The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia.  Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed:  they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital.  Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn.  They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.  

Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

Things went pretty pear-shaped compared to how you wanted that to go. When Kat worked her mojo on Sarandis, I thought we were gonna need a distraction, but ... you know I suck at undercover. [ She puffs out a breath. ] All I did was make them suspicious. None of it was Gar's fault. She wanted to stick to the script, make sure it went the way it was supposed to. I messed it up.

And because of that ... [ She sighs. ] I don't know what happened to Kitty, but she's not the only one who died back there.

Decker brought Elena and me into a coat closet to interrogate us, and I killed him. [ Strictly speaking, it can't be said that she's entirely telling the truth, but Buffy doesn't waiver in her willingness to take responsibility for it because for all she knows, it could be true. No one stopped to check if he was breathing before Elena blew his face open. But she's dealt with enough hell from the choices she's made, and done enough to try to clean up Buffy's mess here, that if Buffy can take the full brunt of responsibility for it (and morally and personally, she chooses to shoulder half), she's going to. ] The fight that broke out, the crossfire, it was my fault. I escalated the situation.

[wynn]

[ wynn listens quietly, fixing his attention on her, and when she's finished, he looks forward, tone thoughtful as he says: ] I see.

[slay]

... "I see." That's all I'm gonna get? [ Some of the wind puffs out of her sails and Buffy's shoulders slump to match the starkly disbelieving look she wears. ] You know, this whole wise, distance-y Dumbledore thing gets really hard to read for the rest of us.

[wynn]

I thought you might have more to add to that.

[slay]

More? Like what more? I really thought the "I screwed up, things turned violent, and I killed a guy" summary was working.

[wynn]

It sounds as though you recognize what went wrong in the situation. Do you regret that things led to Decker's death?

[slay]

I regret putting my friends in danger, and not trusting that Elena could have handled it in there alone. [ The strained way her gaze drifts off into the middle-distance, considering the chair in front of her, indicates some kind of small battle waging within her. ] But we got him. So no, not entirely.

[wynn]

And how does Sir Gilbert feel about this?

[slay]

She said what matters is acknowledging when we make mistakes, and that it's good that I did.

[wynn]

Do you believe that your actions endangered civilians as well?

[slay]

They could have, if the rest of the team hadn't been so quick to watch out for them. [ but tbh there's a significant part of her that struggles to dub sarandis' wedding guests "civilians." his social circle gets only the barest of free passes. ]

[wynn]

And what about the officers on the scene? Did you run into any of them?

[slay]

... Yeah. Yeah, I ran into them.

[ The quiet edge of her voice says it all too clearly. She fought them off. She watched Archer light them ablaze. She knows precisely what happened to them. ]

[wynn]

And?

[slay]

And I made sure to leave them breathing. They didn't ask for this. I don't even know how they responded as quickly as they did: they never should have been there in the first place.

[wynn]

It seems that they were on alert for the stolen ambulance, after several paramedics were discovered unconscious in the parking garage and reported its theft.

[slay]

So I guess I wasn't the first thing to go wrong. [ Somehow, that doesn't make her feel a whole lot better. ] What happened to the cops never should have happened. But we did what we always do—in the rare event that we actually make a plan, we skip straight past contingencies for worst case scenario and just wing it, hoping for the best. We need to start considering what we're going to do when things go wrong.

[wynn]

Did Sir Gar attempt to secure control of the situation?

[slay]

She ... at one point, suggested we limit the murder of uniformed officers. [ She doesn't want to throw Gar under the bus but she also feels like most people just ... ignore her suggestions because she's so British most of the time, so that's fairly up in the air. She'll stick to facts, even though "attempt to secure control" is such an ambiguous assessment. ]

Well, yeah. [ said sheepishly. ]
