The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[In that regard, Katniss understands all too well, and it means she came with pretty much literally nothing. Any 'possessions' she might have had would have only mattered because of memories, and she lost those too.]

You heard right. We're stuck here. But if you're gonna be stuck anywhere on this side, this is one is pretty decent.

Everyone's been very kind since I arrived. [ Of course, they were kind on Andres too, so she's really grouping in this whole world as being a considerable improvement over Jakku. ] Have you seen much of this world with the Knights?

[Lucky Rey, since that would not have been the case if she'd landed in that same spot not that long ago. Katniss remembers hearing about it, and almost says something, then decides against it.]

No, not really. I had a mission go wrong and then I ended up having some...personal things to deal with. [For a couple years nbd.] I only got back recently.

[forcevisions]

Welcome back, then. [ She nods earnestly as if to convey that the Knights are fortunate to have her back. She won't pry, not into personal matters of someone she'd only just met, but it's hard to deny her curiosity. ]

[Probably for the best, because if she did, Katniss would probably shut down. It's not a good topic for her and she doesn't talk about it with....almost no one, really.]

So am I. Coming to the castle helped me find people who I knew before I came through the Veil. [ She could say the Force brought her to them, but she's kind of learning that ... maybe not say that. And it's all secondhand for her anyway. ]

You have people from home here, too?

[It's a rhetorical question, really, considering she...just heard her say so.]

That seems to be kind of common around here.

Some people just have that sort of pull to them, I suppose. You're bound to find them, wherever they are. I know there are some others I'd like to hope will find their way here too—someday.

There probably aren't very many people from my world that wouldn't be better off here, I think. So I guess I can hope for that, too.

Was it very bad where you came from?

[ The whole galaxy wasn't, Rey thinks despondently. She's sorry she didn't get the chance to see more of it. ]

[Most of her information is second-hand, but she remembers enough to believe what she's heard.]

Those in power shoved the children of those not into caged death matches to keep them from uprising. So yeah, I'd say it was pretty bad.

[ Judging by the look on her face, Rey takes it upon herself to fully imagine it while she weighs the struggle. It doesn't sound unlike the kind of thing the First Order might do—except instead of pitting the children against one another, they're raising them into blindly loyal soldiers without families. ]

I'll take it as a good sign that you've chosen to throw your support behind the power that Wynn wields, then.

I had nowhere else to go.

[But she'd be lying if she said they hadn't treated her kindly. But she knows what happens on these missions, what they sometimes do. Deciding that she wants to do the same has been a complicated process, made more complicated by her own mental state.

She knows that she won't leave, though. Where would she go?]

I trust my mentor. And it's been four years and I haven't left yet, so I guess that says something.

[forcevisions]

Was your mentor one of the people you knew before you came here? [ She only asks because she feels like Jaina should have been. Solo. She feels foolish for not seeing it before she encountered Han. ]

No. He was the first person I talked to after I got here.

[When she was terrified and shooting at people in the middle of London.]

[ She nods. ]

Who is he?

Christos La Krail. He's one of the freelancer knights.

Who did they squire you to?

[Even if she....probably won't know them.]

Jaina Solo.

[ She's 👀 about whether or not Katniss knows her honestly. ]

[She shakes her head slightly.]

We haven't met. Do you like her?

[forcevisions]

I do. [ Rey nods. ] She seems focused, like she knows where her priorities lie. From what I've seen here, it's not necessarily true of every knight.

[anthophobia]

No, it's not.

As long as your priorities line up with hers, it should work.

[forcevisions]

Don't most people here have similar priorities, to help improve the situation for Shadowkind?

[anthophobia]

Well, sure, but if you think everyone goes about it in the same way, then think again.

[forcevisions]

How do you go about it? [ There's an earnestness in the way she asks it, like Katniss' opinion on the matter is the one she's most likely to value. ]

[anthophobia]

I remember that I'm no good to anyone if I'm dead. And that a lot of the time, getting out of there in one piece, and getting everyone else out too, is more important than the mission.

And when it comes down to a fight, which a lot of the times it does, it's going to come down to you or them, and you have to be prepared to pick yourself first.

Just because I'm doing the right thing, it doesn't always mean it's gonna look like that to everyone else.
