The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia.  Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed:  they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital.  Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn.  They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.  

Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

[She slips into the empty seat, before taking the shoestring and setting it into the first position. She's a little rusty at first (dexterity 14), but to be fair she hasn't done this since she and Lucy were sitting bored in her room back in the Bronx.]

I promise I won't rip your fingers off. I saw those stupid torture porn movies with the guy in the clown mask. He only wishes he thought of death by cat's cradle.

[Des has a lot of time on his hands, apparently.] So how're you liking being part of the dream team. Scared yet?

[he's halfway kidding.] Believe it or not, this was a mild day. Psion-free.

[She considers for a moment, before giving a small shrug.]

Psion-free is something I can get behind. And I wasn't sucked into any killer paintings, and none of our teammates died.

[Her Switzerland trauma is still pretty fresh, so at least there's that.]

As far as I'm concerned, today was a win.

Contrary to the reputation this group gets for being on the same mission for years, I'd say we average out on wins. I don't know what else Wynn's kids get up to, but killer paintings sounds like it's above my paygrade, anyway.

[She smirks.]

There was this painter in Switzerland who was having his work ripped off. So he was sending enchanted paintings full of monsters to the ones responsible as revenge. We didn't originally get sent out for that - we happened to have a meeting with one of his victims the day he died and stumbled into it.

And because he's a creative type, he knew poison or hiring an assassin or, you know, getting the police involved, wasn't gonna have that special touch.

Precisely.

[She shook her head.]

His place was also loaded with booby traps and living paintings so tracking him down was ... fun, to say the least.

Sounds like a guy Asher would love. [he doesn't usually talk about his... well, it's hard to call them friends, when he barely sees most of them, except when he needs them or they need him. his relationship with Liam is pretty standard when it comes to most of the people he's known.

still it's hard not to hear booby traps and think of that bastard.] He squats in an old meatpacking plant somewhere outside Detroit and has the thing locked down like he's expecting an invasion. Fortunately, he has never given anyone a reason to want to hunt him down that bad.

[he chuckles.] Only thing worse than a paranoid person is a paranoid person with murder tendencies.

[She nods in agreement.]

Unfortunately, he wasn't exactly wrong about people stealing his work. Which ... God only knows why they did in the first place. It was incredibly creepy.

Creepy sells. Look at Dimitris. He ran a country with that fucking mustache.

[She laughs.]

Good point. Hitler too. Never underestimate the power of bad facial hair.

Or bad ... any hair, if the GOP race keeps going like it's going.

[Des works out a tangle in his shoelace.] Oh yeah? I haven't really been following.

[She shakes her head.]

So glad I moved to England.

No shit? [he seems utterly surprised by that.] I must've missed that somehow, and I don't live here. Probably just protecting myself from the folly of man, I guess.

[She laughs.]

Well, everyone thought it was a joke for a while, but now he's starting to look like an actual candidate which is more than a little mildly terrifying.

The world's falling to pieces. [he scoffs, trying to make light of it, but it's... honestly true.]

[She gives a small shrug.]

The world is what it is. People make their choices and have to deal with the consequences.

Also there's a nightmare god literally trying to bring down his very special version of the apocalypse. That's not really helping anything.

[Donald Trump may or may not be Malaka'a. Or at least a devoted follower. The real point is, for once, Des is not the one invoking ancient wisdom today.]

[Felicity nods in agreement, before tipping her head to the side.]

Personally, I feel like we stand a better chance of stopping the nightmare god. You really can't punch a person's ignorance in the face.

[There's a beat as she moves into the next position.]

Well, you could punch them in the face, but that wouldn't really help.

[Des disentangles his fingers from the string, a thoughtful, literal tongue-in-cheek expression on his face.] That you can't. Sometimes I wonder if it'd shake something loose, but really it just makes you the bad guy.

Probably feels good for about ten seconds, though.

Oh, I think so. And then it would hurt because me trying to throw a punch is a hilarious endeavor.

Everybody's got their talents and their shortcomings. The hard part is admitting them. Some of us here on this team have a harder time than most.

[Yeeeeeeeah, she's noticed. But she's not going to state that out loud.]

Maybe. But confidence isn't a bad thing in the field either. I'd take overconfident over constantly second guessing yourself.

Not always. But from experience? Overconfidence gets a hell of a lot more people hurt. That was a lesson I learned the hard way... and why nobody sees me deciding to go off book on Marian's orders anymore.

[She nods slowly.]

I guess some habits are hard to break. Not that I'm one to not follow orders, but I also know what it's like to be mainly working alone and looking out for yourself. Having a purpose helps sort through it, though. At least for me.
