slovechnia ♔ hey little sister what have you done

♬ White Wedding - Billy Idol
WHO || Failboat, Dimitris Sarandis, Amanda Moulet, invited wedding guests, and more [closed]
WHAT || The Knights head to Slovechnia to interrupt Dimitris' wedding to Dumage's sister
WHERE || Flight from London to Slovechnia; Slovechnia
WHEN || Sometime in February
HOW || Actionspam or prose
The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia. Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed: they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital. Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn. They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.
Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

For Rose it's hard to untangle everything that happened at that particular cornerstone. That wedding would be the last time she'd be happy for a long time. The last day of being the person she thought she was before everything got turned on its head. She'd been with somebody she loved, who loved her in return. Had a best friend she would have done anything for. Had a person in her life who she looked up to. Respected.
For a long time she thought she'd never have any of that again but she thought about Dean. About Alainn. About Wynn. Rose hated Sweets for suggesting that all the good she had in her life, came about because of what had happened after Vi and Luthir's wedding but as painful as it is to admit? He wasn't entirely wrong.]
Painful or not... I think we have to remember those times so we know what to be grateful for now. Why we're fighting. [And for other reasons, but she keeps those to herself.] At least this time around, it feels like we're gaining ground.

Elena and I... [Hesitation as she starts to speak.] We were best friends. We used to talk. A lot... about, everything.
[She looks at him now, hoping he understands the significance of her words. That she's heard about Jade. About her significance to him.]
I think you can be grateful for what you have as a result of the bad stuff and still wish deep down that the bad stuff hadn't happened. Even if you wouldn't change it.
[She would rather not have lost Dimitri, Elena and Luthir the way that she had. But she had Dean, Alainn, Wynn and so much more and she knows, she's better for what happened. Albeit, a little jaded.]

[He looks sympathetically at Rose.] It doesn't always help.
no subject
Nope. It doesn't. [A weak smile that's tinged with sadness, dancing across Rose's lips and she shifts her free hand to cover Des's. A quick squeeze. A quiet moment of understanding without the need for words.]
But hey. At least we're going home. [The silver lining in it always being that they both had something good to go home to. Not everyone here could say that.]

She can talk like an optimist when she wants to but it's clear Rose is already bracing for the next disaster. (Will Save 15).]
Maybe I should take Mark up on that trip to Andres.

Given their looming apocalypse though? She's probably not wrong.]
Plus it would be good to get away. See Alainn, just... I don't know. [Shaking her head.] I mean, it works for you, right?

[he shrugs] When a bad guy has his heart set on you personally, you'll know, so Blade, Crombe? Those guys? I don't worry about them when I'm not dealing with them.

Lets just hope it stays that way. [Her face darkening.] Gotta wonder how much blowback there will be for what happened today... They might not have been happy with Dimitris but we still took out three of their people. [She looks to Des now, trying to keep the worry for him from her features but he's Des and he tends to see right through her. (WS 25).] Just... be careful, alright? Don't drop your guard too much when you go back home and at the first sign of trouble? Crappy weather aside, London does have the benefit of being full of people who will have your back. That husband of yours too.

[it's optimism that's not entirely like him, but he seems to believe it, anyway. he definitely doesn't miss her concern for him (sense motive 31), which seems to blindside him a little.]
I never drop my guard. I've got people who could come after me who aren't part of this little Glee Club. [instinctively, he looks down at his bag where the hilt of his sword is poking out of the top and he glances away abruptly.] Which I guess doesn't help you any. [he gives her a weak smile.] I'll be fine. I'm a survivor. It's the one thing I've been consistently good at my whole life, despite everything I ever did to try and do the opposite. And Zarad... [he laughs.] Well, he's got a few tricks up his sleeve.
[He holds up a hand.] But if anything gets too hot for us to handle, we'll be out of Dodge. Promise.
no subject
His words unsurprisingly, do very little to banish the worry that's stirring behind her eyes. At least not until that promise, when Rose manages a weak yet sincere smile of her own.]
That's all I wanted to hear. [The hand that still covers his, gives it a quick squeeze before she pulls it away, Rose never one to linger too long on emotional moments and she does seem to relax a little, even if there's tension still running through her shoulders. It seems Des isn't the only one around here who doesn't drop his guard.]
Plus if you don't I'll just have to find you and kick your ass. [The widening of her grin at least suggesting she's kidding. Probably. Mostly anyway.]

[he winces.] And I mean that as... inoffensively as it can be.

My plan is to check in with Dean and then count down the minutes until we land. [That at least seeming to make the smile sit easier.] I'll catch you at the debrief though.
[She looks like she's going to leave it there bit her eyes reflect a desire to say more before the words even pass her lips.]
Hey Des? [It takes her a moment, almost like she's considering any number of things but with a twitch of her lips and small shrug of one shoulder, all she comes out with is;] Thanks.
no subject
You're welcome. [a beat] For what?
no subject
Ya know... Listening. Getting it I guess. [Because she didn't have a whole lot of people she felt at ease with, Rose usually one to clam up and refuse to talk about how she was really feeling but with Des it just felt comfortable and it had been a long time since she'd had that. Or rather, since she'd allowed herself to.]
That's all.

He sticks his tongue in his cheek, shoulders rising on an inhale, as if the exhale that follows will contain something heavy and weighted, but all that emerges is his own breath as he tears his eyes away.] I could say the same for you, Rose. I hope you keep getting it. On a good day, I'm not the easiest guy to understand.
[he adjusts the strap on his bag.] But I appreciate you keep trying.

She likes the fact that when she talks to him about something? He finds a way to relate it back to something he's experienced because at least she knows that someone out there actually understands what she's feeling. He doesn't treat her like a kid or like she's fragile. He doesn't try to label her or put her into a box. He can take things the wrong way and get defensive to the point of asinine but he's always been willing to listen. To back off. To admit fault and apologize when it's warranted.
For Rose the confusion doesn't so much stem from his need to return the gratitude but rather the fact that he thinks he's really not that easy to understand.]
I don't have to try Des. [A chuckle on the verge of spilling past her lips.] You're my friend.
no subject
[he sticks his tongue against the back of his teeth and hisses, uncertain.] Just remember that. Please remember that. [he shifts his balance and places a hand on the seat leaning down so that his head is down close to hers and no one can overhear them. unless spike overhears with his fucking vampire hearing, but he's still whispering.] I have a lot of things I don't talk about and I've got reasons I don't talk about them. I think you understand that. So believe me when I say, if they all come out, and you don't particularly like those things, that's understandable.
But I've never lied about my feelings. [he draws back.] That's all.

He's not wrong however, about her understanding that there are just some things a person can't talk about. She's been holding so many secrets in that some days she feels like she's going to burst and while she has Dean to talk to? Sometimes she wishes more than anything that there was one person she didn't feel the need to be brave for. Somebody who she could talk about her rez with. Who might not be afraid of it, or her because of the circumstances. Who wouldn't judge Dean. Who could understand why she spends those extra minutes in front of the mirror every morning, just staring at her reflection as if she's trying to assure herself that she's still the same Rose.
Sometimes she thinks that maybe, that one person could be Des but Dean's fear for her was why she's kept those secrets locked away. His fear had become her own and it was her friends that she worried about.
While Rose might not understand what Des is (or rather, isn't) saying, she can still appreciate some of it and the smile she offers in reply comes easily because there's at least one thing she is sure of.]
Des. [A hint of amusement in her eyes, despite the serious tone of the conversation and she reaches out to try and stop him from pulling away completely.] I highly doubt there's anything you could do that might be so bad that you feel the need to worry about how I might react.
[She'd just shoved a stake through somebodies chest and they were currently having this conversation while she still had his blood all over her.]
You should worry less, Descant. [Very matter of fact now as she leans back in her seat.] It causes wrinkles, don'tcha know?
[Rose trying to assuage any concerns with a little light teasing.]
