[ time is all caroline wants, time to grow their friendship again like a little love fern, and luckily (or unluckily) she's certainly got time to spare. she assuming that's what elena means so she doesn't think twice about it as a smile lights up her whole face with relief. her sharp exhale is with the same relief, shoulders sagging from the tension melting away. ]

Yeah. Time's definitely on our side. [ a beat. ] Not, however, on this boy I need you to spy on for me to see if he's down for some Southern charm, if you know what I mean.

[ so th segue was... a leap. but whatever! ] I just want to know if he's worth my effort.

[doubletake]

[Elena drags a hand though her hair, sighing at that.]

Look, I know he's a good guy, into women, and probably single. As I said, I'm not around a lot anymore. [A beat.] Just...based on encounters I've had with his brother? I would expect some baggage.

[She's not spying on Sam Winchester for you, Caroline. It isn't happening. Because that would mean being near Dean, too, and she doesn't do that. (also selfcest weirdness? lmao)]

The rest is on you. You seem like you can handle it, though.

Well, I'm dead, so baggage? I can deal with. [ but she accepts elena's insistence that she do it herself. she does stand by the idea that if you want something done well you should do it yourself, she just needed the reminder that she's caroline gd forbes.

and maybe the knowledge that elena doesn't want him because that second best feeling still exists even in an entirely different world. ]

[She seems to be mostly teasing, though.

And no, she most certainly does not want Sam Winchester. You are safe in that respect, gurl.]

And I'm the neurotic one, I see how it is.

[ for a second it looks like she wants to say something, but at the last moment changes her mind and gives elena one of her patented "everything is fine" smiles. ]

I was actually going to get something to eat, so I guess I'll see you around?

[ she doesn't look wholly invested in her own words, but she is trying to keep this light and make sure elena has her space and that she's not smothering her friend who isn't quite her friend yet. it's an invitation to join caroline, but not clear enough that elena would have to actually turn it down.

the ball is in her court, so to speak, as much as caroline hates giving up control. ]

[Sense motive 35 has her seeing right through that nonsense, and she has nothing else to do right now except wait until she ships out tomorrow, so her teeth tug on her bottom lip briefly before she says:]

Actually, I was going to grab some coffee. Mind if I come with you?

[ she smiles in relief. ]

Yeah. I mean, no, I don't mind. Yeah that'd be nice.

[She tilts her head down the hall before she starts walking.]

Come on, then.

[ caroline isn't going to just stand there, so she follows after elena quickly. ]

I meant, like, eat eat. [ in case elena is going to be weirded out by that, she feels the need to clarify. while odd considering, caroline wouldn't put it past her in this world where everything is topsy turvy. ]

[She looks over at her like oh you sweet summer child.]

I had to get used to Spike throwing croutons in his mug and calling it tomato soup a very long time ago. You won't bother me.

[Speaking of:]

Have you met him, by chance?

Yeah, he's the one that told me you ran away because you were pregnant.

[ yup. ]

Yeah, he said you were on "sabbatical" with your aunt in the Midwest. But obviously it's not true because no one can loose pregnancy weight that fast and your boobs would be huge.

I don't have an aunt anywhere, let alone in the Midwest. He was clearly just messing with you.

[Or something.]

You know there's a gym upstairs, right?

Not that kind of training.

[She looks over at Caroline, and in the span of a few moments, Elena goes from looking like her to well...it's like looking into a mirror, really (disguise 58).]

This kind of training.

[Even her voice is a perfect match, and Elena uses the inflection that she believes Caroline might, based on their conversation thus far (bluff 54). Needless to say, it's a very impressive likeness on both counts.]

[ caroline yelps with surprise, eyes widening (will 24), before she points at elena and scolds her in an accusatory tone, ]

Seriously?! You're so lucky I have more self-control than god! [ like, for reals, she's a tiny vampire. she tries not to murder people, but that doesn't mean she can't snap a neck without breaking a sweat or flinching. ]

[Elena almost instantly shifts back once she gets that reaction, the expression on her face just...deadeyes.]

I wouldn't have let you hurt me.

[highlyemotional]

You could have warned me. And taken care of my split ends. God, are they really that bad? [ this is what she's choosing to be upset about. ]

That wouldn't have been nearly as fun. [:)] But I can manage that for you next time.

[There's probably not going to be a next time, though. I mean...she doesn't really want someone sporadically turning into her, right? (unsure)]

[highlyemotional]

[ absently pawing at the ends of her hair, ] Thank you. If you need to borrow all this -- [ she gestures up and down herself with one hand, still tugging at her curls. ] -- just don't do anything gross. Or anyone gross. I have standards.

[ but she's also pretty sure elena won't use her face to do anything bad, she has a lot of faith her in (former) best friend. ]

And remember to floss.

[Elena throws her a smile.]

You don't need to worry about that. They're probably not as high as mine.

[Then she casually shrugs a shoulder.]

I'm pretty confident I'll never need it, anyway.

[highlyemotional]

You should floss anyway. [ she swerves into the kitchen and heads for the fridge, rifling around in it for her dinner. ]

I'll remember just for you.

[She follows her past the fridge toward the coffee brewer, getting a pot going.]

[ caroline unearths a paper bag that the unrolls to pull out a bag of blood, setting it on the counter so she can neatly roll the bag back up and replace it in the fridge. ]
