Dawn? [ why yes, it's gar here to greet her, of course. she's done what she can to keep in touch with the girl, and read all her reports, only happy to recommend her for promotion when the time came. but it's been some time since they saw each other in person ]

Gar! [ Dawn is just this side of running to close the distance between them. Though she's been promoted, it's hard not to still see the more senior knight as "boss." Of course, Gar is more the boss you can hug, as opposed to the actual boss. (Whether she means Lis'sa or Wynn, she'll never tell.)

(Both. It's both.) ]

[rationalizes]

[ w/e gar will initiate the hugging, ok ] It's been far too long.

[ And Dawn will eagerly return said hugging. ] Way too long. Missions pass by like a total blur, but the minute I set foot here, it's always been forever since I've seen home. And you.

[rationalizes]

I only wish things weren't such a mess for you to come back to.

Gar. Jeanne. [ Dawn is very much making this face. ] You don't need to apologize. For, like, anything. I'm just happy that you're here, you're okay. [ She hesitates a moment before continuing. ] If anything, I'm sorry for not being here.

[rationalizes]

I know you may feel that way, but I'm certain I can't share the sentiment. We were lucky that there weren't more casualties than there were.

[watcherjunior]

[ She nods. ] I just felt so... helpless. Useless. [ Her face drops. ] When that video of Saran--of that asshole popped up and then I couldn't get through to anyone... I couldn't think about anything else until I heard from someone here.

[rationalizes]

That's what he wanted: to leave us feeling that way. He hoped it would break us.

[watcherjunior]

He can keep hoping. It's gonna amount to a fat lot of nothing. Except, y'know, serious justice coming his way.

[rationalizes]

He has to know we'll retaliate.

[watcherjunior]

Of course, he'd be stupid not to. [ And that gets the wheels spinning. ] ...you don't think he'd be laying a trap, do you. I mean, he can't always be expecting us, right?

[rationalizes]

We're banking a lot on the fact that he isn't. But we're prepared, just in case, for the worst.

I can't imagine that Dumage would be walking us into a trap willingly, and she truly seems concerned about her sister, but it's possible that they know that, and they're using it to draw us in.

[watcherjunior]

[ Dawn wants to trust Dumage, she really does. It's just that... well her expression shows that she probably doesn't. (Bluff 13) ] Willingly is probably, like, the keyword there. But... We gotta trust our own people.

Still. Big big guns and all the stealth for that shindig, right?

[rationalizes]

We're sending quite a bit more people than we hopefully need for the operation. Better safe than sorry.

I think we've had enough "sorry" to last for, mmmm, maybe years. And then some.

[rationalizes]

We have, but we've very rarely attempted to go up against any of them directly yet. I can't imagine that things won't get a great deal ... more difficult when we do.

[watcherjunior]

I doubt any of us are going to shy away from the fight, for better or worse. You're right, though. Things are probably gonna get worse before they become any better.

[rationalizes]

Did you hear... about Finnick?

[watcherjunior]

[ Somehow she's heard about the mission to Slovechnia, but not about her fellow knight. ] I--what about Finnick?

[rationalizes]

He's... not well. At the Grammy's last year, we ran afoul of the Mind Master. She --

What? [ Disbelief is the only reasonable response. ]

[rationalizes]

Yes, but... he's convinced that he never left the world he came from. That all of this has been a ... a hallucination of some sort. That he's still trapped in the place he was before this and none of us are real.
