The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia. Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed: they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital. Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn. They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.

Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

People still sleep? [he squeezes her hand back, smirking a bit.] God, I thought for sure the looming nightmarepocalypse took the fun out of that.

[She doesn't even try to resist the urge to roll her eyes, but she's grinning all the same, the angst-induced tension breaking.]

It'd be funnier if it weren't an actual possibility.

At least Blade only waltzed into our dreams once. Any more than that and I would've started charging for it.

[he flinches.] Jesus, that was awhile ago, wasn't it?

[Her brows furrow at that.]

You could say that.

[She draws her hand away then, pulling it into her lap.]

A lot of things were set into motion for me that night.

[he blinks steadily as he pulls his own hand into his lap, somehow stricken by the importance of this one event.] Yeah, me too.

He had the audacity to say he could break my curse, if you can believe that.

Maybe he thought he could, though I doubt he would have come through. He seems egotistical enough to believe he's capable of all sorts of things that aren't necessarily true.

Besides, you didn't need his help.

I really didn't. [he chuckles.] The irony of it is how fast it broke after that. In hindsight, it feels like it happened just to spite him.

[the laughter he gets from that joke is... more than a little forced.] That's really a small bonus.

[yeah... anyway. he doesn't know where else to go with that, so he just says, with some frustration.] Goddamn, I hate that guy.

I know. I understand.

[She understands that feeling all too well, and the frustration that comes with it.]

The day will come when we'll deal with him, too, in one way or another.

And on that day, I swear to God, I hope someone makes him as useless to a woman as a Rabbit without batteries. [at least he can try to force a joke into it.]

[The corner of her mouth twitches upward.]

I wouldn't count on it.

Let me dream, Elena.

[She gives him a look.]

I thought you said you were a realist.

Realists are allowed to have dreams.

[He gives her a look right back, though it's a bit sheepish, and he ends it quickly, turning back to stare at the ceiling.] I guess you can't get away with skipping the debrief, huh?

I try to stay away from impossible ones.

[She shakes her head.]

Likely not. I'm not even sure if the others are aware I don't intend to stay in town afterward. I don't know why they'd believe anything's changed, but...

I think we just learned that some people don't see what's right in front of their face. [he runs a hand through his hair.] Not that we didn't know that, but it seems particularly disheartening right now.

[he's got pretty mixed emotions about some things right now.] Can't shake the feeling that I'm the one who's supposed to feel bad about that one.

[He doesn't. But.]

Decker still didn't even see me as more than an idiot bystander until I started shooting him. I learned that lesson a long time ago.

[But his words still seem to effect her, despite her tone.]

That's the last thing you need to feel bad about and you know it.

[he snorts.]

Yeah, I know. I don't, either. [a shrug, as he waves the subject off.] Hopefully, it won't be a long briefing and no one pitches too much of a fuss about you needing to leave.

[She gives him a grin, but it doesn't reach her eyes.]

That will be my dream for the near future.

Tragic, but true. It's all out of love, I know, but... [he shakes his head.] I dunno why it's easy for me to understand and not for anyone else. You're not a baby bird. And if anyone wants to say otherwise after any of that today, I may lose my temper for you.

[Her grin grows a little more genuine at that.]

I'm sure some of it is that they just miss me while I'm gone, at least.

Some. [he laughs and lowers his voice to add, in a teasing voice.] I'm just saying, no one misses me so much they look like I might get kidnapped if I'm out of their sight for too long.

Well, who's going to kidnap a big strong man from his big strong husband. I'm clearly the easier target.

Except for the fact that I can be a big strong man whenever I like, of course.

[Iscariot, apparently. But ahem.]

I mean they'd also have to find you. [He presses a finger to his cheek.] Now I could've sworn there was a tiny girl here just a second ago. Excuse me, random stranger... [he breaks off in a laugh.]

I'm not tiny.

[Rude.]

Besides, apparently that's not the only reason I'm difficult to find.

[Speaking of that seems to unsettle her, though, as she leans back into her seat.]

[he waves it off, laughing at his own joke, though the laughter dies quickly. he glances up, and then slumps in his seat again.]

Yeah. Anything to overcomplicate a situation.
