to the side.]

Interesting. I guess. I'm not really a science person.

So you're a... [he looks her over] ...espionage person? Fighter person? It's, like, really hard to tell, okay. There's girls shorter than me who are, like, swinging swords bigger than my torso around. It's great. [he laughs nervously and it peters off as he swallows hard.] Also terrifying.

[She smirks a bit at that before shaking her head.]

Magic person. I'm in the Dragon's Fire.

Ohhh. [said in the way someone might finish the sentence with "oh you poor lamb."] Well, at least the Veil's still opened. Good time for magic-users these days.

[bredinthebone]

[She raises an eyebrow at that, because that sure is an interesting tone.]

You got a problem with magic users?

[andblockbuster]

No! I mean, not a problem... It's just trying to grok the whole mystical part of it that gets me. Psionics are easier to pin down for me- that's all brain stuff. The crazy part is that it goes when the Veil closes too. Why? Science hasn't figured it out yet.

[bredinthebone]

[Her eyebrows go up at that.]

So if science can't explain it, it doesn't really fit in your world view?

[She shrugs.]

I don't really know for sure. I just know that it's something I can do - something I could always do. It runs in my blood. There has to be some science in that.

Not... in so many words. [he circles his hands vaguely.] And yeah, okay- there's that, but there's people who have no family history of it just being able to pick up spellbooks like whoosh. And there's a line between the different classes of arcane magic-users... and then you get the whole divine magic-users thing, and it's just a whole lot of whaaat.
